Date posted: Tuesday, April 13, 1999

Seeking information about the origins of the ESSICK family. Jacob Essick and wife, Eliz. Demaree, came to Columbiana Co. in the early 1800's, where they operated a stagecoach inn and store, later known as the Willoughby Tavern, east of Paris. Jacob's father was Adam Essick (Essig) of Adams Co. PA. Adam earlier lived in Northampton Co., PA, and he served in the county militia during the Revolution. Adam Essick died in Adams Co. PA. He was married twice, the second wife being Anna Sophia Pab (Paup). I am interested in finding out where Adam Essick came from (presumably Germany), but when and from where and who his parents were. I have pretty complete information about more recent members of the family. Malinda Essick, Jacob's granddaughter, was my grgrandmother, who married Alpheus Myers. Many members of the Essick family lived around Moultrie, and I recall meeting them at family reunions when I was a child..
