Though the courtesy of Mrs. Ira Rizor we present some news items from the "Bucyrus Journal" dated Friday, 2 May, 1873:

Mr. D. Ristine of Galion, is in a critical condition, his life is even regarded in serious danger by his friends, the difficulty being diseased lungs resulting from an injury received four years ago by being thrown from a buggy.

On Monday, F.E. Frey, Esq. lady and infant left for Germany. They were attended to the Depot with a large company of friends who greeted them with kind wishes for a pleasant and prosperous trip and a safe return.

On Thursday morning, A. Caldwell, Jr., shipped 17 fine promising young mules east. They created quite a sensation trotting through town without any halters.

On Friday, a son of Mr. Samuel Shook was trying to drive a sow and pigs across a creek, or small run, as the pigs would not take the water and the sow would not go without them, he caught a little pig to throw it across, when the old sow threw him down and bit and tore him very severely. At first it was supposed that the lad was fatally injured, but it is now probable that he will recover.

Obituary taken from a Bucyrus paper of December 1907:

JACOB GREEN Aged Citizen of Liberty Township Passes Peacefully Away

Mr. Jacob Green, son of Mr. Frederick Green and his wife, Regina, first saw the light of day on the 16 of April, 1837, in Liberty township, Crawford county, Ohio, and died on the 15 of December, 1907, at the age of 70 years, 7 months and 22 days. Mr. Green was an exemplary citizen and enjoyed the respect of the community in which he lived. He was born, lived and died on the place owned by his father nearly a century ago. So that he was well known in Liberty township. He was so upright and honest in all his dealing with his fellow man that no apology is necessary in his behalf. He was a man of few words, but could always be depended upon in whatever he said. Physically he was never counted among the strongest, yet as a farmer he was very successful. He was in every way such a citizen with whom we part with great reluctance.

So far as his religious life was concerned, it is likewise a pleasure to state, that he had conformed to all the requirements of the Savior. Born of Christian parents, he became a member of the Christian church in his early infancy through the sacrament of Holy Baptism. The new life thus enkindled in his heart was consciously developed and strengthened through a course of instructions later on, he received at the hands of one of the pioneer missionaries in Crawford County, Rev. John Stauch, who may well count Mr. Green among his faithful children.

On the 12 day of Jan. 1869, Mr. Green was united in marriage with Miss Catharine Shealy. Three daughters and one son were born from this union, all whom are still living. The names of these, according to age are: Elisabeth Sophia, George, Louisa Amanda, and Maria Magdalena. Mr. Green lived to see six grand- children. These together with a bereaved widow, four brothers and many relatives and friends remain to mourn his departure. The burial services were held on Wednesday morning, Dec. 18, 1907, and were conducted by Rev. Theod. H. E. Eich. The German sermon was based on Phil. 1:23 and the English on Ps. 116:l5.

(Submitted by Wm. Marquart)

Some additional facts also submitted by Wm. Marquart:
The daughters of Mr. Green were married as follows: Elizabeth m. Paul Ostermyer; Amanda m. Laurance Haines; and Mary m. Adam Markley. Mr. Green's wife was a daughter of Gottleib and Fredericka (Bauer) Shealy.
