Sylvian Quartette

From left to right in the brochure of the Sylvian Quartette and Entertainers group are Ross M. Fernbaugh, Will W. Burk, H. Dale Shields, and David L. Cook; all from Forest. The Sylvians were groups of men who traveled throughout the state singing around the turn of the century. This brochure is c1914. Referenced on the What People Say page are:Prof. A.D. Ladd, Supt. Spanish War Veterans

The individual standing on the right in the Shields Family photograph of the three Spanish American War veterans has been identified as H. Dale Shields. The woman is probably his wife and their two children. The other photograph, Spanish War veterans, is of H. Dale Shields, George Forney (seated), and Fred Hinebaugh.

Forest Athletics (c1913)

H. Dale was the manager of the Forest Athletic Club in 1913. On the reverse of the photograph is written, "I was born March 22, 1878. 1913 Baseball Team. Mark Fishburn and H. Dale Shields, sitting 3rd and 4th from left respectively. Others in the photograph are; Young, Grover, McDaniel, Ossie Packer, Cecil Cook, Halley Shields, Morris Meyer, Roy Curtin, Hank Simpson, Dale Murray, Charlie Kouble, and Harry Beagle.

Below is a photograph of Joe Shields with family members in some park. Joe is on the left in the photograph. There are several baseball fields in Forest. There is also one park, "Gormley," located on S. Mary Street. Nothing in the photograph resembles Gormley or any ball field in the village.
