The Cleveland District Round Table is a discussion group of the leadership of the genealogical societies in the five-county district which includes Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, and Medina. It meets twice a year, Spring and Fall to exchange information on the happenings within their organizations. Some of the groups represented at these meetings, in addition to the Ohio Genealogical Society chapters, include religious, nationality, ethnic, locality, and computer interest groups. New Volunteer Opportunity National Museum of African American History and Culture, Family Search, and the National Archives and Records Administration joined forces to create an online, searchable database of persons whose names appear in the Freedmen’s Bureau records between 1865 and 1872. Speaker will be Karen Lakus, Cultural History Interpreter for the MetroParks. She will discuss what the Western Reserve is, the importance of the Ohio and Erie Canal, and why our ancestors came here. Saturday 6 June 2015, noon to 3:00 pm WRHS Gen Committee, “Seeing the Past around You: Identifying Your Ancestor’s House.” Researching a house is similar to researching a family using documents, but the house itself can be used for clues. Dr. Amanda Epperson shares basics for completing a house history and provides an introduction to American architectural history.
