Pension Attorney and Claim Agent, Rooms No. 5 Strauss Building As a result of the wars through which our country has passed, and as year after year caused a higher appreciation of those who abandoned their homes and business, and gave their service—40,000 gave their lives also—to their country, and in a measure swells with gratitude and sympathy the expansive heart of the nation, causing more liberal legislation, many thousands are now, and may hundreds are day by day becoming, entitled to pensions, and thousands of others still have unsettled claims against the United States, which, through proper presentation and intelligent prosecution by an experience agent, may be successfully prosecuted and collected. Holding a prominent and influential position, and enjoying the most favored facilities for the successful prospection of claims, and familiar with the true methods of securing pensions, we refer to Mr. Leadbetter, who has been engaged in his present business here since 1889. The subject of this review is a native of Connecticut, and came to Ohio in 1857. Here he was engaged chiefly in agricultural pursuits up to the breaking out of the War of the Rebellion, when in 1863, he was among the number of those home and friends to face rebel shot and the vicissitudes and dangers of army life, to sustain the Union and our national integrity. He enlisted as a member of company L. Twelfth regiment, O. V. I., in which he served for about fourteen months receiving his honorable discharge in codsequence of having been severely poisoned. A squad of sixteen, which were on a raid, had run out of provisions, and applied at the house of rebels and were given poisoned bread, causing suffering to all, from the effect of which one of the number died. In 1875 Mr. Leadbetter came to this city, and up to the time of engaging in his present business was chiefly engaged as traveling agent, and was on of the charter members of John M. Barrere Post, 205 of this city. Mr. Leadbetter is among our best known citizens, and those who may desire references may be referred to any of our business men. He makes no charge unless claims are successfully prosecuted. It is a fact that many pensioners are entitled to increase, while many claims have been rejected through an injudicious handling, and no claim should be a abandoned until Mr. Leadbetter has been consulted, for the energy and persistence which characterizes his operations, and the close attention he invariable give to each case, are the surest guarantees of success. Mr. Leadbetter is also a dealer in real estate; attends to property rentals and the payment of taxed for non-residents. Page 38 General business review of Highland County, Ohio : for the year 1892-3.
