Please be so kind as to check your resources for info. on the following:

1) FRANCIS JULIAN DRAKE, b. 1858, IO. Country doc. probably in Jackson Co.,OH. area. Granddaug. says he died 6/1936 but Ohio Hist. Soc. does not have him listed on the death index for that period. I'm in hopes his position as a country doc.(grad. Ohio State Medical School early 1880s) will mean there were obits. or other sources which will give an accurate death date & other career & family info.

2) ETTA ALETHIA (RANDALL)DRAKE, b. 5/13/1867, in Jackson Co. per undated obit., which said she lived all her life in that county. She appears on the 1880 Jackson Co. census with parents were JOHN C. RANDALL & HANNAH M.(BREWSTER).

Francis J. & Etta are believed to have married 8/10/1882 but I don't have access to a marriage index to confirm this. They appear with these children on the 1900 Jackson Co. census: Francis A., Elizabeth E., Georgia H., Mary D., Vida M., Dolly H. Older children were Bernard, Helen, Idella, Stanley, and William.

I've searched high & low but without his parents' names or his death date, I'm unable to take Francis back to the previous generation. Death dates for John Randall and wife Hannah would allow me to take this couple back another generation, too. Any help or advice you could offer would be most appreciated. Thanks....Barb.

Maggie, thank you so much for putting your page up for peoples such as myself. I live in Westerville, Oh and am trying to piece together my fathers side of my tree. He was raised by his sister Beulah and knows very little about his family. My fathers DOB is Sept. 11, 1934. His parents were John Jacob BACHUS and Viola May SMITH Bachus. John Jacob's parents were Albert Bachus and ? EVANS. Viola May Smith Bachus' parents are unknown to me. There is a family rumor that the Smith was one a SCHMIDT or some derivative of. My father was born and raised in Hocking County, Ohio. Logan. His parents are both supposed to be buried in Carbon Hill Cemetery. John Jacob and Viola wed when he was 20 and she was 13. I do not know the names of all the children born of this union, and sad to say, my father does not know all of his sibling's names, either. John Jacob supposedly was from West Virginia, but I have been unable to verify this. I have no idea if Viola May was an Ohioan by birth or relocation. John Jacob was a coal miner, is another tidbit that I've learned. My father attended Logan H.S. and was a member of their football team. He obtained a fake birth certificate and joined the Navy when he was only 17. He retired in 1972 and began working for the U.S. Main Post Office in Columbus Ohio. He was a Chief Petty Officer in the Military and was awarded many medals including a Purple Heart.
Thank you, again
Sincerely,
Patricia Bachus Hargis

I have an ancestor (James WOOSLEY) that lived in Ross County from 1806 to 1814. In researching the records in Ross County, I was able to find the deed where James Woosley sold property (Section 17, Township 9, Range 20, Ross County, Ohio) to George Stanhope in 1815. This section of land is not in the Virginia Military District, but is on the east side of the Sciota River within the area of land that is sectionalized. I have been trying to find the deed where James Woosley bought the land, so that I can find out where James migrated from. I believe that the land under the original grant was purchased by a John Baker. John Baker died in 1811 and willed the property to his two sons (one was of age and the other was not). However, I have not been able to find the deed where James Woosley possibly bought the property from the Bakers. I looked in the Ross County Recorders Office and the Ross County Archives. Can someone give me an idea of where to obtain this information? Thank you.

Sincerely,

Roger K. Terrill

I am looking for the marriage of Daniel Wood(s)worth to Betsy Molden. Their son, Benjamin was born in 1834 and a list in the family Bible indicates other siblings were born in 1828-1838 and may have even been earlier so will you please search for Daniel Woodworth and Betsy Molden marriage between 1819 and 1828. Son Benjamin consistantly says he was born in Ohio but there is no indication of the county. I think it may have been in Clermont, Hamilton or Ashtabula but no real proof. The children's names included George W., Mary, Monteville, Elziphen, and Benjamin. It is also possible that there was an Elias and a Daniel in the family. Thank you for any help you can give me. Hi Everyone!

I'm probably grasping at straws but, i'm up against that darn brick wall here. Does anyone have Parker's and/or Elsworth's in their line?

I'm trying to locate the parents of my ggrandfather, Carl Elsworth Parker who was born in Fayetteville IN on Nov 4, 1880. Carl was in WI in 1907 and moved to IA in 1914. Census records in IA state that his parents were both born somewhere in Ohio. Although I don't have anything in print, I have been told that his father's name was Samual Parker and his mother's maiden name was Elsworth. They had one other child that I am aware of, a daughter who's name I don't know, but she married a man named George S. Spanmuth and lived in WI at the time of Carl's death in 1959.

Does this ring a bell with anyone?

