Dies of Apoplexy Lewis C. Roehrig Falls Dead at Home of Daughter Here Today

Lewis C. Roehrig, president of the Farmers Grain Company, dropped dead, stricken with apoplexy, shortly before 5 am today at the home of his daughter Mrs Estella Gibler. He was 75 years 5 months and 1 day old. Although in ill health for the last year, Mr Roehrig had not been bedfast andthis morning had risen early, before the remainder of the family, as was his suctom. He fell dead in a downstairs living room. Mr. Roehrig is well known throughout this sectin as an elevator operator having at one time owned three elevators here and a feed barn. He farmed earlier in life, dealt in ship timber and managed a thresher. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 930 am from the daughter's home and 10 am from St. John's Reformed church, with Rev H.B. Robrock officiating. Burial will be in Brunersburg cemetery. Mr Roehrigh was the father of 14 children 12 of whom survive him, Mrs Susan Slough and Henry F Roehrig having died. The children living are John F Defiance F Tpwnship, Mrs Emma Bruner Delaware Tpwnship, Mrs Mary Lang Noble township, Mrs Lula Speiser   Delaware Township; Albert W Hamler, Mrs Ada Leaders, Nicholas street, William M., Hopkins street, James J., Hopkins street, Amos F., Brooksville, Lyman N., Malinta, Elmer C., Preston Avenue, and Mrs. Estella (George) Gibler, Gover street. A Sister Dorothy Roehrigh of Tecumsch, Mich. also survives. His wife preceded him in death six years ago dying on the Noble twonship homestead on Jan 13, 1917. Mr. Roehrig was born on Feb 8, 1848 in Massillon into a family of five children. His parents were Adam and Eva Elizabeth (Fix) Roehrig. They later settered in this section. He was married to Miss Ella Kuszmaul, daughter of Martin and Susannah (Tate) Kuszmaul in Delaware township on Nov 7, 1869. Soon after marriage he settled in Noble township. It was while residing there that he bought ship timber and engaged in threshing besides farming. When his wife died six years ago he came to live with his daughter in Defiance.

Defiance Crescent Jan 5 1917 Large Family survives Mother

Mrs Ella Roehrigh wife of Lewis C. Roehrig died Saturday evening at 5 o'clock at the age of 65 at her home in Noble Township Funeral services will be held on Wednesday morning at 930 from the house and at 1000 o'clock from the Brunersburg M.E. church. Burial will be made in the Brunersburg cemetery. Rev Charles Peoples will have charge of the funeral service.The deceased was the daughter of Martin Kuszmaul formerly a resident of this city. A hasband and six sons and seven daughters survive. In addition there are 49 granchildren and 9 great grandchildren living.
