Big Four Wreck

The wreck of the Detroit-Cincinnati south bound flyer of the Big Four railroad occurred on June 18, 1925 near Grant. Killed in the wreck were Clarence C. Woodward, a news dealer of Toledo, and John James, of Detroit. Clarence was 36 at the time. He was buried in Toledo on June 20, 1925. John was 25 years old and an auto mechanic by trade. He was born on October 6, 1899 in South Carolina. His mother was Alice, his father unknown. He was buried in South Carolina on June 21, 1925.

Tramps were considered to have started the fire which burned a railroad car at Grant in February, 1921. John Murry was a track foreman for the Big Four railroad. The tramps were caught and locked up in the Kenton jail.

John Murray (b. 1865, Switzerland) immigrated to the Unites States in 1882 and became a naturalized citizen in 1885. He was married to Florence E. (b. 1860, IN) and had a daughter, Opal L. Murray (b. 1904, OH). They lived in Forest.
