Mary Kay Wisnieski will be the guide. She is the author of Cemeteries of Independence Township. She will point out the graves of pioneers and call attention to unusual tombstones. AUGUST 25 & 26, 2001 The OCPS 2-day CEMETERY PRESERVATION WORKSHOP was a wonderful success! Jim and Minxie Fannin of Fannin-Lehner Preservation Consultants demonstrated the safe correct methods to clean and reset stones and do simple repairs. Our hard-working participants cleaned, reset and repaired 15 stones before the heavy rain concluded our efforts on Sunday afternoon. Reproductions of the Workshop Information Packets are available for $25.00. Please send you name, address and check to the above address. Many thanks to those who have contributed to this workshop! AUGUST 2001 Did you see our display at the Civil War Encampment & Reenactment at Hale Farm & Village in Bath, Ohio on August 12? Katie Karrick (The Cemetery Lady) shared information about OCPS and our mission to help identify and preserve Civil War gravesites with the attendees and participants. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Coming Up in August 2003 We will host the Association for Gravestone Studies Western Regional Conference in Cleveland -- just in time for Ohio's Bicentennial Celebration! Why a "Western Regional Conference" in Ohio? Well, when Ohio became a state in 1803, many early settlers from "back east" thought of Ohio as the wild Western wilderness... Please begin thinking about presentation and workshop topics -- those that focus on the Western Reserve or other specific areas in Ohio would be specially welcomed! JUNE 2001 Did you see our display at the Association for Gravestone Studies' 24th Annual National Conference and Meeting at Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hill Massachusetts on June 21-24, 2001? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ FEBRUARY 2, 2001 An eroding Lake Erie shoreline in Cleveland is bolstered with possibly hundreds of discarded gravestones. We need your help to verify replacements were made: more ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ OCPS in the News! |
