  Blue Mountain Rhymes, Grave and Gay
by R. Ogilvie Rodger,

Looking Back

T'was a fine autumn day,
When I went with the gay
The volunteer camp for to see;
And little did I
Think 'ere night I would lie
Like a log, Lord, down stricken by Thee

It's nigh twelve years ago
Since they carried me slow
Back home. Lord, still watched o'vr by thee
And thou whispered me then,
"I'm the Saviour of men,
T'will be well if thou trust all to Me."

The future Thou hid
And 'tis well that Thou did.
If I'd seen then what now I can see
Of sheer fright I'd have died;
But on Thee I relied,
And Thou raised up good friends around me.

As good as Thy word,
Thou hast ever been, Lord;
All along Thou hast watch well o'er me.
While I clung to Thee fast,
Here I'm landed at last,
On the brink of Life's turbulent sea.

Weak and worn, but alive,
Ready for my next dive
Out of time into Eternity;
And on yon shining shore,
With Life's trials all o'er,
I'll sing praise everlasting with Thee.
