FRANKLIN HOBBS in Aug. 1891 and had 4 sons: Ray, Harry, Willard & Harley from 1892-1901. They resided in Delaware Co. in 1900 census. They divorced in Aug. 1916 in Chicago, a note on the documents said she was moving out of town (prob. back to either Delaware Co. or Frankilin Co. where she was born). She remarried, but I don't know her new name. I am hoping death records are cross-referenced by a woman's maiden name. I can't seem to find her anywhere & I don't know what else to do.

Quick, grab your family records sheets...I may have a breakthrough which officially connects me to this group. But need some confirmation, assurances, documents, hints! I think I've found parents of Charles M. COOK who immigrated from Connecticut to Medina Ohio in 1818.
Have strong indications that his parents were James Munson Cook (b 11 June 1765 in Waterbury or perhaps New Haven and Thankful Prichard daughter of Isaac PRICHARD and Lois BRONSON of Waterbury. Believe James arrived in Medina with his son in 1818. According to a reference book, James M. Cook's will was probated in Medina in 1823.
James was possibly the son of Charles Cook (b.1741, d 11 Aug 1764) and wife Sibil/Sybil MUNSON of Waterbury, Conn; (Source FHL records)

Hi Maggie and group.
I'm trying to find the date of death for both my grgrgrandparents. My grgrandfather was James William DENTON sometimes called Bill. His mother was, according to the family, Mary HICKS before she married William DENTON in Bardney Lincolnshire, Eng. I have found information that says her maiden name was really HAMMER and she first married a HICKSON before she married William DENTON. I know she had at least 2 children with the HICKSON surname and they were older than my grgrandfather. She may even have remarried after William DENTON died.
Here's what I think is accurate. Mary, her husband William DENTON, my grgrandfather Bill, and her daughter Elizabeth HICKSON came to the US from Bardney Eng. in either 1866 or 1867. They settled in Morrow County, Ohio. William DENTON died soon after that. I'm not sure about Mary, but Bill and Elizabeth stayed in Morrow Co. the rest of their lives. Mary and Elizabeth kept a toll road at Shawtown, west of Cardington OH, not far from where they were living. I haven't been able to find Mary in the cemetery where her son and his wife (also a Mary, just to complicate things) are buried. I have Bill's obituary. I also have a newsclipping about Elizabeth's 95th birthday, and the obituary of her brother Isaac Hickson who also lived in the Morrow Co. area. None of these say anything about their mother or fathers.
Sorry this is so long, but does anyone have any suggestions about how to find this woman? Thanks for hanging in there and reading this to the end. Kaye Moore Coller

Hello, I'm new to the list....just today. I was so glad to find an Ohio list. I am hoping to find my gg-grandparents with little to nothing to go on. Here's what I have:
C (?) WILSON born 1842 in Ohio d before 1908 place unknown Married Mary (?) JACKSON (?) born 1841 in Ohio died after 1908 place unknown. They were in Indiana by 1859 when I have the first date of a birth of a child (have been unable to get birth certificate). The only thing I have that I am sure of is a death certificate of their daughter. The writing is not very clear which is why I am not sure of my gg-grandmothers last name it looks like Jackson. I have possibly filled in the first name (Mary) and the initial (C) from an 1880 Kansas census but this is just a possibility. To add to the mystery, my father always said his g-grandmother was Native American. I have a picture that might be her in Native Dress. I have been stuck on these two for years and each year I just know I will find them...still waiting.
Does Ohio have one big index for say 1850 (they should be on that one). Or does anyone have any ideas...short of going through all counties one at a time. I didn't win the lottery last week so I don't know if I could fund that venture.
Thanks for listening and I am open to any suggestions or help. Carleen

