Crestline Roundhouse

(also known as the Pennsylvania Railroad Engine Facility)
October 2002

This building fascinated me as a child in the 1940s. I never could figure out how a huge steam engine could go into this building for repairs and get out again because I never saw a door from the adjoining road. Over the years this grand old lady gradually deteriorated and I began to realize she would not last very long at the rate her bricks were crumbling. One October day in 2002, I snapped these pictures as I passed by from the east to the west.
I hope someday this building might be restored to give us a glimpse into the heyday of the steam engines and what it took to keep them running.
