I.
H. McConnaughey
Sheriff of Highland
County.—There is no position associated with the
administration of law which requires so essentially the elements of
courtesy, combined with firm and mature judgment. No position in which
graver difficulties are always imminent, and courage and judgment
required. Among these officials whose acceptable administration has
been attested by the public, regardless of party, we refer you to Mr.
I. H. McConnaughey, the present sheriff of this county. Who is to the
manor born, or was in early life, reared upon the farm and engaged in
agricultural pursuits. He still owns and operates a fine farm of over
212 acres located in New Market township. In a Republican county he was
elected sheriff in 1883, on the Democratic ticket, and after one term
retired to his farm. Again, he was called upon by his party to stand
for the same office in 1891, and again he was honored by a re-election,
which, in itself is a sufficient indication that his official career
had honored himself and his constituents. He is assisted by his two
sons, Chas. D. and Clement L. McConnaughey, both of whom are well
educated and possess excellent clerical abilities.