PAGE Arminda Jane (Brandt), Margaret Ann (Eli MILLER); Thaddeus Clement (Christy NEER); Bennet Martin (Emma COPELAND) Eliza Mildred (John NEER); Samantha Eunice (David MILLER)
Darke County: WESTFALL, John and Mary. (married July 20, 1800) dau Mary married Abe Nicholas 1827.
Meigs County: ROOT, Stephen (born 1777 Connecticut) wife Mary. Children - Electa Fowler b. in Point Pleasant, Meigs Cty, 10-14-1828 - 3-2-22) (married John Wesley HUDSON 12-27-1853), Perry (b. 1824); Henrietta, Stephen Jr. (b. 1822) Peter (b. 1820 ? Mass.) According to front page Dayton newspaper obit. of Electa, Stephen traveled down the Ohio River on a riverboat with Jesse Root Grant, father of U.S. Grant, and she played with future President as a child.)
Clinton County: HUDSON, John Wesley born 1832, married Electa Root in Meigs Cty, died 12-20-1863 Marietta, GA, prisoner of war camp. He is NOT the son of Selby Hudson of Clinton County who was also John Hudson born in 1832. I have not been able to find anything at all about his history. Their children were Albert W (1-4-1855) (Jennie Siles); George Orville (2-16-1856 - 5-17-1918) married Barbara Ellen Bittner in 1880; and John Walter (12-27-1862 - 1946)
Many of these people ended up in Dayton, where I grew up and consider home even though I now live in Mesa, Arizona..
Now - here's where I need some expert advice. I have a SouthWest Airlines ticket that I need to use before the first of the year. It was suggested to me by a friend that I go to the Salt Lake Genealogy Center. Then, the other day I saw a note about the Ohio library on Velma. Have any of you out there in Cyberland been to both places? As so much of my research deals with Ohio, I'm tempted to go the Ohio route. (As well as the urge to see my ancestral home state again!) But I'm told that Salt Lake has just about everything that the localities have.
I could go on a Thursday night and take Friday and Saturday at the research facilities. As a public school teacher, mother of three children currently in college and one in high school, I'll be on a real shoestring budget. Any suggestions for inexpensive lodgings close to either library? What about potential big event weekends to avoid? (Specifically Ohio State home football games.)
I live very close to an LDS FHC here in Mesa and have gone through the census records, and the few Ohio books, but that's about all. Any suggestions?
Please let me know if there are any family connections with what I've posted as well as any travel/research suggestions.

I am also searching for information on Augustus G. McClellan, my gg grandfather. I know little about him except that the marriage to Margaret was at least his second marriage and he was quite a bit older than she was.

I am new to this page and I was wondering if somebody could help get the ball rolling for me. My family originated from Ohio and we have family bibles with information going back to 1756 but we have come to some dead ends. My family names are Clark, Crawford, Crain, and McDonough (just starting on this line). I have some others scattered in there but not a whole bunch. For the Clark branch I have back as far as 1756 with John Clark. The Crawford branchI have starts with Samuel b. Jan. 23, 1791 and married Charity Crawford b. Jun. 21, 1797. The Crain branch starts with Oliver Crain b. May 1, 1818 who married Abagail ______. The McDonoughs that I have are Redman and Elenor. Elenor married into the Clark family and Redman is her father. Can anybody help fill some holes for me. It has been 13 years since I have been to Ohio to see my family heritage. We were there to bury my grandmother in the family plot in Warren Co. I wish that I could go more often but living in Alberta, Canada I don't have much of a chance to do that. My mother informed me that I am related to Rev. Lucien Clark and that we have one of his bibles.
I hope that somebody will be able to help. If any of this sounds like it may be your family please let me knoe so that I can give you of the information that my family has managed to find.

Dear Maggie, You were recommended to me by Sue Smith of the Baden-Wurttemberg list. She thought your group might be able to help me find out more info about my g-grandmother, Francis. I can't find out how she spelled her maiden name, whether WITTER, WATTER, or WATTERER. Different records show one or the other. She was born in the village of Wolfbach, Baden-Wurttemberg in 1817. She went to Cincinnati to visit her brother, met her fella', John B. Weythman, and they married June 1, 1840. They moved across the river to Kentucky for a while, then to NE Kansas. They died there and are buried in Doniphan County, KS. I have lots of descendant info to share if anyone wants it.
Hoping to hear from you, with thanks, Allene Rollier Niehaus

