HOLGATE WORKER DIES IN SHACK FIRE

Ebb MARIHUGH’S Charred Body Dragged from Flaming Shanty

Native of Defiance. Lived Alone on Village Outskirts

Holgate, May 28—His body badly charred, Ebb MARIHUGH, 57, Holgate bachelor WPA worker, had burned to death when dragged from his flaming shanty on the outskirts of Holgate early today.

The victim, known in Holgate as Pud NOLAN, was said to be a native of Defiance, his father being the late Robert MARIHUGH and Henry MARIHUGH of Defiance being a cousin. His only known near relatives are a half sister, Mrs. Bertha AMES, Toledo and a half brother Art NOLAN, Elyria.

The body was removed immediately to the Pleasant township cemetery to await word from relatives as to disposition of the remains. MARIHUGH, a wanderer who had worked in beet fields in this vicinity on numerous occasions had made his home in Holgate for the past three years. He left the Holgate business district about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. The fire , discovered shortly after midnight, had gained great headway before the Holgate fire department was called. Cause of the blaze could not be determined.
