Hi, I'm trying to get some information on my grandfather (after we work on him than I'll move on to my mother who died 34 years ago - I was 14). About the only thing that I know for a fact about my grandfather is that he died in Columbus. I don't even know if he was born in Ohio or not or if he met and married my grandmother there. His name was Robert Allen SPROUSE he married Blanche (mn unknown) DITCHELL. My mother told me that he worked for the telephone company as a linesman. One night during a storm he was up on a pole and there was so much rain on his face that he couldn't see what he was doing. He removed his glove and started to wipe his face when his foot slipped and he grabbed for anything to prevent himself from falling. Apparently in those days they used some type of element in the connectors, that was poisonous to humans and that is what my grandfather held on to. He than went ahead and wiped his face off and put his glove back on, before he realized what he had done. Mom said that within a week his whole body had swollen to twice it's normal size and he died. Mom said (I think) that she was 9 years old at the time of his death, which would have put it around 1928. But yet it seems like she said that that was the year that she game down with rheumatic fever and I think it was my grandfather who nursed her back to health. So in other words - I'm not sure when he died or really how. Any help finding some family history would be greatly appreciated. I hadn't been in contact with any of my mothers family since her death in 1963, except for 2 uncles by marriage just this last year. One has since passed away and the other one doesn't remember too much either. All of mom's sisters are deceased and her brother is - who knows where? Thank you for your time. My great grandfather, Oliver Marion BUTLER, fought for the South during the Civil War. He was from Clay County, Va. (now W.Va.) and was captured early in the War. On May 2, 1862, he was transferred from a prison in Wheeling, W.Va. to Camp Chase Prison in Columbus, Ohio. I am seeking any information about him I can find, especially about his internment and when he was released. If anyone can give me an address that I can write to about Camp Chase prisoners, I would greatly appreciate it. I believe Columbus and Camp Chase to be in Franklin County, Ohio.

We have the record of the marriage only. A Franklin County search for a period of 40 years requested by other family members yielded no further CRAWFORD information. They were farmers and may have lived in some county other than where they married. The name LESTON was passed on through three generations and four individuals as a middle name, so it was NOT a mistake. They moved to Adair Co. MO in 1856 with two children, Daniel H. and William Mason.