Maggie,
Since there are no birth records prior to 1867, how does one go about finding birth dates? I'm researching the surname ROSE. Henry ROSE lived in Clarksfield ca 1840 until ca 1851 as their was a law suit against him by an Almanza Hamlin that was found. Henry and his wife Candes had three children that were born in Ohio. They are James, Malvina, George and other children listed were Matthias, Betsy, Henry . I think Henry and Matthias are the same. I'm going by the 1850 Clarksfield census which lists only Mathias, James, Malvina and George. The last three being born in Ohio, 1840, 1845 and 1847. Found Land records for Ohio for a Henry M. ROSE for the land office of BUCYRUS, year is 1835. Don't know if this is my Henry or not but need to know where I would go to find out more about this? Thanks for your help. Sharen Smbold@aol.com

My mother and I are researching the Williams family of Southern Ohio. My grandmother, who had all the information regarding the family is deceased, but the following is the information we do have. If you could help us we would greatly appreciate it. We keep running into roadblocks.
1800's Williams (first name unknown) had a first wife (also unknown) and produced two children, George and Darkus.
George married Ella Forman(sp?) and had at least one daughter, Hazel Elru Williams.
Darkus married a gentleman by the name of Gamble.
When George and Darkus' mother died, their father remarried. This time to an Indian woman (Blackfoot tribe) by the name of Lisa or Lela. This union produced at least one son, Delbert.
Delbert married Nancetta Green. This union produced Cora Williams who died in 1916 (we're guessing).
Cora Williams married Milo Fannin who died 12/7/1914 in Madison Co., OH. This union produced two daughters, May and Millie(?). When both Milo and Cora died, the two girls were separated. May went to KY and Millie stayed with Delbert and Nancetta.
My grandmother, May, provided most of the names before she died, but no dates. I have searched for Cora, who was my great-grandmother, but have found no sign of her. Assuming that she changed her name back to Williams when my great-grandfather died, I found a listing of a Cora Williams having died in Portsmouth, OH on 7/15/1916. Volume #1984 Cert #41189. I have not gotten this death certificate or the one for Milo yet. But aside from these I am running into roadblocks. It is almost as though they never existed. Did you have any other information, by chance, that you have come across?

Hi Maggie,
Hope someone on the list can help me climb my brick wall--or at least chip away at it a little more!
Trying to locate information on Isaac and Sally MILLS who were living in Warren County, Ohio 1806--1820. There were two Isaac Mills living in the area at the time. Mine, (I suspect a non-Quaker) married to Sarah/Sally, and the other (a Quaker) married to Catherine. Isaac and Sally bought and sold some parcels of land between 1806 and 1818. Of particular interest is his sale of 100 acres to Ephraim Mills and 100 acres to Alexander Mills July 3, 1820. Isaac and Sally disappear after this date. I am trying to prove (or disprove) the assumption that Ephraim and Alexander were sons of Isaac.
Alexander, his wife Sarah/Sally Gilpin, and their family left OH for Indiana about 1826-1828. Ephraim and his wife Patience Reagan remained in the area and both are buried in Miami Cemetery at Waynesville. I found Ephraim's obit in the Western Star 5/20/1869 issue as a footnote referencing "From the Miami Gazette", but no reference to his ancestry. Have been unable to track down the Gazette for that time period. Cemetery had no further info. Also know that Ephraim was a J.P. in Warren County in 1854.
What am I missing? Can anyone give me some suggestions?

Hello, I am searching for information on my husbands grandfather, John PATSON b 12 Nov 1908 d. 18 March 1981 in Michigan. His obituary states he was born in Ohio. Don't know where in Ohio but I believe his parents were Charles and Susan Patson. His obit says he lived in Flushing, MI for 55 years and Swartz Creek for 17 which means he left Ohio under 1 yr of age. I found an A. Patson in the 1840 census for Xenia, and a death cert. for Anna Patson d. 22 Feb 1917, Cuyahoga Co., OH. Don't know if there is any connection but that is all I have on this gentleman. Any help would be appereciated or direction on where to search.

Hello to all. I have just recently joined your list in the hope of learning more about my husband's family. The name is KUHBANDER and it is my understanding that most of them lived in the Montgomery and Putnam county areas. The information I have recently been given indicates that most of them settled in Ohio directly after immigrating in from Germany. I would love to find out any information any of you may have concerning this family. For many years my husband has thought his family members were the only ones still living, and that he was the last of the Kuhbander line. (that was before the birth of our son, after being married for twenty years) He was pleasantly surprised a few weeks ago when I located an inlaw through one of the search engines on the net. She is the one who gave me all of the information I now have, and I would love to know more.....

