HAMM, PRICE posted by Walter Hamm on Wednesday, July 14, 1999
Hi!, I am looking for any available information about my grandparents, George HAMM and Lizzie PRICE. Both are believed to have been born in Bedford, PA, but moved to Cleveland, Ohio where they were married February 7, 1877. They were known to have two children . . . George b.1879, and Danford b.1893. Both grandmother Lizzie and uncle George died in July 1924, and are interred at Evergreen Cemetery, Concord, Lake County, Ohio. It is not known where grandfather was at the time of their deaths, but he did not live with Lizzie and son George in Painesville, Ohio when they died. Four years later, he also died and was buried in Highland Park Cemetery, Warrensville, Ohio. There is a second Lizzie HAMM also buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Lake County, who died of Typhoid Fever March 12, 1906. She was most probably a cousin to my father (Danford) and uncle George. If there are any Hamms related to George and Lizzie still living in Ohio, I would like very much to hear from them. Sincerely, Walt Hamm

HUGO posted by Jan Nearing on Friday, July 23, 1999
I am searching for my ggg-grandmother, Catherine Burgenoirs Hugo. She was born in the French province of Lorraine sometime around 1800 (purely a guess, though, since I've only had her name for a few weeks...I've had her husband's name for 2 years, but to no avail since I've summized he must have died in the 1840s, leaving her with a slew of kids that she brought to the US. According to my gg-grandfather's biography in 1883, they had settled in Detroit...but either they didn't stay there long or they moved in with someone else and I'd have to search every single residence to find her.) I found just this listing on the Ancestry World Tree for a Catherine Hugo: Year Surname Given Name County State Page Township Record Type Database ID# 1870 HUGO CATHERINE Cuyahoga OH 418 10 W. Cleveland Federal Population Schedule OH 1870 Federal Census Index OH52521429 Having spent no more than 2 glorious days in my whole life in Ohio, I'm not sure what any of this means. What town would she have lived in? Are there any indices for 1880 or any of the 1875/1885 state censuses available? (I confess Chicago is not the mecca for info on Ohio...even the massive collections of the Newberry Library stop short of these dates.) Is there any additional information that might be available on this area (land records, etc)? Where would I try to find a death cert on her if I'm not sure when she died? I know she was a devout Roman Catholic, so could there be any Catholic churces in that area that date back that far and still have records? I really appreciate any insight you can shed. If there's anyone you know of who might be willing to do a little legwork, please let me know. Thanks so much, Jan Nearing Chicago
