Amanda Gilpin

Amanda E. (Naus) Gilpin was born north of Forest in 1854. Supposedly, the denseness of the forest around her place of birth gave rise to calling the town Forest. Her parents were Jacob & Nancy Naus who came to Forest from Bedford, PA. She married John A. Gilpin on September 25, 1873. He died at 78 years old July 1, 1927. The Gilpin home was on the Hardin-Hancock county line.