Well, I've posted a couple of times about researching Jackson Co. folks today. I thought I'd share a little bit of what I found out. I'm trying to get as much info on the Jackson Co., OH lines of our family before the family reunion in Jackson at the end of the month.
I have found one more generation back on the BARTON line:
Thomas Barton m. Charlotte Haile 24 Dec 1816 in Jackson Co., OH I know they had at least 4 sons: Wilson b. 1820 Dillard b. 1823 Hamby b. 1827 Creighton b. 1830 We are descended from Hamby. Hamby's brothers Wilson and Creighton both served in the 27th OVI. Creighton came home; Wilson died in service 19 Sept 1863.
Ironically, I chose not to name my youngest son Wilson Barton, because, although I wanted to name him after my father (Robert Woodrow Wilson), I didn't like the way Wilson and Barton sounded together. Little did I know. . . .
I also found more names to eventually add to my sig file: Hamby's in-laws were John QUICKLE and Elizabeth WARE
All and all a pretty profitable day, don't you think? It would really top it off if one of you could connect to this, wouldn't it? LOL!!

Hello everyone. This is my first post to the list.
The Leach family moved from MA to CT before coming to Geauga Co., OH. Solomon Leach b. 1814 NY, d. 1892 Arbila, Tuscola Co., MI, m. Harriet Ann FOWLER b. 1812 CT, d. 1846 Burton, Geauga, OH. She is buried in the Fowler Cemetery in Bainbridge OH. They had 6 children: Philetus E. b. 1836 OH, Enard b. 1837 OH, Sylvester b. 1841 OH, Edgar Fenton b. 1842 Burton, OH, Harriet b. 1845 OH, & Francisco b. 1839. All 5 boys served in the Civil War. After the War they scattered. Harriet, Enard, & Sylvester all went to MI. Philetus went to IA. Edgar went to Holt Co., MO. And Francisco stayed in Burton. Solomon married twice more to Mary Maynard in 1847 and had 2 boys Moses and Charles. His third marriage was to Susan Hoard by which he had 5 more children: Allison (M) b. 1857, Susan, Mary, Vivian, & Ulyses S. Grant Leach. Susan is the wife that moved to MI with Solomon.
Solomon's parents are the ones I would like to ask about. Harvey and Irene Van OCKEN LEACH. I have almost no information on them. Harvey was born in CT. And they had the following children: Harvey b. 1806, Solomon b. 1814 NY, Ira b. 1823, Charles, Elias, James, & Nancy. I would like to know if Harvey and Irene migrated from CT to OH. It is the only explanation I can find for Solomon being born in NY.
On Harriet Ann Fowler's line I know her grandparents Caleb and Mollie CHITTENDEN FOWLER migrated from Guilford, CT to Burton, OH. Caleb b. 1755 Guilford, New Haven, CT, d. 1822 Burton, OH, m. 1778 Mollie Chittenden b. 1760 Guilford, CT, d. 1787 in CT? They had a son Anson b. 1787 CT. Caleb married a second time to Olive MEIGS. Caleb served in the Rev. War. Anson b. 1787 CT, d. 1880, m. Lois HOTCHKISS b. 1791, d. 1854. These are Harriet Ann's parents. I have nothing further on them. Any information appreciated.
Harry H. LEGG was supposedly born somewhere in OH about 1840. He showed up in Lawrence CO., IN in 1866 when he married Nancy BEASLEY. They separated (not sure if they actually divorced although both remarried) after having one son Charles Henry in 1869. After the separation he shows up in IL in 1883 when his son Harry is born to his second wife Olive ALDRICH. He was supposedly a telegraph operator. Any clues to Harry is appreciated since he and Charles had no contact after the separation. Charles thought his last name was Beasley until the military told him otherwise.
Thank you for reading this, and for any clues to any of these people.

