Len Crum Advertising Card2

The photograph is circa 1880. It was probably an advertising card for Len Crum’s business, though he operated a bakery and restaurant and a spinning wheel doesn't seem to be the marketing apparel for selling many bakery or food items.

Dickelman Mfg. Co. fire, July 20, 1927, Wednesday, . . .

. . . was the scene of one of Forest’s worst fires. A car on an east bound freight jumped the track just west of the Big Four crossing and two cars of Benzol exploded in front of the Dickelman office building and it and the Union Station and twenty-one cars were burned. Fred Wright donned his gas mask and saved the Lindsay elevator and probably more of the town. The Forest Fire Department under Chief Wentz and the fire departments from Kenton, Upper Sandusky, Dunkirk and Mt. Blanchard fought the blaze for hours. The lake in the park was an unfailing source of water. Roy Snider’s and Len Crum’s Restaurants and some ladies furnished the firemen with coffee. Leonard Harmon was hurt by falling brick. Four cars of poultry feed, two cars of Benzol, one car of shingles, one car of corn, one car of staves, one car of curled hair, one car of soap stock were burned. Loss was estimated at $150,000.1

Foster Crum and the Boys5

The photograph on the right is of ten young men. There is no date but it is assumed to be c1915, it may be later. On the reverse is a post-it with, Don't know who or what this is. Fifth from left sure looks like Foster Crum. KEEP.

Foster Crum was listed on the 1910 census living in Jackson Twp., Hardin Co., Ohio. He was the son of Leonard D. and Carrie Crum. He was 9 at the time of the census.

So, if this is a photograph of Foster, then this would be c1915-16. His father was the proprietor of the Crum Bake Shop and Restarurant. They lived in Forest next door to Harry W. & Mary Lehman.
