I am hoping that you can help me determine the spelling of my ancesters Ezekiel Sargeant and Jane of Jennie LOCKER or LOCKARD Sargeant. I know that in later years the name was spelled SARGEANT however I just received word that they are buried in the Sturm Cemetery, Shelby County, Ohio and the spelling may be SARGENT. Ezekiel died on Aug 8, 1839 and she died on Sept. 1, 1849.

Thank you for your time.
Janet Sargeant Carpenter

The spelling in the cemetery records is Sargeant. I copied the page as there were a lot of Sargeants besides Ezekiel and Jane. If you want the entire thing just send me a self addressed stamped envelope to 650 N. Drexel Ave., Columbus, Ohio 43219.

From the Sturm Cemetery in Green Township, Shelby County:
Sargeant, Ezekiel, d. Aug 8, 1839, 55y.
Sargeant, Jane, wofe of E., d. Sept 1, 1849, 56y 29d

My cousin's maiden name was Maudie WATKINS and her married name was TAYLOR. Her husband's name was Monte Taylor. I did not know either of them and I found out about Maudie through the obituary of her father, my maternal uncle, which was in 1960. He was, or had been, a minister with the Wesleyan Tabernacle Association and died in Middletown at the age of 71. He had been living in Portsmouth but had remarried and moved to Middletown three months before his death of a heart attack. As far as I know Maudie was the only member of the family living in Cleveland. Her mother and brother had already died but, I believe, in another part of the state. Thank you very much. I am searching for information on my father. I have his death certificate that states he was born in Zanesville Ohio on 5/5/1922. I would like to see/know who was listed on his birth certificate as parents. There is the possibility that he was adopted either officially or unofficially at some point in time possibly during the Depression. There are no known relatives left from my fathers family to ask questions of. What little information I have comes from my mother's family. My father's name was Charles Patrick GRIFFIN. The names listed for parents on his death certificate are Mary Leslie and Joseph J. Griffin. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Jamie G. Griffin. You can reach me at jgriffin@dbtech.net. Maggie, Thank you again for all of your help. I was afraid I was going to have to make a trip to Zanesville myself if I was ever going to find anything. To help with your search, my father may have had an older sister and possibly a younger brother. I do know that he served in the Marine Corps from 1942 to 1957 on both active and reserve duty. He was in the Pacific during W.W. II and here at Cherry Point N.C. during Korea. Maybe that will give you some adittional refrences. Thank you once again you are greatly appreciated! Jamie Griffin

They are Mabel EPPERSON or MANDRELL and Bert WALKER. I feel this is their second marriage. EPPERSON is Mabels birth surname MANDRELL is from her first marriage - I think? They were married in 1929 (where I have no idea). They died in Michigan in 1942 and 1940 resp. This orphaned my mother at an early age. I am having a difficult time finding any info on these two individuals. When my mother (who now has Alziehmers) was searching back in the 60's, her sister, who lived in Michigan, told her that a lot of people elope to Bowling Green, OH. I realize there is alot of assumptions going on but isnt alot of genealogy started with them? To sum up this novel - I am searching for the marriage of Mabel EPPERSON or MANDRELL to Bert W. WALKER in 1929. I would understand if what I am asking is way too much trouble for you. Thank you for any (if any) information.

Here is what I have, not a book, but nearly one, except it is missing a vital piece of info which will tie it all together, I hope! :) The main question(s) I hope for an answer to is: Who are the parents of George W. NOLAN? Is Edward NOLAN his father, or not? The focus of all my NOLAN research is my elusive 3 G Grandfather: GEORGE W. NOLAN: born 31Jan1823 ??County, OHIO?. Nothing positive known on his siblings, & only the nick-name of "Old Neddy" Edward?? ("Old Natty" or "Old Netty") known for his father, who is presumed to have been of Irish descent, or possibly an immigrant from Ireland. Also, family rumor has it that one of George's brothers was named Henry. No proof on anything. Happy Ancestor Hunting..... Thanks again! I have a query, but not about a specific name, so I was not sure if it should be on the usual query section. I am hoping to find out from anyone in the Miami valley if a county courthouse burned down destroying records in the 1842-1900 period. I've recently been in touch with a descendant in common, and older than I who recalled her father telling her the reason why we cannot find any records was because the courthouse burned. My ancestor in question is believed born between 1842 & 1844 in one of the following counties: Miami, Preble, Butler or Montgomery. Yet I cannot find evidence of him until seen on the 1860 census age 18, then in Butler Co. Family tradition says he was born in Montgomery Co, and I found a birth record of one of his son's that says he was born in Miami Co., then I found an LDS record that shows a person by the same name, which alleges Preble Co. I don't think that person is likely the same man, but I cannot be certain. I hoping to at least narrow my search to a county which has had vital records destroyed. ( wonder if during the civil war ?) Anyway My ancestor in question is George W. Hartley (I think I've put a query on your page several months ago about him.) has apparently had NO parents and only one likely sib. Thank you & sincerely, Allan Griffith