CARROLL, Lawrence Dunlap, Born September 19, 1848, at Bellfataine, Clark County, Ohio.
Catherine Carroll is my husband's great-grandmother and Lawrence is her brother. Their parents were Lawrence Carroll and Ann Dunlap, both born in Ireland. We know there were several other brother and sisters, but are having trouble finding names and dates. One was Thomas W. I cannot find these towns on any Ohio maps (unless Bellfataine is in another county-possible). This family moved to Frontier County, Nebraska in 1873.

Montecorice,Ortodonico, Salerno, Italy on 6.6.1860) Married Teresa DILUCCIA (b. in Casigliano, Sessa C., Salerno, Italy) two children: Teresa jr. MEOLA(b. 6.4.1879) Vincenzo MEOLA(b. 1.12.1881) Angelo MEOLA and Teresa DILUCCIA emigrated and they left in Italy Vincenzo and Teresa Jr. On march 1881 Angelo MEOLA and Teresa DILUCCIA left Italy by ship "Vincenzo Florio" and they arrived to USA and they settled in Zanesville, OH (perhaps, later they settled in Columbus). They entered port of New York on the April 8th 1881.
In Zanesville, from Angelo MEOLA and his wife were born Luisa, Giulia, Maria, Angela and Nina MEOLA.
Vincenzo and Teresa jr., when adult, decided to emigrate from Italy to Zanesville and they united to the family.
In 1922 Angelo MEOLA, his wife and his son Vincenzo, returned in Italy for ever. So only MEOLA sisters remained in Zanesville. They married in U.S.A. and there they remained for ever.
About their husbands we know only that Teresa jr. MEOLA married Antonio GARGANO, Luisa MEOLA married a policeman, Angela MEOLA married but she didn't has children.
Vincenzo from Italy wrote always to his sisters Teresa, Luisa, Giulia, Maria, Angela and Nina until 1950, when Vincenzo and his father Angelo MEOLA died and in their town nobody knew how to write English.
Later all the letters and records were lost and so about American relatives we know nothing.
Vincenzo, returned in Italy, married and had 6 children. I am one of 16 grandchildren of Vincenzo and I am looking for notices about the descendants of MEOLA sisters who now probably are all died.
I hope to have been clear, if you have any doubt, contact me. I write you because only a local person can help me. Now I ask you to help me in some way:
1) I need of the e-mail address of some person of Zanesville ready to help me. 2) I need of the e-mail address of possible istitutions to which I can turn. 3) if you can effect personally the researches. 4) if you can give me the e-mail of possible newspapers or video-radio of Zanesville and Columbus. 5) if you can give me any informations thet can help me. 6) if you can diffuse this message for me.
When you give me your help consider I haven't informations over those I send you, and the language and the distance let alone unsuccessful knowledge about places and customs are for me a big difficulty.
I will grateful to you if you can help me in one of these ways. Thanks for your attention. Ciao, Alfonso Toscano via dei Consoli 2 00012 Guidonia (Roma) Italia e-mail nofla@rdn.it nofla@rdn.it (Alfonso Toscano)

Looking for information on Mary FICKLE. Here is her history:
Parents John FICKLE and Rachel ? 1st marriage - James WILSON who died on a steamboat accident 1850 supposedly is buried in Chillicothe, Ross County, Ohio. Child of Mary and James: Joshua WILSON, born August 1850 2nd marriage - John H MADDEN, 1857 in Putnam County, they moved to Iowa. They had Mary E., Emma E., Rachael, Lydia. One of these girls was known as Lizzie or there was a fifth daughter.
The biography of John H. MADDEN written in 1881 in Iowa says Mary's parents John and Rachel FICKLE were from Perry County, Ohio. I can find FICKLE in Perry County but can't seem to hook up with Mary. The LDS library shows a John FICKLE and Rachel ? in Ohio, with three children -- Eli (1831), Mary (1833), Joshua (1835) and John (1837). If this is our Mary, she was only 17 when she had Joshua WILSON and our family bible says there was an older WILSON brother of Joshua's who went off to Civil War and never returned.
Any help someone can give would certainly be greatly appreciated.
Mary Fickle Wilson Madden died October 16, 1898 in Mills County, Iowa. I am a descendent of Joshua WILSON (g.g. grandfather). We have been hitting a brick wall on James WILSON and Mary FICKLE for far too many years.

