Isn't Marietta in that county?

I'm researching the James and Alice Fish family....who came from Eng in about 1837....Actually I'm searching for a NANCY JANE FISH and in some census I saw that this family had a daughter Nancy who was about the right age. Mary was born on 2/25/1843 in Seneca Co., OH? However, it may have been Wayne Co., OH or a neighboring county.

She married Jacob Peter Wile, son of John WILE of Wayne Co., OH on 4/17/1860 in Seneca Co., OH. For this reason, I believe she was born in Seneca Co. also. I do know that Jacob's family is listed in the Wayne Co. History Book that is in the Shreve OH, library.

From Ohio, Jacob and Mary moved to Kansas. From here I am able to trace many of their descendants.

Any information on Mary Elizabeth Cook Wile would be appreciated.

Patrick is listed in the 1870 Census on June 6th in South Charleston, as being 25 and born in Canada, with his mother Mary FINN, born in Ireland, his brother, John, 22, born in Canada and Anna BUTLER, 13, born in Ohio.

Then on the 20th of June, same year 1870, Patrick is listed again in Madison Township as Patrick FINN, 25, born in Canada, with wife, Mary, 22, born in England. (Mary's sister, Margaret KILLGALON born in England married Patrick's brother, John FINN in 1871)

Then in the 1880 census, they are listed in South Charleston as Patrick FINN, 34, born in Canada, wife Mary, 33 born in England, their 5 children, and a mother, Mary BUTTLER, 60, born in Ireland.

I have a copy of their marriage certificate and unfortunately parents are not listed. I have his Civil War Pension Papers and I think Patrick died on June 21, 1905 and Mary KILLGALON FINN died on Sept. 17, 1932.

Pam2570@aol.com ------- NAME: Patty EMAIL:Pam2570@aol.com SURNAMES: ADAMS, FRYE, HARD, MERCER, ROBINSON DATE: Monday, October 19, 1998 QRYTEXT:Dear Maggie,
I hav'nt had any luck with my HARDS or MERCERS in Ohio, so I'll change my focus to the ROBINSONS : John ROBINSON was born in London in 1802, and as a young man was appointed "gilder and carver" to the crown, making many molds for the decorative ornamentation in Windsor Palace. He came to America, and settled in Ohio in March,1834. At that time he purchased a farm from William Sullivant. It was on the West bank of the Scioto River, 17 miles north of Colombus, which was then just a village. He carved the models for two large lions that were placed at the Ohio State Capititol, and carved much ornamentation for the same building as well as other public buildings. He also did carving in many of the fine homes in Colombus. For some time he painted portraits, and in about 1843 he was comissioned to make an analysis of crytogamia (non-flowering plants) of the United States, making drawings and descriptions of their place and habits of growth. He was also chosen to be a member of that scientific organization. Curiously, his neighbors thought "the old Britisher" had buried treasure, as they spied him studying the delicate mosses. However several nighttime excavations proved fruitless.
The children of John and Elizabeth ROBINSON, were William Hayes, Alfred John, Ruben William, Arthur Samuel, Mary Charlette Tuscaloosa and Guido. In 1853 the family relocated to another farm on Little Mill Creek, where he carved and painted the remainder of his life.
Questions:
* In what county were these farms? It could have been Delaware County, if it was a county at that time.
** Can anyone suggest how to locate John's drawings, portraits and carvings? We would be thrilled to have even a copy or photograph of any of these, or would be interested in purchasing them as well. I am trying to compile a photo albumn of his works.
* What could the scientific organization have been?
* Do the lions still exist at the capitol? And could the capitol at that time have been in Franklinton? If so, does the original capitol building still exist?
* Does anyone know anything about this family?

I apologizse for the length. In order to get answers to these questions I didn't know where to shorten it. If anyone has any information, our family would be ever so grateful to hear from you.

I new to these lists, but I have been trying to find some information on my James Armstrong (b. 1788 Milton, PA) who was in Ohio for a time - 10 yrs that I know of. I have always wondered if the moved to Ohio as a young man alone - or with family???

