"JAMES WHITE - My Belmont County Roots" by Martha Heskett Vaughn
"Goshen Twp. near Center Cemetery means HOME to me in many ways. Here I was
born in the brick house built by my great great grandfather, James WHITE in
1804. It still stands just off SR 26. My relatives are buried here at
Center and Ebenezer Cemeteries. My early education both secular and
religious came at the Union Ridge School. On Sunday afternoons we gathered
for Sunday School and preaching whenever a preacher from Bethesda could come.
We represented many denominations, but were gathered there in unity - people
- and a dog which belonged to the Enfield WOOD family. he always lay across
the doorway when services were held but never came on school days.