The HADLOCK family lived in the town of Locke, Cayuga Co. NY in 1810-1830 and some of Peter's siblings moved into Ashtabula co Ohio by 1826 and others came to Crawford Co Pa by 1834. I don't know if Peter met Sarah in NY or in Ohio. Peter and Sarah are in the 1830 Ashtabula Ohio census. If you are researching ALEXANDER's from Massachusetts into central New York or Ashtabula Co. Hello - I am at a brick wall - need information on William C. SERGEANT b. ? 1820 in ? VA and married Emily Creed - Highland Co. OH in 1843. Then children: Lafaette, Margaret, Jasper, John, Amos, May or Mary, Matthew (died in infancy) and another male no name died in infancy. There may be a William Jr. too. I need to find William C. SERGEANT's family so I can go backwards. He may have had a brother named Amos or his father, not sure, they lived in Berryville and by Hillsboro area. They were Methodists I think. Around 1860-1875 they moved to Mt. Ayr, Ringgold Co. Iowa. Thanks so much, Millie Alexander, ishkani@ibm.net

ALBRECHT
I am looking for info on Andrew Albrecht who came from Baden Germany in 1833, settled in Baltimore for a short time and then settled in Tiffin, OH. His wife's name was Catherine (I think). They had a son, Christopher (b.1824, d.1887)who was a Lutheran minister and ultimately settled in Miamisburg, OH. I would love to know more about Andrew Albrecht's ancestors, but the main question is: did Andrew have children other than Christopher?
Christopher married Julia Wagenhals of Lancaster, OH. I believe it was a second marriage for him as family records indicate a first wife referred to only as Miss Conrad.
I believe there is a son from the first marriage (Luther).

Hi Maggie, When you have time, we would really appreciate any information on the CONLEY family living in Richland County 1800 to 1815 Conley or CONNELLY was Irish and his wife was Delilah MCCRALE. Their daughter, Mary was born in Richland Co. on 21 June 1815. Hopefully we can find siblings born there and then first name of her father. Thank you for any help.
They will probably be in the Methodist Church as Mary was baptised there at age 12 in 1827, So that is a place to find some info. If you are able to find some we will be forever thankful. We will be happy to reimburse for copy costs and time.

I suspect he was the son of the royal mayor of New Amsterdam City who'd changed his name from "something" Osborne (back to the 13th century they'd spelled it OSBORN ... I guess his father didn't want to dishonour the family).
If you can answer this I"m grateful, if you would do a bit of research I'd be more thankful!

I guess what I am really looking for is as much information as I can obtain. Any advise you can give will be appreciated. By the way, there are some Zimmerman's in the family chain. Not alot of information on them at this time. Thank you again.

JOHN CARPENTER MURPHEY was my gg-grandfather and I know that he came to CA before 1859 but I don't know if any of his siblings or his parents did. I believe they stayed in Ohio as the only Murpheys (mine) I have found in CA are descendants of John Carpenter. He was born in Columbus, OH so I assume that is where all or most of his siblings were born and where his parents died. If anyone can verify any of this, I sure would appreciate it.

I had read that Ohio was more lenient on marriages than Indiana so more people from Indiana would go to Ohio to get married. Even just a birth or death date for Frank would be helpful. Thank you.