I do know that she was married 4 times. 1st to Charles Moyer who died, (he was my mothers grandpa) then to a John Knotts who was killed by a bull, Then to Frank Rickles,(I have their wedding picture) they were divorced about 1919 or 20 and then to Elmer or Elmor Terry about 1922. I know that Anna and Charlie Moyer had a daughter Ethel who died about 1924 or 1925. She, Ethel, was married to William Eriuce Longcor and had 4 children, LaVerne, Laura, Daisy, and Willian Charles. Any information I can get on this family will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Isn't Marietta in that county?

I'm researching the James and Alice Fish family....who came from Eng in about 1837....Actually I'm searching for a NANCY JANE FISH and in some census I saw that this family had a daughter Nancy who was about the right age. In a correspondance with Jason Ferenczi I learned this:
He is interested in the BEERY family of Fairfield Co.,Ohio, through a sister of your (my Elizabeth)Elizabeth (BEERY)GEIL, Mary (BEERY)STEMEN. Mary married Rev. Henry STEMEN of the Menonite Church and moved to Allen County, Ohio, where both died. Here are some resources which may be of help to you.

The Beery Family of Page County, Iowa by Phylis Fulk and Lisa Brown Miller - gives good history of early Beerys, names, parents of Nicholas BEERY (father of your Elizabeth)as Nicholas BEERY, Sr. and wife Barbara MILLER. This has been supported with information from York Co., PA. (with the exception of the maiden name of MILLER, which Jason was unable to prove). Cemeterys of Rush Creek Township, Fairfield Co., Ohio by Penny Ginnery (1986) - available from the Fairfield County Chapter of Ohio Genealogical Society(P.O. Box 470, Lancaster, Ohio 41310-0570). Lists burials of the following:

BEERY, Nicholas died Feb.16, 1811 aged 72y 11mo. (pg.36). Mt. Zion (HUDDLE)Cemetery.
GEIL, Elizabeth w/o Jacob died April 19, 1856 aged 84y. 11mo. 28d.
GEIL, Jacob died Mar.21, 1844 aged 72y. 11mo. 5d. (Jacob and Elizabeth on page 72 in Beery-Miller Cemetery).
There is also a history of the GEIL family, though he wasn't familiar with it.

Does anyone have access to these books? I would like the library dewey system numbers for them.

Gladys I. WOODS, 79, of 1409 Lynn Drive, Lancaster, Ohio, died Monday, Jan.18, 1993, at Lancaster-Fairfield Hospital.

She was a member of Church on the Rock in Carroll. She formerly was employed as a selector for Anchor Hocking Glass.

She is survived by daughter and son -in-law, Jacqueline and Carl Turben; granddaughter, Sharon (Leornard)Loraditch; grandson, Steven(Kelly)Turben;great-grandchildren, Matthew, Linde and Casey Loraditch and Chad and Colby Turben; sister, Ruth Mills; brother, Harold Blank; sister-in-law, Ione (???)Blank; and several nieces and nephews, all of Lancaster.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Woods; brother, Merle Blank; and sisters, Pauline Bowman and Edith Weldy.

Services will be held 2:30p.m. Friday at Sheridan Funeral Home in Lancaster, with Rev. Ron Mason officiating. Burial will be at Floral Hills Memory Gardens.

Gladys was born May 29, 1913. She passed away just a few days after my mother did. Sadly she was still alive when I visited my mother in Nov. of that year, but no one told me. I loved Gladys very much. I remember her coming over to our house to see my daughter Beth after she was born. She was at my wedding, too. She gave me the cuttest gift, a dish rag and dish towel set made up to look like a baby kimono and bonnet.

Is there anyone out there that has any of these as family?

Here is a report from John Rhodes, who's email address was jrrhodes@tciedu.com, who was trying to find help on his link; I am going though some papers of inforamtion gleened when I was in the Gen_Nat links and I am going to throw what I don't need away. Mabye this will help someone....maybe not.

He said his grandmother wrote a letter to her fiance in Nov. 1897, Josephine NELSON mentioned her cousin Mrs. Hanna OLSEN. He thinks this must have been a cousin on his mother's side of the family. His specific problem was to identify Mrs. Hanna OLSEN of Minneapolis, MN., circia 1897. The following information was given:

Mrs. Hanna Olson was of Swedish descent.
She was probably born between 1865 in Sweden and lived in the Twin Cities, MN. area in 1875.
She was a niece of Maria/Mary DANIELSON Ledholm SWANSON, born in Sweden circia 1845. Married in Sweden to a Samuel LEDHOLM/LIEDHOLM with whom Maria had a daughter, Dorthea LIEDHOLM, born Jan. 1868, in Sweden. Maria DANIELSON LEDHOM next appeared at her Minneapolis, MN. wedding to Nels SWANSON in Nov. 1872. After five children in 7 years, she died Feb. 1880 in St. Paul, MN. and is buried in the Oakland Cemetery there.

As a niece of Maria DANIELSON Ledholm SWANSON, Mrs. Hanna OLSON's maiden name may have been DANIELSON. It is unknown.

