BRIEF ILLNESS PROVES FATAL
Mrs. Bertha Fugate, Excello, Died Monday
Cardiac failure and pernicious anemia causes the death to Mrs. Bertha
Fugate, of Excello, Monday morning. She died at Middletown Hospital
where she was removed Sunday afternoon when she failed to respond to
treatment during an illness of three weeks.
Mrs. Fugate was the wife of James Fugate, who survives with six
daughters, Mrs. Mollie Proffitt, Mrs. Alma Trimble, Miss Sarah Fugate
and Miss Irene Fugate, of Excello, Mrs Ollie Adams, of Holmes, Ky., Mrs.
Eula Proffitt, of Ashland, Ky.; three sons, Cecil and Ohmer of Franklin,
Owen of Excello, and nine grandchildren.
Mrs. Fugate had been a resident of Excello 10 years, coming here from
Clay City, [Powell County], Ky.
The Rev. R. C. Caudill, pastor of First Church of God, will officiate
at the funeral Wednesday at 10 A.M. at the McCoy Funeral Home. Burial
will be in Woodside Cemetery. |

Zelma S. FUGATE, age 96, of Middletown,
Ohio, passed away Friday, December 25, 2009 at 12:00 Midnight at
Atrium Medical Center where she had been a patient for five days.
She was born November 24, 1913 in
Knott County, Kentucky and moved to Springboro, Ohio in
1954, then to Jamestown, Ohio, and for the last five years lived in
Middletown. She was a school teacher for 44 years, teaching at
Knott, Rowan, and Perry Counties in Kentucky and then in Springboro,
Ohio and Jamestown, Ohio. Preceding her in death were her
parents, Nathaniel W., and Drucilla
(Hudson) Simpson; her husband, Woodrow Fugate in 1977; two
brothers, Travis and Ora Simpson; and one sister, Bertie Lee Smith.
She is survived by one brother, Truman (Matilda) Simpson of
Springboro, Ohio; three children, Millie (Clay) Dennis of
Middletown, Ohio, Lionel (Vicki) Fugate of Middletown, Ohio, and
Leila (Donald) Albert of Germantown, Ohio; seven grandchildren,
Jennie Saxena, Jeff (Lea) Dennis, Justin (Susan) Dennis, Jill (Bill)
Quillen, Steve (April) Craft, Kim (Bruce) Murray, and Laura Albert;
11 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. Graveside
services will be Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the
Fugate Cemetery in Vest (Knott County), Kentucky. In lieu of
flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of ones
choice. Services in Kentucky handled by Hindman Funeral Home,
Hindman, Kentucky. Local arrangements by Herr-Riggs Funeral Home,
