Please read the following before looking for a Probate Court Birth Record in 1887-1889 Volume 8

In looking for names, please check ALL columns on the original record (Example, birth name, father’s column and mother’s column). In doing the indexing for these records second and possible third spellings of a surname have been put in because it was difficult to read and also because the father’s surname in that column might have been spelled differently. The purpose is to get you back to the record.

Sometimes the birth name is actually the mother’s maiden name, so notations were put in for that:

Please note that sometimes the original indexer missed completely the information for the parents column and sometimes they are also out of order.

Notes have been added to this index listing in [brackets]. Additionally, page 45 records 47 records of the sex of the child but no names and page 46 has 15 records the same, all from No. 21 Marion Street. Page 139 has 41 records of sex of child and date but no names and page 140 has another 16 records the same, all from 934 St. Clair Retreat.
