 All meetings are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays at the Delaware County Historical Society Annex, 

157 East William St., Delaware, unless otherwise noted.  If the Delaware City schools are canceled, due to inclement weather, the meetings below will be canceled and/or rescheduled. 

 

 


January 6, Tuesday, "Share Night" Bring a family story or a family keepsake to share with attendees.

February 3, 2009, Tuesday,  Paul Clay will give a slide presentation on the Civil War Camp Chase in Columbus and its Delaware County       connection. 

March 3, 2009,  Tuesday, Vicki Tieche will present "The Spirit of '76 and Harlem Township", focusing primarily on the nine Revolutionary veterans who settled in Harlem area. Hand-outs will be provided. 

April 7, 2009, Tuesday,  Jean Nudd, Archivist for the NARA Northeast Region, will talk on "Using Pre-1850 Census to find family relationships." She will use her Goodman family in this area as an example.

May 2, 2009,  Saturday,  Pioneer Banquet, Willow Brook Christian Village's Terrace Room, 100 Willow Brook Way S, Delaware, OH. Social hour 5:30 p.m. Dinner 6:00 p.m. Reservations required.

June 2, 2009,  Tuesday, Annual Church History & Pot Luck Dinner, East Side Mission Interdenominational Church, 32 Joy Ave, Delaware, OH. 6:00 p.m

September 1, 2009, “Characterization of General Rosecrans” Big Walnut graduate Tom Paul portrays the local Kingston Township Gen. William Starke Rosecrans. Paul has studied the biographies of Rosecrans and obtained a complete authentic uniform.

October 6, 2009, “Cemetery Ups and Downs” Larry and Ginny Buell, with Judy Shumway, will share the ins and outs of a few local cemeteries. Buell followed his dad as sexton at Cheshire Cemetery where he has served since the mid-‘60’s. Larry now holds the same position in Berkshire and Galena. He was at Cheshire during its relocation and will share his insight into that process, along with information about some notable burials. Shumway, as Berlin Twp. Clerk, was instrumental in making available computerized info about each plot and burial record.

November 10, 2009,  “Joint Meeting of DCGS & DCHS” Election of officers. Presidents of both societies will speak. Let your voice be heard as the two societies vote for their new officers and board members. (note: changed to 2nd Tuesday)

December 8, 2009, “The Myers Inn” Polly Horn, President of the Big Walnut Area Historical Society, will give a Power Point presentation about the restoration of the historic stagecoach inn located in Sunbury. (note: changed to 2nd Tuesday)

March 2, 2009, “Treasures of the DCGS, a Celebration of 25 Years” Help us celebrate our anniversary while you learn about some of the many wonderful resources in the Research Library.