From the "Bureau of Land Management Eastern Land Patents" site I found a number of references to my James Armstrong - in Ohio as well as Michigan. Here is what I found. My James (who has been established to have arrived in Schoolcraft Twp, Kalamazoo Co, MI in 1829) went to the Monroe Michigan land office and purchased three land patents of 80 acres(quarter sections) each in April of 1831, and he is listed as "of Kalamazoo County, Michigan." THEN, in June of 1831 he went back to Monroe and purchased the other quarter of the section eight - and was listed as "James Armstrong, of Crawford County, Ohio." !!!!!!!!!!!

Previous, when I discovered Elizabeth Armstrong's maiden name to be GEORGE - a marriage record for James Armstrong and Elizabeth Armstrong was found in Columbiana, Co, Ohio for 1820. ????(This is not yet verified - I'm not sure how to find out if there is any other information, like ages, on this record.???)

So I looked in the Land Patents of Ohio for James Armstrong - and there in Crawford Co, Ohio is "James Armstrong of the State of Ohio" purchasing 80 acres the 10th of December, 1821. This would have allowed them to be married in Columbiana Co, Ohio,in 1820 and then move onto Crawford Co, Ohio in 1821 and then eight-ten years(1829-1831) later move north to Michigan. I'm not sure if Elizabeth & children would have moved with James at the very beginning - or may have move later. If the family was moved in 1831 - then perhaps the second purchase of land was because Crawford County land was sold in 1831??

Check this "Ohio Migration" site(**see what I found OLBEAR**):

http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~maggieoh/Gwen/migration.htm

Looks like the beaten path was leading my James from Columbiana Co & Crawford Co to Michigan!!

Like I told somebody recently, it is like the ditty "the hurrier I go the behinder I get" - well this is "the more research I do, the more I find, the less I think that I know!" I get more information - but instead of answering questions - I just get more questions!!

So, to sum it all up. Looks like MY JAMES was in Columbiana Co, Ohio in 1820(not verified at this point), moved from there to Crawford County, Ohio in 1821 and then north to Schoolcraft, Kalamazoo Co, Michigan in 1829 - perhaps moving the family a bit later. BUT - where was James between 1788 b. Milton, PA and 1820 Columbiana Co, OH - and how do and verify his parents??? Could he be the son of Andrew Armstrong of Milton PA(not verified at this point)?

Well, whoever posted the Land Patents site - THANKS A LOT!!! I found another piece to the puzzle - one that I didn't know existed!!! - and not the one I WANTED to find!!

Thankful, really,
Dorothy

Dear Armstrong List:

Does anyone possibly have information on Sarah ARMSTRONG Rogers who was born in the mid 1700s? Sarah ARMSTRONG could be possibly from Ireland, but she lived in Washingon County, PA. She was the great grandmother of George Armstrong Custer, the famous one of Custer's Last Stand at Little Big Horn.

CUSTER'S OHIO BOYHOOD by Charles B. Wallace:
"NAMES OF CUSTER CHILDREN: It has been said that General Custer was named for a Methodist preacher. It is more likely that he was named for a relative, perhaps George Washington Custer, his father's brother who resided at one time in Jefferson County, Ohio, or maybe for his mother's grandfather, George Ward. Doubtless, his middle name derived from the family name of his great grandmother, Sarah Armstrong."

"WARD FAMILY NOTES - General Custer's maternal grandparents were James Grier Ward and Catherine Rogers. James G., a son of George and Mary Grier Ward was born about 1768 in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. His wife Catherine, a daughter of Thomas and Sarah ARMSTRONG Rogers, was born about 1776 in Washington County, Pennsylvania.

Why are you so nice to do "free" look up requests?

I am looking for two things. Mainly the naturalization of Thomas THOMAS from wales. approximate immigration date is between 1863 and 1869 [1868 being the best guess], and his son Gomer Thomas born nov. 25, 1843 in wales not dec. 10. i find a gomer naturalized in 1875 on Oct. 11 in summit county but he is 28 not the 32 that my great grandfather would have been in 1875. but what i need is the naturalization of his father, but gomer seems to be easier to find than thomas so i had been working from that point thinking they may have been naturalized about the same time. i think the naturaliztions should have been between 1873 to 1876. and the birth of other children are still in medina til after 1875, so i am pretty sure it is medina. i have searched the summit co. and what little they have on medina county at the SLC Family History Library without success. i went to the county index here on the web and they show vital records, but not naturalization. any help you could suggest where i might find naturalization records for medina for 1870's would be greatly appreciated. Thomas' age is what i am really after as every census shows a different age for him even though the wife and children's ages are all correct. i need to get another age to pin down the right birth date. thomas's other children were - gomer, sarah, thomas, morgan, margaret, william, [lewis - not living in ohio] cecilia, lydia. his wife is ann lewis who was born in 1825 in mynyddyslywn, monmouth wales. Thomas was born in llantrisant, glamorgan, but after narrowing it down to 4 or 5 thomas thomas', i still need one more date to confirm the correct birth date.