Would any one who has access to early birth (unofficial) and marriage records or early histories in Carroll, Harrison or Jefferson Co's be willing to lookup some RICE's for me?
I am searching for information on John RICE Sr. and his sons Jesse RICE and John RICE Jr. (I have not proven that John and Jesse are brothers, but the following is what I believe.)
John RICE Sr. (age 50-60) is on the 1830 Ohio census in Jefferson Co., Clinton twp. John RICE Jr. (age 15-20)and Jesse RICE (age 20-30) are on the 1830 Ohio census in Harrison Co.
I am interested in birth and marriage information. Jesse was born in PA before the family moved to Ohio so I am also interested in finding out where specifically in PA they came from. They moved to Jefferson Co. from PA between 1798 and 1812. John RICE (Jr. or Sr. ???) of Jefferson Co., purchased land in Carroll Co. in 1830 according to the GLO Land Patent Report. (I believe this land was probably in Harrison Co. in 1830 but became part of Carroll Co. in 1833) The two sons left the area to go to southern Ohio in 1844: John RICE Jr. of Carroll Co. and Jesse RICE of Carroll Co. purchased land on the same day in Scioto Co. Then in 1845, Jesse RICE of Scioto Co. purchased land in Pike Co.
John RICE Sr. was b. between 1770-1780 in Pennsylvania.
Jesse RICE was b. 1798 Pennsylvania. I believe he married three times: 1) Malinda KELLER 2) Nancy Marintha RICKORD (b. abt 1820 Ohio) m. 28 Mar 1844 in Pike Co. 3) Mary ANDERSON (dau of Robert ANDERSON) m. 18 May 1854 in Scioto Co. Children: John RICE b. 1832 Ohio (m. Elizabeth BENNETT) - His mother was Malinda KELLER Sarah Ann RICE b. 1834 Ohio (m. Caleb HITCHCOCK 19 May 1853 Scioto Co.) Rebecca E. RICE b. 1838 Ohio (m. David A. GORDON 22 Aug 1856 Pike Co.) Jesse RICE b. 1843 or 1846 Ohio d. 5 May 1873 Clarissa RICE b. 1848 Ohio (m. Henry T. HENSON 7 Oct 1865) Charles RICE b. 20 Jun 1857 Clay Twp., Scioto Co. - Him mother was Mary ANDERSON I believe that John, Sarah Ann and Rebecca E. were born in Carroll Co.
John RICE Jr. was b. 1812 Ohio. Married Elizabeth ? (b. 1822). [This was likely not his first marriage]. Children: Aaron b. Ohio Samuel b. 1830 Ohio Charles b. 1834 in Carroll Co. (m. Sarah KIRKPATRICK 1856 Scioto Co.) Rebecca b. 1837 Ohio James b. 1840 Ohio John b. 1841 Ohio George R. b. 1843 Ohio All these children were probably born in Carroll Co.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. If anyone has any need of lookups in Canada, I would love to reciprocate!

All the info I really have is from my ggrandfather's death certificate. He was born in Trumbull CO. Ohio in 1833. His name was John TAYLOR. If any one has any kind of info on this line of TAYLOR'S I would appreciate any kind of help. Or where I can find out any info in this county in Ohio.

ANDREW HARPER ALLEN came to the United States with his parents when a baby and lived in Ohio. He came to San Francisco, CA to the Redwood City area about 1850 leaving his wife and daughter, Mary, in Ohio. Mary died as a child and 11 years after Andrew came to CA, his wife joined him. In 1863 they settled in Bridgeport, CA.
In 1886 "Andy" could be seen riding in a fine buggy from the carriage works of his brothers' W. A. ALLEN and CO., Akron, Ohio.
OLIVE CYNTHIA YORK had two sisters, MARY YORK m. ? McCOY and the other sister's name is unknown but she married H. B. PEACOCK; and one brother, STEPHEN VAN RENSSELAER YORK. I do not have Olive's parents names but her mother was a niece of GEN. STEPHEN VAN RENSSELAER.
Any help on this line would be appreciated. I'm especially interested in finding out death dates of SIR GEORGE ALLEN and ELIZABETH HARPER ALLEN, and the name's of OLIVE YORK ALLEN's parents.

Thomas and Cassander/Cassandra CASTEEL PERKINS came to Belmont Co. Ohio about 1805 w/ two of their children (according to the Belmont Co. History) A daughter Elizabeth or Rebecca and a son named Samuel. They had two other sons: John & Francis.
Their son John joined them in Ohio about 1809. Did Francis come to Ohio? John purchased land in Coshocton Co. and "platted" the town of West Carlisle. After John died, a Thomas CASTEEL appeared in the area and was buying and selling land as John had. Any suggestion of the reason why?
John's son, Rev. Thomas PERKINS died in either 1843-4 in Ohio. References to a Diary kept by the Rev. were in his obit. Has anyone have ever seen or heard about this diary or journal? or researching this family.
John PERKINS' wife Priscilla ??, married Samuel ROBERTS in Knox Co. Ohio 1825. They moved to Holmes Co. Oh. where Sam died. She then married a Rev. War Vet, Thomas CARTER.
When did Priscilla die and where is she buried? Thomas is buried (in what appears to be a lone grave) in Chalfant Cemetery, Coshocton Co. Ohio just a little n.w. of Adams Mills.

