	May 26, 1924 Lafayette Hays spouse: Phoebe Belcher Hays father: Jack Hays mother: Elizabeth Lawson burial: May 28, 1924 Rothwell, Kentucky Margaret Hayes: Viv, I checked my Hayes records on this.  Lafayette's father John Hayes was the s/o John Hayes, Sr. and Nancy Angel and a brother to Marv's ancestor Nicholas Hayes.  Unfortunately, I have no further info on Lafayette.  This is the family where John Hayes came from NC with Nancy Angel and they were apparently not married.  I think they had 8 children.  John lived with Nancy all this time, and then decided to get married to Ursula Haddix who lived in a different area of the county.  He had families going with both Ursula and Nancy at the same time.  They were even court records in Breathitt County where John and Nancy were in court for adultery.  Anyway, John & Nancy's kids used the name Hayes, and then for some reason, started using the name Angel.  Then they went back to Hayes after some years.  (It took me years to figure this out.  I had looked for the Hayes family in every county in Eastern KY for 1850 and 1860 at the archives by going through reel by reel.  Then I got a book listing the Breathitt births for the 1850's and 1870's and found an "Elsberry Hayes Angel".  So I went back and looked under Angel, and they were in Breathitt Co. the whole time.)     So John Hayes & Margaret Duff are listed in 1860 Breathitt as John ANGEL.  Lafayette "Fayette" was age 10 in 1860.  John Hayes sold land in Breathitt in 1866 and supposedly moved to Wolfe County, but he is not listed in Wolfe or Breathitt in 1870 or 1880 as either Hayes or Angel.     I also checked my Breathitt Marriage Books (1874 to 1959) and there was no marriage listed for William Combs and Phoebe Belcher or for Phoebe to a Brown or to Lafayette Hayes.  I also checked some some marriages from Wolfe Co. from Carole Bays and there was no listing for either marriage.  I don't understand why Lafayette's DC listed his mother as Elizabeth Lawson, though.  Someone gave the wrong info there.	by Vivian Moon 21 October 2008