thank you so much.

I searched again for John Vance's death cert. I found only Jack Vance who died in 1932. Unfortunately, when I got the cert he was a 3 year old child. Do you have any more information on him...like does he have brothers and sisters, childrens names that sort of thing. That will give me somewhere to start. There are a lot of Vance's in that area.

Maggie

P.S. Could he have gone by another name like a nickname or Colby?

This is Erin again. You wrote me a week or so ago stating that you were still looking for John Colby VANCE's death record for me. I have some updated info that I just received. It has come to my attention that the dates for him may be John Colby Vance ( 1861-1934) instead of the previous date of 1861-1932 that I gave you and that the county may have been Franklin, County Ohio.

Also the Henry Vance (1890-1918) may have been in Franklin County also. Also, that Henry's wife Iva Pearl (FORTH) Vance (1887-1927) remarried after Henry's death. Her new name would have been Iva Pearl SAXTON and that may also be under Franklin County.

All this info differs from what I had known before. Will this be of any help to you? I am sorry to put you to so much trouble. Thank you for all your help and support.

I was wondering if someone could help me. The Eastern Land Grants on the internet start at 1820. I have found him in the 1800 - 1810 taxes of Highland County. Probably his father or relative received the grant for war services. Richard was born abt 1715 in Va. and died in Highland County, Ohio at 105 yrs old.

Looking for a marriage for Richard about the same time, I have found a disputed will concerning his children in Highland County. No proof he was married at the time of the disputed will. Apparently the children lost the case since his wife, Elizabeth, inherited the land.

Would appreciate any help! Thanks again.

First birth records in that county can only be gotten by a relative. (grin)IE they would not release the info to me. You need to send to the Sandusky County Board Health
2000 Countryside Dr, Fremont, OH 43420
419-334-6377 or 419-334-6366
to request the birth certificate on Alberta Violet Thomas and to the
Sandusky County Probate Court
100 N Park Ave, Fremont, OH 43420
419-334-6211
to request the birth certificate on Albert Thomas.
Another place to check out is the Hayes library as they have a compueter searchable database of what they have (not online but they will look for you). If you find a hit they don't charge an unrealistic amount to send the info to you.

I have looked so very long for any information about JOHN IRWIN BRADY (great grandfather) Ephraim Gould was the father of John's wife MARY MELISSA GOULD.

I know, of course, many years have elapsed and things don't stay the same, but I am curious to find someone who might have come in touch with some knowledge about it, other than what I already have. material such as pictures, a little history, etc., would be great.

You are so great in finding information in such a very short period of time, I thought my best bet is to e-mail you. I have been searching for anything about John Brady for about five months. NOTHING !!

I thank you for any material you may find and I am more than willing to share what information I might have.

Thank you again,

My gg grandfather was WHITMAN WHIPPLE. He died in MI, in 1867, I believe he was born abt 1839-49. place of birth is listed as Ohio. His wife was Ann PAINTER b. Ohio. His parents are listed as William S. Whipple mother not listed. I find WILLIAM S. WHIPPLE wife Bethia, in Williams co in 1850 2 sons Benjamin and Augusta. (my Great grandfather's middle name was Augusta). Frank list his place of birth as MI. in 1865, so I believe they left Ohio about 1857. I have found nothing that links WHITMAN WHIPPLE with William S. except the death records and the fact that in the 1880 census Berrien co. Mi. William and Berthia lived 3 houses away from Ann and Frank. I think Augusta WHIPPLE may really be Whitman. What I am looking for is a special census, or land, school, or marriage records that will help me link WHITMAN WHIPPLE TO WILLIAM S. and Berthia WHIPPLE. My best guess is William Co. but they seamed to move a lot. William was a farmer. I believe Ann PAINTER and WHITMAN WHIPPLE may have been married around 1857 or 1858. I have no information on her family except she is listed a being b. in Ohio. Any help or clues you can give me I would most appreciate.

