W. Hoyt, M. D., Resident Physician and Surgeon, Office 39 West Main Street.-- Bringing into requisition those accomplishments which command respectful consideration, we notice among the members of this honorable fraternity, Dr. W. Hoyt, who is a native of Province of Quebec, Canada, and was born in 1839. His literary education was chiefly received in Chautauqua county, New York, after which he engaged in the study of his chosen profession with Dr. A. B. Spinney, then East Saginaw, now of Detroit, Mich., as his preceptor. After a regular course at what is known as Homœpathic Hospital College, Cleveland, Ohio, he graduated from that institution in class of 1867. He first commenced practice with his preceptor for one year, and located in this city the latter part of the same year, where he has enjoyed a liberal practice and taken an active and intelligent in public affairs, especially in the progressive features of medical and surgical science. During the first year of his study, the War of the rebellion elicited his patriotism, and in August, 1862, he entered the Union army, becoming a member of company D, One Hundred and Twelfth regiment, N. Y. V. I. In which he served with credit in the Eastern Army through battle-field, march and bivouac, participating in the thrilling scenes around Petersburg and Richmond to the close of the war, receiving his honorable discharged as lieutenant July, 1865.
