fdmk@meckcom.net, Aug. 12, 2001 - TUTTLE, DEITRICH

I am trying to locate any record of my Gt Grandmother, ELLEN TUTTLE DEITRICH, wife of LEVI DEITRICH. The last record I can find of her is in the 1880 census of Defiance County, Richland Twp, in the city of Independence. I have found my Gt Grandfather LEVI DEITRICH through his civil war pension records and he died in Clayton, Mi, Lenawee County, Dover Twp, and is buried in the So. Dover Cemetary there. His death cert says "widowed" witnessed by a son VERNAL DEITRICH, and his date of death is Dec 21, 1915..I checked with the Courthouse in Adrian, Mi and was told they have no record of a death for ELLEN TUTTLE DEITRICH. I'm hoping that someone can find a record of her in the census at Ohio for 1900 or 1910 since I understand the 1890 census was destroyed.

Charlene Bauer, cbauer@accnorwalk.com, Aug. 15, 2001 - CATON, DEVEAUX, HALE, DANGLER, CAVANAUGH (KAVANAGH), NOON, WELCH, HART

Searching for members of the above named families. Julia Caton, was the daughter of Bryan and Mary Kavanagh, who arrived in the US from Ireland in 1858. The KAVANAGH daughters were all born in Ireland, probably in County Kilkenny, near New Ross in County Wexford. Also searching for the maiden name of Mary KAVANAGH, possibly HART. Originally settled in Franklin County, Ohio and moving to Putnam County. Julia had sister, Mary, who married Patrick NOON, Catherine, who married James WELCH. Julia and Richard CATON, moved to Defiance in early 1900's. NOON'S and WELCH's remained in Putnam County from what we know. The Welch's died early and their children resided with the Kavanagh grandparents. Mr. Kavanagh purchased farms for each of his daughter's and sons-in-law in Putnam County, Liberty Twp.

Lori N. Davies, lorindavies@home.com, Aug. 12, 2001 - MOSHER, MEEK, WALDEN, NEIDHARDT, YACKEE

I am looking for a possible connection to my husband's Moshers that were in Wood County in 1910 and then in Defiance County in 1920. Lucy Mosher was living with sons John (13 yo) and Venson C (10 yo) in 1910, however by 1920 both sons were living in Defiance County and both married. John married Edith WALDEN, and Vincent (Venson) married Hazel MEEK. Hazel and her family lived in Williams County in 1910, so the boys may have come to Defiance by way of Williams Co., but they did live close to the Neidhardt family and Edward Yackee, so I am hoping that Nellie was related to those Moshers. I know very little else at this point. Lucy's husband may have been Wesley Mosher.

Walter D. SCOTT, P38g@aol.com, Aug. 22, 2001 - SCOTT, DILLWORTH

My SCOTT and DILLWORTH line has a connection to HICKSVILLE from the time frame of 1850 until 1912 when Grandmother Charlotte (Lottie) moved the family, by B&O Railroad to Oregon in the Lane County area. Decedents still live in that area. Grandfather Jesse Ellsworth SCOTT died 18th Dec 1907, Dec in Hicksville. He is buried in Hicksville as are the DILLWORTH's. They were owners of drygoods stores there and Jesse was an original member of the first Saving & Loan establishment in Hicksville. My Father, Leo Emerson SCOTT, was born July 18th 1892 north of Hicksville, but no birth certificate was recorded, he was a member if The Hart Band from Hicksville which was nationally known and joined The Army Band at Jefferson Barracks at 17 after his father Jesse died. If others are doing any research on this line I would be glad to network with them.

I am researching Henry DIEHL (b ca 1847, Hesse Darmstadt) who settled in Oshkosh, Winnebago Co, WI in 1866. He had siblings (sex & names unknown) who settled " out east (of WI)". His parents' names were listed as "Henry & Martha DIEHL" on Henry's 1874 MC. Henry (Sr) was said to have worked/ owned a vineyard in Hesse-Darmstadt. Did Henry's siblings settle in or near Defiance Co.? Possibly connected with the DIEHL Brewery?

Diane Bennett, dbennett619@hotmail.com, Sept. 10, 2001 -   ETCHEN, WAGNER

I am searching the family of John Wagner who was born circa 1836 in Germany. He first appears in the 1860 Delaware Twp. Census, occupation farmer with wife Margaret, same age, maiden name, Etchen, also born in Germany with daughter, Mary age 3 born in Ohio. They owned property at the Delaware Bend. Other children later included John Peter Wagner born 1860, Mary Jane born 1862, wm. 1866, Henry N. 1869, and Maggie E. 1876.

Margaret was a widow in the 1900 Delaware Twp. Census, so John must have died between 1880 and 1900. The Defiance Co. Record Ctr. cannot locate a death record for John.

Margaret was buried at Riverside Cemetery on Jan 20, 1917.  Perhaps I can find John buried with Margaret there.
