HUGUNER, MAIER, MEIER, MEYER, RODER posted by Bob Wickman on Tuesday, February 10, 1998
Subj: Roder - Maier marriage record Clevland Help Hello:I am searching for the village in Duchy of Wu"rttemberg that Mary (or Marie) Maier was baptised in. I hope her marriage record will show that village. Here is what I know about Mary Maier: Father is Adam MAIER, could be MEYER, MEIER. Mother's maiden name is HUGUNER.I don't know if she did not immigrate with her parents or if her parents died in Germany. The 1900 census shows Mary Maier immigrated in 1860. Perhaps immigated without her parents. Her obituary says came to America about 1870. I will look in Germans to America for 1860 and 1870. Mary Maier's husband John Roder landed at the port of NY in June 1867 from Switzerland per INTENT paper signed in Door Co, WI in Nov 1876 The 1900 census said they were married for 35 years, making marriage before they met nonsense;, Johann Roder immigrated in 1867, so maybe they were married shortly there after. Or maybe it was a10 year mistake and should have been 25 years. They were Lutheran. Probably Reformed Lutheran; which since about 1970 could be United Church of Christ. Are there civil records of marriages in 1870 Cleveland? Is there an index for the 1870 Ohio census.?Are there some Ohio census for other years between 1860 and 1877?Do they have an index? The RODER name should be uncommon. I would like to find RODER first. Next; to locate churches near his address and to find MAIER, MEIER, MEYER in that area.Mary's obituary said that she resided in Cleveland, Ohio before coming to Door Co. WI. I appreciate your help. One of the witnesses to the wedding was a Mary HANLON, perhaps his sister. Edward HANLON died in April, 1916 with funeral services at Holy Name Church. I don't know his father's name, but his mother's name was Elizabeth CAHILL. She must have been remarried as in 1916 her name was Elizabeth BUTTLER. Any information would be very much apprecated. Thanks.