Maggie, I have worked on this family for some years, without further results. I have written to the historical soc. of each county and to the state, with no success. Would anyone happen to have the research material to tell if a Jesse Pearson (Pierson/Parson) is buried in Hocking County? He was found in Knox County during the 1850 federal census in Clinton Township. He was 42 years old, born in Pennsylvania and single. Family history indicates he died somewhere in Hocking County but we have no idea where his final resting place is (or when he died).

Jesse's brothers (over the years) lived in Morrow County, Knox County, Fairfield County, and Hocking County. It is possible that he may have ended up in one of these counties. Written family history indicates he's somewhere in Hocking County. Any and all help will be appreciated.

Elijah died in 1824. He filed for pension in Adams and Shelby Co. both. There were always members of the PLUMMER family anywhere Elijah moved to. I think they moved together.

Have been searching a long time for my gggg-grandfather, Daniel SNYDER. (that's how we spell it) born 1790s PA or OH (we think) married Elizabeth McMahan b. 1795 PA or OH (we think). Her parents Joseph McMahan b.1761 PA m. Mary Schryhauser/Schreihauser in 1792 Pittsburgh, PA. That part we know from the pension application of Joseph McMahan in 1820s.

Daniel and Elizabeth Snyder had 4 children (we know of) born OH: Joseph b.1816 m.(Nancy Clark), unknown son 1818 ran away at 14, Abner b.1820 m.(Margaret Cox), Sarah b.1822 m. (Francis "Frank" Parker). They appear to have lived in Sandy Springs, Adams Co, OH in 1830s. By 1844 this family had moved to Whiteside Co, IL where Elizabeth remarried. So, SOMETHING happened to gggg-grandfather Daniel before 1844.

Wondering about the "PA or OH" part... someone on one of the mailing lists talked about changing borders and when the different county and state borders were formed... what years and where did they actually live. Could all these ancestors have been born in VA or KY or PA or OH or some other territory instead. Depends on what group sheet you look at if it says PA on one sheet, the other one says OH. And, wondering if the Snyder name was Snider or Schneider or delSnyder/Schneider at some point.

Have you seen my gggg-grandfather in your research? How can I find him... such a lot of Snyders are out there... with so little information to go on? Could he be related to any of yours? Could his name really have been Joseph "Daniel" Snyder or John "Daniel" Snyder or James "Daniel" Snyder or Henry "Daniel" Snyder... Snider or Schneider???? Last, for sure, Lydia Stout, at which time he lived near Oxford, Ohio. Children. Warner,Luke,John, Hardin, luther, Martin,Benjamin, Betsey Stout, Sarah, India Stout, Lydia, Elizabeth?. There seems to be a rumor that he was married to an Elizabeth Vanscoyoc, altho there is no sure proof yet. He definitely died 9-21-1846 in Butler County and was buried at the now abandoned cemetery on Coulter Farm.

My grandfather was Walton Broadhurst Proctor born in 1898 in Athens but died here in Akron in 1966. His mother was Mary Broadhurst. I believe he had a brother Glen. I believe Walton is also a family name, as is traditional with the English to name their male children the family surnames.

I was always told by my father we were Welsh and English by ancestry. I have been told some of the Proctors that settled in Ohio were Welsh Guards men, brought by the English to fight the colonist. In return, given lands in Ohio. In my immediate family the tradition of the military was maintained.

Too, the Steinmetz family located in Cincinnati, Paducah, Kentucky and Lancaster County. My grandmother Proctor's maiden name was Florence Steinmetz and was born in Cincinnati. I do know that a William Steinmetz received a gold medal during the Civil War. My great grandfather was named William, but was to young for the Civil War.

I remember as a child being shown a red covered book, not very thick, describing the original settlers of Ohio and my name was listed as a descendent. I cannot however remember if it pertained to the Steinmetz's or Proctor line.

