Grand Army of the Republic

. A. R.

To the right are members of the Hardin Co. Battalion of the Grand Army of the Republic which met in Forest the week of September 12, 1909. On Thursday of that week they assembled for the photograph, possibly in Gormley park. There is no additional information known.

In "Preparing ..." are veterans who met in Forest on Friday, April 26, 1918 in preparation for Memorial day services on Sunday. Those in the photograph (right to left) are John Dean, John Bendetti (carrying the flag), Alfred Crum, Bill Moore, Brinker Berlien, John McMillen, Adolph Phillips, Gabe Spitzer, William Naus, ? Miller, __, Tom Pisel, Jess Harper, Charles Alwin, Rev. ? Garrison, and Darrel Dubbs. Some of the the same individuals are probably in the right photograph though we do not know the date it was taken. The individual sixth from the left in that photograph appears to be Capt. Bill Moore. The photograph may have been taken around the same time, but the date is known.
