Lydia Jane Stevens was the oldest of a family of eight children born to Johnithan and Susan Stevens, being born October 11, 1837 at Fredricktown, Morrow County, Ohio. She departed this earthly life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Flora Briggs, at Forest, aged 92 years, 4 months, and 27 days.
On August 28, 1856 she was united in marriage with Simon Ropp of near Forest, who died February 28, 1907. to this union was born six children, 3 of whom are living, Mrs. Flora Briggs, of Forest, Albert Ropp, and Mrs. Mary Krout of near Forest. She grew to young womanhood in Morrow County and since her marriage has been resident of Hardin County where she has spent all of her married life.
In her early years she became a member of the Mt. Olivet church of near Forest and later transferred her membership to the M.P. Church of this city, where she was ever faithful until ill health prevented.
She saw Forest grow from a few homes in the woods to what it is today, and now has ended a long and useful life of labor and love for her home and family.
Beside the three children, she leaves one half-brother, Alexander Stevens, of Marshall, Mich., eleven grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great- grandchild. Many friends and neighbors will regret her passing.
