History

Carroll Landmark
The Algonquin Mill is a Carroll County historical landmark. Every year (second weekend in October) the Carroll County Historical Society holds a festival there.  It's a wonderful fall outing.

Carroll Firsts

  • Pekin was the first town founded in Carroll County in 1808.

  • The Quaker Church in Leesville was the first church.

  • First school in Brown Township in 1812.

Records
Records collection started in 1833. Unfortunately not all records were kept from that point. Birth and death records were not kept until 1867 when it became mandatory.

A note on birth records: most of the later births will be found in Stark or Tuscarawas Counties because the closest hospitals are in Canton, Alliance and Dover.
