Eliza M. Burdett was born near Patterson, Ohio in September, 1874. She was the daughter of John and Mary (Haines) Burdett.

Eliza

She had one older sister, Dorah L. Burdett, and one younger brother, William A. Burdett. Dorah may have married an Alexander McKelvey, but this has not been verified. Their father was from New York, their mother, Pennsylvania. The family lived in Jackson Twp. outside Patterson. Eliza married Charles E. Owings May 24, 1896. He was born in Ohio in January, 1872. Charles & Eliza had one child which died before June, 1900. It is believed that they had no other children. In 1900 they lived in Pleasant Twp., Hardin Co., where they farmed. In 1910 they had moved to McDonald Twp. where they also farmed. Sometime between 1920-1930 they were farming in Concord Twp., Highland Co. Charles died in Highland Co., September 17, 19411, Eliza in San Antonio Hospital, Kenton, Ohio June 21, 1960. She was buried at Patterson, Ohio.

William & Cora
William

Willaim A. Burdett was born in Ohio 1878. He married Cora B. Tracy, daughter of Abner L. Tracy and Marie Creider, August 4, 1904.

He was the Superintendent of Township schools. Cora B. Tracy was born in Hebron, Thayer Co., Nebraska February 3, 1880. She appeared on the population schedule of May 18, 1910 in Jackson Twp. under the name of Cora B. She died December 12, 1981 in Kenton at age 101 and was buried with William Burdett in Patterson cemetery. She had worked as a teacher for 36 years, 31 of them for Forest. They appeared on the population schedule of May 18, 1910 in Jackson Twp. He died in 1914.

Columbiad Cannon

John S. Burdett was born in New York on March 19, 1838. He was a farmer who lived and worked in Jackson Twp. for 59 years prior to his death.

He died on October 25, 1926 in Jackson Twp., Ohio at the age of 88. He was buried at Patterson, Ohio. He appeared on the population schedule of May 5, 1910 in the Village of Forest, Hardin Co.,Ohio. John Burdett was one of the individuals who helped install this "Columbiad" cannon in 1906 along with: Henry Schott, Robert Dunham, Jac Cramer, Levy Young, Bud Robinson, W.M. George, Nick Haffer, John Guyer, and Alonzo Yant.

The park has two such cannons; both, Columbiads, and both purchased from the U.S. Government in 1906. John is not in the photograph taken of the cannon above, but the individuals present are: Dow C. DeWitte, Tott Marie (Trissler) DeWitte, Edith Naomi (Lehman) Stephan, John T. DeWitte, Robert Paris Lehman, and Emmett Glenn Lehman.

The photograph was taken in Gormley Park around 1916. John died at 6 a.m., October 25, 1926, in Jackson Twp. due to arterio-sclerosis. He had chr. prostatitis for several years and hypostatic pneumonia for 4 days. He was 88 at the time and was buried October 28, 1926, in Patterson Cemetery in Patterson.

Simon Arthur Burdett was born Hardin Co. Co., Ohio December 24, 1882. He married Nellie Rose Young, daughter of James F. Young and Adeline Abigail Harris, on November 18, 1903 in Hardin Co. He and his wife appeared on the population schedule of May 10, 1910 in Jackson Twp., Hardin, Ohio. He and Nellie appeared on the population schedule of January 13, 1920 in Jackson Township. Simon died at 9:15 p.m., Sunday, October 23, 1955 in Patterson. He was 72. He was buried October 26, 1955 in Hueston Cemetery.

Nellie (Young) Burdett

Nellie Rose (Young) Burdett was born in Jackson Twp., Hardin Co., Ohio July 1, 1884. She appeared as the 3rd child, a daughter, on the population schedule of June 14, 1900 in the home of James F. Young of Forest Village. Nellie married Simon Arthur Burdett, the son of Simon Burdette and Marie Louise Oswald on November 18, 1903 in Hardin Co. She appeared on the population schedule of May 10, 1910 in Jackson Twp. under the name of Nellie Rose.

Nellie died January 3, 1939 in Patterson because of tuberculosis. She was 54 when she died.

Ivan Burdett

Ivan L. Burdett was born February 16, 1905. He appeared asthe 1st child, a son, on the population schedule of May 10, 1910 in the home of Simon Arthur Burdett, in Jackson Twp. He appeared as the1st child, a son, on the population schedule of January 13, 1920 again in the home of Simon Arthur Burdett, in Jackson Township.

Ivan Burdett married Alta M. (Musgrave) Pursell, daughter of Ambrose Musgrave and Retta Guisinger, June 12, 1929. They lived in Forest. In October, 1955, Ivan lived in Medway, Clarke Co., Ohio. He was an amateur radio operator and an electrician. He became a member of the First Church of God. He worked for the Brooklyn Field Company in Mobile, Mobile Co., Alabama. He also worked at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Dayton, Darke Co., Ohio. He died at 6:05 p.m. July 10, 1989 in Bellefontaine, Logan Co.,Ohio in the Mary Rutan Hospital. He was 84 and was buried on July14, 1989 in Hueston cemetery at Forest.

Helen Burdett

Helen Burdett was born in Forest, Ohio on October 16, 1919. She worked for the Budd Company in Carey, Ohio between 1938 and 1995. She was a member of the United Auto Workers between 1938 and 1995.

Dick & Alice Burdett

She married William D. Peirce December 25, 1938. She lived in Carey, Ohio. At one time she also lived in Patterson. Helen was a member of the United Methodist church in Patterson. And she was a member of the Forest-Jackson Fire Department Auxillary in Forest.

She died at age 75 in Bucyrus Community Hospital, Bucyrus, Ohio June 2, 1995. She was buried in Hueston Cemetery at Forest.

Alice Burdett was born probably in Forest, Ohio on September 18, 1911. She is seen in this photograph with her brother, Richard Dick Burdett. She died of tuberculosis at age 21 in Ohio on March 7, 1933. She was buried in Hueston Cemetery at Forest, Ohio.
