  1. Charter members; 97-09-01; Sftrail@aol.com
Hi. When I didn't get my original test message to this new OHBUTLER list, I checked the list of members and found 5 already. But since I wasn't included in the lists, I'm trying again.
This list will become whatever the people who use it make it. We can emphasize geneaology if you want, or expand into other areas dealing with Butler County, OH. I've just emailed an invitation to everyone on an old list I had of people with surnames starting with A or B, everyone with "Butler County, OH" listed on their AOL profile, and everyone listed from Okeana, OH on the AOL profile. Oh, and I added the info to the OHGenWeb page for the county, too. If you have other contacts interested in Butler County, please invite them to join us.
Anyone want to introduce themselves? I really appreciate your checking out the list, and hope we can make it into something interesting and useful.
    Thanks.

  2. Butler County; 97-09-02; vrsmith@bsf.net (virginia & doug smith)
My great grandmother, Joanna Amanda Hutchison, graduated from Xenia High School in June of 1862. She started teaching school in Middletown, Butler Co., Ohio in Sept. of 1864. I believe that she attended school in Oxford in the two years between, probably Oxford Female College. Can anyone tell me how/where I might find records to prove it? Also, would there be any kind of lists of teachers in Middletown 1864 until 1870?

  8. Harry J. Long; 97-09-05; tsh@world.std.com (Timothy S Harris)
Hello, Everybody: It's great to see a Butler County list. I've got what would seem to be an easy question. Family tradition has it that my great granduncle, Harry J. Long (b. 1869), was Mayor of Hamilton, Ohio sometime in the 1930's or 1940's. Is this true? I live in provincial Boston, where Ohio is still the uncharted frontier. I can't find any detailed local Hamilton history here. (The Hub of the Universe, indeed). So, if anybody has heard of Harry, his brother Elmer H., (a grocer at 7th and Ludlow) or sister Minnie M. (Drummond) drop me a line. Father - Newton Long, Mother - Martha Adeline Gardner. (I can supply more peripheral details and dates if anyone's interested.) Thanks, Timothy Scott Harris
