Welcome to the Allen County, Ohio Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society Website.

Our Chapter was formed to create and build interest in preserving and collecting genealogical and historical records relating to the early settlers of Allen County. We encourage sharing genealogical information with other Allen County researchers.

Chapter meetings are held at 2:00 PM at the Folsum Auditorium in the Allen County Museum, 650 W. Market St., Lima, Ohio 45801. The public is always welcome and invited to attend.

Membership

Any interested person may become a member upon the payment of annual dues to the Chapter. Chapter dues are $15.00 per individual per year or $18.00 per year for a joint membership.  Joint membership is for family of two (2) persons living at the same address.  Joint membership receives one publication only.  Membership runs from January through December.  If you join during the year, you will receive all the newsletters for the current year.

Benefits of membership are: 4 quarterly issues of Allen County Ancestry, the newsletter of the Allen County Genealogical Society, an annual membership directory, which comes out in March, and 10% discount on ACGS publications and special events, such as workshops.

First Families Of Allen County

Were your ancestors in Allen County before 1840?

Then you may be eligible to become a member of the Allen County First Families.

To qualify for a First Families of Allen County designation, your ancestor must have lived in Allen County by 1840. You also must be a member of the Allen County Genealogy Society to participate in the First Family program. Your application must be submitted by June 1st. Once your ancestors are proven you will be accepted as a First Family member. An induction ceremony is held each July of each year to honor recipients. Honorees receive a First Family pin & certificate.

Volunteers will do look ups in the Elizabeth M. MacDonell Memorial Library in the Allen County Museum.  When making requests, please put “ACGS  Volunteer Look-up” in the subject line of your e-mail. Click Here