In the 1850 Census I find her in Columbus, the wife of Michael Engel/Engle. Unfortunately there was more than one woman with that name in Columbus at that time and I got nowhere in my search.
She & her husband are in the 1860 Census but in 1870 only she (age 49) and her children are listed. He is not.
The last information I have on her is a tombstone in St. Joseph Cemetery in Tiffin, Ohio with the inscription Maragaretha Engel
Died Massillon Ohio 5 Sept 1877 age 56 yrs
Her grave is near to her mother's and her sister's But, how did she get there? I have not been able to get any information from the cemetery. Does anyone know anything about burial permits in that time period? Or any suggestions?
Any bit of information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Barbara bab76@Juno.com

Hi All.
My great grandfather, Franklin E. MARTIN b. 1846 NY d. 1908 MN m. Alida (or Elida or Lida or Lydia I've seen all of these spellings on various records) ?. Elida was born in 1860 in OH, her father was born in OH and her mother in PA. I found an ancient photo of a "Grandma Dart" standing with Elida and another woman. I'm thinking that DART may well have been Elida's maiden name.
Does anyone know of a DART family in Ohio?

I am trying to locate the family of WILLIAM ACKER NOBLE who on the 1880 Ohio census is listed as: W. A. Noble, Akron Ward 3. page 060C ( I think this is he) Am hoping that someone can look this census up for me and give me the info on who is living at this house, age, work, where born etc. William A. Noble married Kate Bigelow 24 Oct 1877 in Richland, Ohio, but I read where they were living in Akron, Ohio when they married. She was born abt 1849 in Mansfield, Ohio.
There should be a dau. Anna R. age abt. 10 born in Indiana. In trying to locate information on Anna Ray Noble, I will give information from her obituary. She was a member of the Grace Episcopal church in Mansfield, Ohio. I think she was married in the area. All I know is that she married an ADAMS, had three children George S. Adams, Dorothy Adams Dunphy, and Mrs. Austin Smith. Have no idea of ages or where these children were born, maybe Ohio. She later married a Edward Hilbourne who worked in shoe factories. Maybe they meet in Ohio at a shoe factory. She must of married before 1903 as that is when her first child with Edward Hilbourne was born in Raymond, NH. These folks traveled a lot.
Hopefully someone can help me locate this family. Thank you for any information, Kathie

Hi-
I am new to the list and researching the DERRENBERGERs who came from Alsace/Elsass in the early 1830s to north central OH. This is too early for the set of books Germans to America as a source. Where might I find local archives with information about this wave of German emigrants?
They may have been part of the group who went to Crawford Co circa 1832, since my ancestor Michael Derrenberger purchased land in Bucyrus in 1835. I have found him on 1850 and 1860 census for Holmes Co. I believe he died in 1888 and is buried in Loudonville, Ashland Co.
Michael and wife Catharine had 12 kids that I have found so far and I know the spouses of perhaps half of them. He was born in 1810, she in 1820. Catharine may have married a W.B. Kantzer after Michael died. A George Derrenerger with wife Margaret may be his brother. A Catharine Derrenberger who married a John Ullman may be his sister. Yet another Catharine Derrenberger may be his mother. I have seen an 1848 will listed in an index for an Anthony Derrenberger in Portage Co that I want to obtain.
I am, in short, tracking ALL Derrenbergers in OH in the 1800s so I can figure out who relates to who, and how. There are not very many of them and the spelling can be very phonetic in records! I would love to hear from anyone on this surname and about how to research those who came from Alsace/Elsass in that period. Thanks for any and all advice and assistance!

Looking for information on my Great Grandfather,
JAMES GRAVES. Middle name and/or initial unknown.
He was born on February 02, 1842.
His father was James Graves, who I believe was born in North Carolina.
According to his Illinois Death Certificate, he was born in Raysville, Ohio? But, I cannot find Raysville; I strongly suspect he was actually born in Zanesville (Muskingum County). His wife, Caroline Matilda Fling did live in Perry County, Clayton Township, Ohio, per the 1850 census (page 437).
