Franklin Eubanks
1894 - 1918 William Franklin Eubanks was born in Dunkinsville, Ohio, on August 7, 1894, and died at Camp Forest, Georgia, on October 12, 1918. His age was 24 years, 2 months and 5 days. He was the son of Cyrus and Alice A. Eubanks, the second of a family of ten children. The greater part of this young man’s life was spent on a farm near Greenfield, Ohio. In November of 1912 he came to Illinois. On December 2, 1916, he was united in marriage with Miss Ada Pearl Walker. They went, soon after , to Wapella, Iowa, where they lived one year and then came back to Illinois and lived here until he was called into service. He had registered in June, 1917 while living in Walpella and responded to the call of his country and entered the service in August 1918. He was suddenly stricken down with pneumonia and succumbed to it. The precious mother of this family died on June 27, 1911. The surviving relatives are his wife, father, five sisters, four brothers and an aged grandmother. The sisters are Mrs. Myre Tracy of Leesville, Ohio; Mrs. Harry Elmore of Chillicothe, Ohio; Delba, Frances, Harriet, Walter, Grover and Ernest who with their father reside in Chillicothe, Ohio. The other brother, Mory, is with the 84th division somewhere in France. William was a friend to all, liked and appreciated by all who knew him, while a large circle of friends and acquaintances are grieved because of his death. Funeral services were conducted in the city chapel on Saturday, October 19th at two o’clock p.m. and buried in city cemetery. Rev. M. F. Rainsberger in charge. William answered the call to colors, To fight as a noble man, Why his time was so short in the service, We never can quite understand. He bowed his head to Old Glory, And believed that it whispered come, But this was the call of the master, God bless our noble son. And when the war is over, And the victor laurels are crowned, The heros will not be forgotten, Who silently sleep in the ground. Headquarters Co. G, 214th Eng. It is with deepest regret that this commander announces to the company the death of Private William Franklin Eubanks, who died of Spanish Influenza at 4:30 p. m. October 12, 1918, at general hospital number fourteen, Ft. Oglethorpe, GA. 2. Private Eubanks entered the Army on July 29, 1918, at Wapello, Iowa. After a brief service in a personelle recruit company he was assigned to Co. F, 214th engineers and has served that organization ever since. 3. In his loss, the company mourns a sterling soldier and a genial friend. Off duty he was a man whom all were glad to know and count themselves among his friends.
