ALSTON - ASHTON - ASTON - HAMILTON (Samuel ALSTON & Fanny HAMBLETON-HAMILTON) ca 1800-1830s. From: - Ramona Moore Bowling (Oct 20, 1999)
Can anyone please help sort out the variously spelled surnames of ALSTON-ASHTON-ASTON that appear in misc. Butler Co, OH, records & historical accounts ca 1800-1830s? I've found many references to Thomas & Wallace ALSTON in Butler Co as early as 1803. Can anyone furnish info on this family and descendants? Was there a Samuel ALSTON in this family in the area ca 1810-1815 who served in the War of 1812? Census & other records list a John & a Samuel ASTON in Butler (Ross Twp) & Hamilton counties as early as 1807. Samuel ASTON was a stockholder in the Miami Bridge Co ca 1816-20, & he also owned Lot #32 in Rossville 1809 to 1824, when he & wife Polly sold it. The OH Rosters of the War of 1812 list a Capt. Samuel ASHTON (county unknown) with a Company of men in 1814-15, many of whom were of Butler Co. The Western Spy newspaper accounts of the War in April 1814 refer to Capt Samuel ASTON, not ASHTON. I need to know whether there was a Samuel ALSTON or ASHTON in the area ca 1811 who may have married a Fanny HAMILTON in nearby Clermont Co. Can anyone offer any facts to help sort these men out? I have lots of ASHTON info to share.
