location of the Pappas house well, for George Kavouras and
I played in that neighborhood. Computer maps for some
reason will not display house numbers on Logan. If they did,
I could be more exact in locating the 126 address where
your father once lived.)

POLITZ James, Alex, and Nick Politz Nick D. notes: The Politz Brothers Confectionary (Alex and James) had a premier location at 200 E. 3d /1100 Central Ave from 1912 thru 1925. This was the south east corner of Central and Broad that became Gallagers Drug Store. The Politz brothers then moved to 1912 Central Avenue in 1926-27 which is the Delicia location. The Politz brothers' story is a sad one. I believe that James Politz died during the Politz stay at the Delicia (1926-27) which is why Alex Politz sold to the Revelos brothers. Three or four years later, Alex Politz opened a store across from the Middletown Police Station/City Bldg. He was there for two years. Then he must have joined his brothers-in-law (the Lambeses brothers) at the So Different at 1852 Central Ave. Politx Bros.RI (Alex & James) Politz Bros. George
Christy: Elias Constantopoulos owned the grocery at the
corner of Columbia and Broad. I believe he died in the
mid-1930's. His daughter, Georgia, managed the store after
her dad's death because her mother was not proficient in
English. She was a very close friend of my parents and
baptized my brother ,Louis, in 1936. (Louis being the
anglisized version of Elias). Georgia married Dr. Michael
Michaelson and moved to Dayton in the early 40's. I
believe the POULOS you wondered about to be the same
person as it became popular to shorten long Greek names
back then.
If
memory serves me right (and I admit being fuzzy on this) I
think that DK owned the grocery for a short time following
Georgia and before Anna Garofolas bought the store. I
think the city directory supports this. I will never
forget Georgia's mother, Athena, was passionate about
dandelion greens (horta) which she served for lunch and
dinner every day of the growing season. Otherwise, I
enjoyed summer stays at their rural home and veterinary
clinic where I learned a lot about animal care..
