... LeRoy Latham, Hardin-co treasurer, sent in calls for aid to the Kenton and Forest fire department and left a notice with the Forest telephone operator to call K.O. Ickes, who was in Kenton.1

The General Store of K.O. Ickes just north of the Village was completely destroyed by a fire descovered by, Mrs. Albert Opp who lived behind the store. Karl Otto Ickes (b. 26 May 1885, Hardin Co., OH), with his wife, Elizabeth Mae Ickes, ran the general store in Patterson until the fire.
