Highland County GAR Posts

"There are few counties in the State of equal population which can point with more just pride to the number of volunteers furnished to the Union Army during the Great American Conflict; and while the list we publish of the various G. A. R. Posts of the county have become residents of this State, an equal number of our enlistments are not found here, but are associated with other Posts or are residents of other counties or States. This list does not include those who memory each year we honor on Decoration Day, who upon the Battle field, in camp or on the march or skirmish line, gave their lives—nor many who have since died from their wounds or from sickness, and have gone to their eternal bivouac. Such posts’ record may not come to hand in time for this position, and may be found noticed in connection with the respective towns."
