This is the first baseball team for Wharton. The photograph was probably taken sometime around 1890. BACK: Charles Stoutt (pitcher), Will Gottier (1st base), Roy Wickiser (catcher), A.E. Baker (field), & Rosco Ward (field). FRONT: Harrison Baker (field), W.B. Nichols (3rd base), Charles Reynolds (shortstop), and H.P. Brasheres (2nd base).

This is the Wharton team as they looked on August 29, 1907. REAR: unk., unk., Cecil Wickiser (P), Z.G. Murry (1B), & an unk. MIDDLE: Paul Bell (?), Bert Howard (CF), Willis Duffield (2B), & Vergil Ward (3B). FRONT: C.P. Ward (SS), unk (Batboy), & Nelson Wickiser (LF). Cecil Wickiser was married to Nyille Plott. They had a child, Cuma Lavain Wickiser, who died of appendicitis in August, 1913 at the age of 11. Nelson Wickiser was born 30 Dec 1879 in Richland township, Wyandot county, and was marrried to Emma (Passet) Wickiser. Nelson’s father and mother were John Wickiser and Ellen Ward, both born in Ohio. Nelson died in Wharton on January 10, 1946.

  Because he had the grip and did not feel good, Ira Smith of near Wharton, O., made an unsuccessful attempt at suicide.1

irgil Seafoss, 1921.

Virgil Seafoss (b. 13 May 1893, d. Jan 1982, Hancock Co., OH) was operated on at the hospital in Kenton in September, 1921.

ueberger, 1921.

The Hueberger family held a reunion at "Grandmother Hueberger’s" home during the year. Fourty-seven people attended the big dinner at noon. For dessert they were served ice cream and watermelon.


.C. Hueberger, 1928.

W.C. Hueberger was killed as a result of an automobile accident with a Big Four train near Kenton.1

.S. Ream, 1928.

Rev. C.S. Ream was the pastor of the U.B. Church in Wharton after his resignation as pastor of the U.B. church in Delphos.2
