LONGLEY, MELLOTT, MOORE, MOOSE, PITTMAN, RUSH, SMITH posted by Linda Moore Garrett on Tuesday, October 1, 1996

I am researching the MOORE and or MOOSE surnames of Monroe co., but also have records where they lived in Belmont and Noble counties in the mid 1800's. In 1850 Isac and Marcilla MOORE were living in Bealsville, Sunsbury twp. but I find other mention of the MOOSE surname, so I am not certain if the name maybe was misspelled or if they changed the spelling. I believe it is MOORE< as that is my maiden name and I am hunting for my ggrfather Daniel MOORE b. about 1850, son of Isac and Marcilla, I think, he married a Mary LONGLEY and settled in Muskingum CO. Zanesville, OH. He was there until 1912 and is lost from that time on. Also, the Name MELLOTT and PITTMAN seems to be mentioned with this. They have connections to William SMITH of Noble county and to the RUSH name of this area. Believe some to be buried in the Beallsville cem. but I haven't been able to sort it all out. Thanks. Please respond by email.

SHERRY posted by Dave Sherry on Wednesday, October 2, 1996

I was hoping someone might share their knowledge on Irish immigrants/immigration patterns in eastern Ohio in the period after the famine (1848 to early 1850s). My ancestor Arthur SHERRY arrived in Bellaire in 1854, according to land records, and I haven't had any luck tracing backwards from there. (I've focused on 1850 Censuses and the Glazer Irish Immigration books thus far.) Any thoughts would be appreciated! Please respond by email.

DOTY Family of Belmont County, Ohio Seeking ANY information on the early DOTY Family that settled in Belmont County, Ohio in the 1820s. The 1830 Belmont County Census lists four DOTYs as heads of households, John DOTY, Lewis DOTY and two Henry DOTYs All were living in Mead & York Townships. Who was the progenitor of the DOTY family in Belmont County? Where was he born? Who was his wife and children? Who was his parents? The oldest DOTY in the 1850 Belmont County Census id Sarah DOTY (born about 1774 in New Jersey). It would appear that this branch of the DOTY family may possibly have descended from Captain Samuel DOTY (born 1643, Plymouth, Mass.) He was the son of the Pilgrim Edward DOTY and an early settler of Piscataway, New Jersey. Please let me know if you know ANYTHING about ANY of these families. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