If anyone could be of help I would greatly appreciate it.

Kathy Proctor ------- NAME: Kathy Proctor EMAIL:kproctor@neo.lrun.com SURNAMES: CULLY, HAMMONTREE, WHITEHEAD DATE: Sunday, July 12, 1998 QRYTEXT:OK, here is my mother's side. we they have stayed in North East Ohio for over 300 years adding as they came.

The Hammontree's settled in 1712 in Stow, Ohio with Jonathon Hammontree. He moved here from Roanoke Virginia. The Cully's came sometime in the 1800's.My great grandfather was conceived in England but born here, with his mother being Irish but we do not know here maiden name. My grandmother is Helen Martha Cully (Hammontree) born in 1911 in Akron and is the youngest of 8 children.

Here is my interest, Mary Whitehead was Helen Cully's mother's name, she is my great grandmother. She married Thomas Cully, the one conceived in England. Mary is the mother of the eight children. I am interested in learning more of the Whitehead line. The story goes that the Whiteheads moved to America from England. After the man settled his wife and children he sailed back to England to bring over the company that existed in England. However, in England he was murdered. The property laws at the time was that women did not inherit the business or the money. I am interested in learning if Mary Whitehead was one of the children or descended from one of the children. My grandmother is old and is confusing families.

Linda Rathun ------- NAME: Linda Rathbun EMAIL:Pixienye1@aol.com SURNAMES: BREISCH, BRISH, COX, DONALD, JOHNSON, LAMBRIGHT, MATSON DATE: Wednesday, October 28, 1998 QRYTEXT:Hopefully, someone will be able to help me with this question.

Does anyone know anything about the descendants of William and Deliah (Snook) Brish?

William and Deliah (second wife-first died) married in Seneca Co. in 1829. They both came from Frederick Co., MD shortly before getting married in OH. William was the brother of General Henry Colgate Brish, who fought the Seneca Indians and drove them west of the Mississippi.

Henry Colgate had no children. William and Deliah had nine children supposedly. Supposedly because they were supposed to have had four boys and five girls. We can only find the names of three boys and five girls: Mrs. Elizabeth JOHNSON, Charles D. BRISH, (Henry) Colgate BRISH, Mrs. Cornelia COX, Mrs. Anna MccDONALD, Mrs. Harriet LAMBRIGHT (mine), Mrs. Rachel MATSON, and John BRISH. It appears that John Brish died in the Civil War at Pickett's Mills, per a newpaper article, letter from Capt. patterson to Mrs. Wm. Brish.

So that leaves Charles D. and Colgate to carry on the Brish surname. Does anyone know anything about these men or if there was another brother? Of course, if someone knows something about the women, we would appreciate any information.

According to our 92 year old new-found MD Brish cousin, the name Brish was once Breisch. He strongly believes that the Breisch was once Preusch, when the family lived in PA. The Breisches moved from PA to MD in the late 1700s and then to Seneca Co. in the 1820s.

Hopefully we can get together and make some matches!

Four children were born before Frederick died sometime before 1862: Clarissa, George, Edmund (b 1845 d 1918 OH) and Alexander (! b 1849 d 1927 Peru, IN). Eliza then married Peter VANDENBURGH and had two more children: James (b 1862) and William (b 1864).

Would anyone know Frederick's date of death?

Would anyone have any information at all about Eliza (Elizabeth) INGLE?

Thank you all for any help!

Sandy ------- NAME: Sandy Read EMAIL:MomsterR@usa.net SURNAMES: VANDEBERGH, VANDENBURGH, WRIGHT DATE: Monday, July 20, 1998 QRYTEXT:I'll try from the groom's point of view because I don't think there is anyone researching VANDENBERGHs in Ohio! I think I am the sum total!!

So ... Abraham WRIGHT married Sarah VANDEBERGH on 21 April 1825

Anyone have any ideas? She's too old to be the daughter of my 3great grandfather Peter VANDENBURGH, so could she be a sister? There are so many variants on this spelling that I can't help but think she was related I have no idea who immigrated with Peter as I'm unable to find any record of immigration.

Any ideas, especially from the WRIGHTs, would be more than welcomed!!

