I'm researching the LORD family. An Abner LORD's will was documented in Franklin Co. in 1821. There was also a Thomas LORD who left there in 1826. I believe they had connection to Abner Kern LORD, born abt. 1822 in Scioto Co., OH. Abner Kern LORD may have had a brother named Henry. Abner Kern LORD married Susannah TETER MCMULLEN and their children were John, Albert, Frank, Sarah Elizabeth, and Eliza. Henry's wife was Lucinda, and their children were Mary E., John, William M., and Lucinda. Abner and Henry LORD moved to IL sometime between 1850 and 1860. Please contact me if you recognize this family. Thank you.

Hi Maggie,

I am looking for the birth record of a cousin - Grover Whitmer. Born 9/9/1888. I think he was born in Franklin County. He has been very hard to find, my mother and aunts thought his mother and father was their grandparents, but their grandfather died four years before he was born and on the 1900 census he is listed a grandson living with grandmother. To make it more complex on his death record - Perry County 6/29/1959 lists his parents as their grandparents too. If someone could look for his birth record in Franklin County I think that would clear up who is his parents.
Thanks alot.

In the "History of Columbus, Ohio," volume 2, it states that Judge Lorenz D. Hagerty was born in Muskingum County. The family moved to Licking County where he attended schools there. It goes on to state that his father Thomas HAGGERTY was a leading cattle raiser.

The book " Men Behind the Guns in the making of Columbus, Ohio" it shows Judge Lorenzo D. HAGERTY born in Pickaway County, Ohio.

I found land grants for a Thomas HAGERTY in Bucyrus Land Office, dated May 7, 1835. I don't know if this is the same Thomas.

I received my gggrandfather's obituary from Washington, PA. As usual with the Wilsons, it gave me some interesting information, yet left me with unanswered questions.

Washington Observer, Washington, PA, March 11, 1918
Francis M. Wilson, veteran of the Civil War, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. McCormick, East Prospect avenue, Saturday, after a short illness, aged 76 years. Mr. Wilson, together with four brothers, enlisted for service in 1861, when war was declared, in an Ohio volunteer cavalry regiment. The body will be sent today to Columbus, O., where the interment will be.

Of course, the death certificate lists the informant as C. MCCARRICK, not MCCORMICK, and there is a Cornelius McCarrick listed at the East Prospect address in the city directory. So why is his daughter listed as Mrs. McCormick in the obituary? Yet another thread to follow.

I think the information about the brothers joining the calvary is interesting. We do know that Francis' brother Howard died in battle in 1864 and his brother Jacob marched with Sherman. This leads me to assume that Francis' brothers Solomon and Reason both served in the Civil War as well--the only other brother, William, would have been only 10 in 1861.

This line of the Wilsons lived in Muskingum Co., OH for many years. Francis only lived with his daughter in PA for a couple of years.

There was a William Stephenson (Stevenson) who operated an early tavern at Franklinton. This man also was a member of the Stevensons of the Canal Winchester area (John Stevenson, Revolutionary Soldier buried in Madison Twp. In fact, William and John were brothers. The John Stevenson above was said to have helped in the Tavern business. The Stevensons and Hopkims families also had a Tavern at Waterloo, Ohio near Canal Winchester. The above Franklinton Tavern was mentioned in some early writings about Franklinton. A descendant of William Stevenson is a member of FIrst Families of Ohio. He is Charles Beaman Stevenson, formerly of Columbus and now of Indiana, Pa. Telephone 412-349-1766. Maggie, You seem to have access to a lot of info that I never seem to be able to find. (lack of knowledge) Anyway I was wondering if you may be able to find something for me. I have information on my family for a Michael LEAHEY, he was my gr.gr.gr. grandfather he was born in Ireland and married a Johanna HALEY. He had two daughters Mary and Johanna Leahey. Both daughters were born in Ohio Well I found him in the 1880 census for Franklin county but have not been able to find anything from that point on as to when he may have died or his wife Johanna . I do know about the daughter Johanna as she was my gr. gr. grandmother married to Thomas Cunningham, but I can't find when they were married.

In the 1880 census it lists Michael Lahey age 55 (name is spelled this way in the census) wife Johanna 45, daughter Johanna 16, daughter Mary Ann 13. I was wondering if you may possibly be able to find some kind of reference to ay of these people as to a death date or anything else that might help. I do know that Johanna LAHEY CUNNINGHAM died in 1917 but would lilke to know when her and Thomas Cunningham born 1861 were married.

Thanks for any help

Is anyone else researching the LORD family who came to Columbus, Franklin Co. in late 1700's/early 1800's? I'm trying to find info. specifically on Abner LORD, born 1760 in CT and died 1821 in Columbus. He was married to Mary SELDEN, bron 1761, I believe in CT also.

Abner LORD may have been the father of Abner Kern LORD, born abt. 1822 in Ohio. Abner Kern LORD had a brother named Henry and possibly one named John, also a sister named Nancy (married George HOOD) and a sister named Eliza. The LORDs lived in Piatt and Scioto (maybe Ross Co. too) before moving to IL in the 1850's.

Please let me know if you recognize this family. Thanks.
