My Great Grandfather was R. A. Rodger (Robert Alexander). While he was still at school William Quin, who owned The Tapanui Courier, advertised for a boy to assist in the office. With no applicants forthcoming, Quin approached the school and asked who was the best scholar. R. A.'s name was put forward.
He started in the office and progressed to become a partner with Quin, not only in The Tapanui Courier, but in other business ventures. He became an auctioneer and money lender, well-respected in the community, Captain of the Tapanui Rifles; furthermore involved in many clubs and organisations in West Otago. He also wrote for the paper.
Tapanui Station, Brooksdale Estate 1858 - 1910 was reprinted as a book, from articles in The Tapanui Courier. I am sure my Great Grandfather would have no objections in displaying some of his book here.
I hope to find the time and complete it all but for now will show limited pages for family history research. Please contribute further information if you are related to those mentioned.