What I know:
These Mason's ended up founding the town Streator Ill.
Ellen Conley's family was in transit when they met:
"James Mason's wife's family in 1776 moved to Fairfax Co. VA where Joseph Warner owned land adjacent to G. Washington's Mt. Vernon plantation. In 1802 he moved to Madison Co. OH and on to LaSalle Co. IL in 1808. Practically everyone stayed in the Streator, Illinois area, and even Joseph Warner is also buried here in Illinois."
We have been searching for fifty years for more information on James Mason. We know he married his wife in Ohio, and their children Joseph, Isaac, and Sarah were all born in Ohio. Practically all were laid to rest in Illinois.
We have always followed the Episcopalian religion.
James Mason told us that he was from Virginia, like his wife.
Madison County, Ohio comes up frequently in Warner records.
The hard part to trace is that we know nothing about James Mason's ascendants, his parents, other brothers and sisters, if any.
Bless your search,
Cosette

William was with the William FOOS family, Hugh was with the David DAVIDS family, Isaac was with Mary SMITH, and Emiline (Emmaline) was with the Benjamin ROGERS family. William, Isaac and Emmaline are in Scioto Twp. and Hugh is in Radnor Twp.

Hugh Morris MCGEE married Elnora LYONS in Union County, OH 1861. She is the daughter of Mary LYONS.

I would be happy to share information and make contact with other researchers of these lines.

I do not know when she emigrated but it is unlikely to have been during the First World War (1914-18) and the family spoke of it as a past event in the 1930's. So on the basis of this rather flimsy evidence I suspect it would have happened between 1905 and 1914 or during the 1920's.

I am in need of your HELP!

Can you search for a Birth Certificate for my Grandfather:

Charles Franklin BAUMANN, born 12 Jan 1878, Sidney, OHIO

His Father: Christian BAUMANN, born 1840, Bavaria/Germany
His Mother: Ann Elizabeth GEMINN, born 1845, (Where unknown)
Her Father: Daniel GEMINN
Her Mother: WEAVER

All I've found is an 1880 Census listing.
Charles F. had brothers:
Daniel C. BAUMANN, born 1874
John L. BAUMANN, born 1877
and there was a girl named: Ettie M. Carmaham, b. 1866, in that 1880 Census.

In some Miami County Geneology website, there was a database that listed Christian BAUMANN as Head of Household, Census for 1880, Shelby County, OHIO, original Census page of 196B, Perry Township.

I'd also like a Death Certificate search for Christian BAUMANN and Ann Elizabeth GEMINN. But I only assume they died somewhere in OHIO. I don't really know if they did.

Charles F. Baumann wound up in the Northwest, where he married my Grandmother of Laura E. Roberts and she gave birth to my Dad, Robert De Lee Baumann, on 3 Feb 1921, in Eugene, Lane County, Oregon. My Dad changed his name legally to Robert De Lee Roberts in 1943.

I don't want to make this overly long, as I'm sure you are too busy. I greatly appreciate your efforts and will pay for Copies or whatever you need to accomplish my Lookup Request. Best Regards from Drew (Baumann) Roberts, kyack1@ibm.net

Fran ------- NAME: M. E. Robertson EMAIL:DustiGen@aol.com SURNAMES: FINK DATE: Thursday, July 9, 1998 QRYTEXT:Sandy,

I can identify with your thrill of being connected. Both sets of my mother's grandparents immigrated from England in the 1880s. On the paternal side of her family, she and her sister were it. On the maternal side there were so few and scattered so few of her cousins and widely scattered. My father died when I was a young child and tho he had scads of cousins, we didn't live near any of them and would visit an aunt and uncle about twice a year. Its even a bigger thrill when a cousin is so excited to meet YOU because you can say "I'm one of your XXXX cousins. Your grandmother XXXX and my grandfather XXXX were brother and sister". And you may very well be the ONLY cousin connection they've had on that side of the house. I recently had that experience with two different cousins I could tell them how and why the majority of the family - except their grandmother & her children - left the county and where the majority of the family lived.

Sorry folks that it has taken me this long to get to this point. I noticed Sandy that you have FINKs in your line. I have finally compiled what I have on my FINK family and setting it down below. I have to get back to PA, but I'm certain that my Jacob spent time in OH before he moved on to IN. All of his neighbors in IN had some kind of connection to OH.

