Researcher: George F. Bareis

Date posted: Saturday, February 22, 1997

HARRISON, Grace--In a book written by my Great Uncle, George F. BAREIS, on the history of Madison township, published in 1902, it is stated that a "Grasey HARRISON" is buried in the Vandemark cemetery. This individual died in 1825 at the age of 37. I believe that it is possible that this is Grace HARRISON, first wife of Abraham, who had come to this area from Rockingham Co., VA. They were married there in 1809. In the same book, an Abraham HARRISON is identified as a resident of Madison township, as making a bid on the digging of the Ohio & Erie canal where it crossed his property, and as losing everything he had in 1836 when a business venture, a slaughterhouse in Canal Winchester, failed. Would very like to know if anyone can point me to a source that could prove or disprove my theory that the Grasey HARRISON is the Grace HARRISON from Rockingham Co.. If I could prove the connection between the Grasey in the grave and Abraham it would solve a number of questions? Anyone have any ideas?
