Tippecanoe Club of Hardin Co. 1840-1888

ippecanoe Club of Hardin Co.

This club was organized at Kenton, August 4, 1888, and was composed of only veteran voters who voted in the presidential election of 1840. The object of the club was to enroll all voters then in the county who intend to vote for Harrison and Morton in 1888. Harvey Buckmister, aged 88, was President, and Dr. A.W. Munson, aged 69, was Secretary.
Their motto was: "Encouragement to American genius and enterprise, protection for American labor and American interests, perfect feeedom for each American citizen, high or low, rich or poor, white or colored, native born or adopted, to cast one ballot for the candidate of his choice at each election and to have the vote counted as cast; liberal pensions for the defenders of the Republic and Governmental care of their widows and orphans."

For the promotion and maintenace of those principles each member pledged his hearty co-operation. The club numbered one hundred and twenty-two voters, thirty-six of whom were represented in the photograph above.