All my information is from Death, Probate, Marriage & Census records.

Jacob FINK b 7 August 1819 in PA, d. 4 May 1856 in Pulaski Co., IN married (1st) Catherine ? who was born circa 1821 in NY, d. 23 December 1851 (I believe they married in OH about 1843).

Their known children were:
Mary Emily FINK b about 1844 b OH
Maria Louisa FINK b about 1846
Minerva Elnora FINK b about 1847
Sarah Alice FINK b about 1849
Jacob Alonzo FINK b about 1851 b IN

Jacob married 2nd Mary SKILLEN b. 1828 in OH the widow of Jacob STRALHEIM on 28 March 1852 in Pulaski County, IN

Their children were:
Florence C. FINK b. 24 Aug 1854 in Pulaski Co., IN m. 23 December 1869 in Cass County, IN Henry RHOADS (this name is spelled from this to ROADS) d. Logansport, Cass County, IN 2 Aug. 1934
Sarah FINK b. about 1855 in Pulaski Co., IN, died after 1913 prior to Aug 1934
Eli W. FINK b. 6 November 1856 in Pulaski Co., IN m. in Pulaski Co., IN d. 10 January 1929.

Florence C. FINK and Henry RHOADES (his CW record states that his surname is spelled RHODES, but he is buried as RHOADES and was married as RHOADS) are my gr-grandparents.

I'll be taking another trip to IN late this fall to do some more digging into the FINKs in Cass/Pulaski Counties. I did examine the guardianship and probate record for Jacob this spring. He consulted two doctors in Logansport, IN (a full day trip one way) regarding himself and the children just two days before he died. No death records so the cause eludes us.

Can we connect?

With the middle name of FINK there surely has to be a connection to the FINK family; perhaps you already have it, if not you might want to look further, try this link: Rhodes Family or http://dttwv01.org/sue/rhodes.htm Both should lead to the same place.

Thanks for the address. Your e-mail request, after being researched, will be placed in our surname files so that anyone else researching the same name, will be able to contact you."

I need some assistance with the following:
My father's mother as well as all her children were born in Columbus. Her father was Gregory RAPP. I have found a Gregory Rapp in the 1900 Census but was not able to locate one in the 1870 or 1880 Censuses which may have my grandmother listed in his household. Her name was Ellen Mary Rapp or Mary Ellen RAPP. She was born on born Aug. 25, 1864(3), Columbus, Ohio (German Catholic descent). She deceased in Columbus, Ohio 1918 at Essex Ave., Columbus, Ohio. I have a copy of her death certificate that I obtained from the Ohio Historical Society. Her mother was supposed to have deceased when she was one or two years old. Ellen Rapp Roy's death certificate records her mother as Ellie KIMEY. I believe that KEIME is a more likely surname name based on telephone listing searches in the US and Germany.

John G. ROY - born Apr. 1854, England (Census - 1900) or Glasgow, Scotland ? (Scots-Irish descent) - Emigrated to USA at age 3 - deceased Nov. 15, 1914 at Detroit, Mich. - married Oct. 12, 1883. He was the head of household in the 1900 Census - residence Woodward Ave., Clinton TWP, Franklin County, Columbus, Ohio. (If anyone is interested, I can send information on the descendants of John G. Roy and Ellen Rapp Roy).

The following is information on Gregor(y) RAPP that I have not confirmed to be my relative:
From the 1900 Census soundex microfilm located at the National Archives, Washington, D.C.:
Gregory Rapp - born Nov. 1835 in Germany
Location: Pennsylvania Ave., Franklin County, Ohio, Montgomery TWP
Wife: Anna - born 1844 in Germany
Daughter: Kate - born Apr 1874 in Ohio
Son: Peter - born Sept 1874 in Ohio (I tried to use this birth month; year as well as Sept 1873; 1875 in the Social Security Death files but I didn't find anything. He was listed below Mary so he may have been born in 1884).
(I did not find Peter Rapp on the OHS dindex for the years available in Franklin County.)
Daughter: Lizzie - born July 1877 in Ohio
Daughter: Mary - born 1881 in Ohio
Granddaughter: Ida - born May 1891 in Ohio

Joseph RAPP was informant on Gregory Rapp's death certificate - how does he relate to Ellen Roy? Peter RAPP was informant on Anna Rapp's death certificate

The following is per LDS IGI files:
Father: Dominik(us) RAPP Katholisch, Beuren Ueberlingen,
Mother: Klara DREHER Konstanz, Baden , Germany
Joseph RAPP (M)....................... C: 15 Feb 1820
Anna Maria RAPP (F)................... C: 3 Feb 1821

Agnes RAPP (F)........................ C: 6 Jan 1839
Philippine RAPP (F)................... C: 22 Apr 1841

Gregory RAPP's death certificate does not have information on his parents. I assume that Gregor Rapp and Gregory Rapp are one and the same person since the baptismal date and birth date agree.

I also presume that someone related to Gregor RAPP did research for LDS ceremonies and the FCGS may have some record of research done locally. If it seems peculiar that I don't know much about the relationship to the Rapps, according to what my father told me, his mother was disowned by the family when she married outside the Roman Catholic Church.

Ralph Rapp - wife Eva Long (Rapp) Note: Ralph Rapp was acquainted with Gregory Roy who resides in Westerville.
Eva's mother was Lizzie Clinger (Long)

I have attempted to establish contact with Rapps in the Columbus area by way of e-mail but have not received responses.

Basically, I am trying to confirm a link between Gregory Rapp and Ellen Rapp Roy. If you have any information on Ellie Kimey (Keime) I would appreciate it also.(Note: I did white page searches find Keime listings in the USA and Germany.

I suspect that there are some good leads at the historic Catholic church in German Village, St. Marys Church, 684 South Third St., Columbus, OH 43206, (614) 445-9668.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Sincerely,
Frank Roy

Looking for wife and children of Lycurjus Cooper. Especially, a son who has children, Charles (Charlie A.) born Ohio 1855, Samatha born Ohio 1857, and Leonidas C. born Ohio 1859? Charles is my gggrandfather and I cannot find his parents. I found charlie, Samantha and Leonidas C. living with a James B. COOPER, and a John COOPER, and Lycurjus was also a member of James' household. I'm hoping John and James were Lycurjus' sons, and they took in Charles and family. Unsure what happened to Charles' parents. Anything you can find for me would be so greatly appreciated. I found this township and county last night but do not have access to the Ohio census. Keeping my fingers crossed!!

Janie Cooper Russell ------- NAME: Kim Leazenby Russell EMAIL:Msplcdtex@aol.com SURNAMES: LEAZENBY DATE: Wednesday, September 2, 1998 QRYTEXT:Searching for information on my GG GF, James LEAZENBY. Most specifically, where he was born/date, parents/siblings, you know - anything I can get my hands on!

From the 1860 Indiana census, James was 37 years old (born sometime in 1823) and was born in OH. His wife's name was Susan M. (don't have her maiden name) born 1832 in VA. Their sons: Caleb (born 1852 in IN) and Joshua W. (born 1854 in IN - my G GF). From this information, I'm assuming James and Susan married around 1850 timeframe....

An 1850 OH census lists a James Leazenby living in Pickaway Co., Darby Twp., OH. He is also listed on an 1851 OH census, same place and then is in Miami Co., Osawatomie Twp., KS in 1870. Is there anyway I can confirm that this is the same person as listed in the 1860 IN census?

Any help on this family is greatly appreciated.

Ryan EMAIL:markdryan@aol.com SURNAMES: ROGERS DATE: Sunday, May 17, 1998 QRYTEXT:I am searching for any information (but at least a date of death) for a man named William K. ROGERS (AKA Col. W. K. ROGERS, and the honorable W.K. ROGERS) who, I believe originated from Columbus, Ohio. The only info I know of him at this point is that he lived in Duluth, Minnesota during the late 1800's and was president of the State Bank of Duluth, AND the first president of the Duluth park commission, serving between 1889-1891. He seems to have abruptly resigned as park board president, perhaps because of illness. The 1892 Duluth city directory states that he returned to Columbus. I believe he died sometime around 1891-1895. He may have also done some surveying in Minnesota during the mid to late1800's for railroad or mining concerns.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.