The first name of Hanna's husband , ________ is unknown.
She was thought to have lived at 626 Hennepin Ave., Minnesota in Nov. 1897, but no Olson family was located at that address in a search of the 1895-1900 Minneapolis City Directories nor in the 1900 census. If you know anything about this person, I can give you could try writing to this address: 18-10 36th Avenue, Bayside, NY 11361

I have a photo of her and her best friend or sister taken around the turn of the century and it is in excellent condition. If I could find a descendant of this lady I would be willing to mail her that picture. Also, I would love to hear more about Ned, who only lived a few short years with my mother ....then he died. He was a pretty nice man.
On the back of the picture it says:

Velma would have been born about 1892 or 1893; Fern would have been born in 1891 or 1892 either in Ohio or Indiana. If you think you know something about these people, please write me!

My grandmother (my mother's mother) had a sister named Alice SPRINGER who married a man named George BRANAM. I am slightly puzzled about their name. I think it used to be BRANUM. Either that or my mother didn't know how to spell it.

Alice was born May 18, 1886 and her husband, George, Sept.8, 1907. (could be a mistaken date). George was a bricklayer in Lancaster, Ohio.

Their children, Clara is the only one I remember meeting, and my favorite great aunt.

children: Paul Wesley BRANAM, born April 5, 1908
Rosella Irene BRANAM, born Nov.22, 1909
* Clara Elizabeth BRANAM, born Mar.15, 1911
Goldie Pauline BRANAM, born Jan.30, 1913
Robert Oliver BRANAM, born April 15, 1914
Margaret Olive BRANAM, born Feb.7, 1916

I don't think Clara ever married, but I might just be wrong. I found a picture of her holding me when I was about two years old. The picture was taken at my other great aunt's house, Ella [SPRINGER] HUNT. She is standing under the white arbor in the front yard. At least, I think that's where it was. The memory gets fuzzy and the arbor isn't there anymore in front of the log cabin. Anyway, what is puzzling is their last name is spelled Branum on the back of the photo. The second picture is of Eileen BRANUM. I can vaguely remember her. I sure would love to meet one of her children or a sister or brother and maybe they could help me to remember this lady. Aunt Ella married Allen HUNT and they had a daughter named Esther Marie, the only child that I know of. Their house, though it doesn't belong to them, they are deceased now...is still standing out in Revenge, Ohio.

I know that some Bigelow's lived in Ohio back in the early 1800. The person I am following is a Catherine "Kate" BIGELOW. Just recently I found that she was married to a Albert E. ALLEN, and then married William Acker NOBLE in Mansfield, Ohio in 1877. She had a dau. by her first marriage called Anna Ray Allen. All this time I thought her father was William Noble. Since we did not find Anna living with her mother in 1880 census in Akron, Ohio, I think maybe she lived with Bigelow relatives in the Mansfield, Ohio area. Does any one have a Anna Allen mixed with their Bigelow line around 1867(when she was born) and 1877 when her mother remarried. We also have in the family a beautiful carved lamp table that has a "B" carved in the knob of the drawer. Does anyone know if there were Bigelow's who carved furniture in the 1800.

Hi everyone,

I've been researching my gggrandfather Rev. James W. MILLER, who was a baptist minister. Although he was born 1814, up until yesterday I knew nothing about him until he ended up in the 1850 census in Tenn. I found him as the minister of the First Babptist Church in Fredericktown in 1867 and finally when he died in 1904. It seem he was a "circuit rider" for many years.

I received his lengthy obituary yesterday from the Granville Times. It gave me so much information. Although born in Woodville VA in 1814, at age 3, the family moved to Circleville OH. They lived there for a short time (?) and then moved to Northern Fayette County. I know nothing about his parents or siblings. I believe his brother may be buried next to him and I've ordered his obit. also.

Is anyone searching for Miller's in Fayette County?

Can someone tell me about the life of a circuit rider? He owned land while living in Tenn. and I believe he may have also owned land in Granville. I have to research that yet. So although he was never at one church very long, he did seem to have a permanent residence. Very active man, last child was at 59 years old! Lived 'till 90 and preached until 80. May I have such health and energy!

Thanks,

Sandy Norton

Russell is my father, he died in July of 1997. This was before I started looking for ancestors. I believe Ernest died when my father was around 11-14 but I'm really not sure. I do know that Ernest remarried and had children in the second marriage.

Ernest was born in Mr. Cory and his mother's name was Freta. Freta died sometime after 1956 but I don't know any details. My parents married in 1956 and my mother can remember going to her funeral.

Ernest's father died young and Freta remarried a man named LANGE. They had a son Frederick LANGE.

I believe Ernest stayed around the Lima, Ohio area.

Hi Everyone,

My name is Pam Cotton and I'm new to this list. I live in Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire, England.

I have recently discovered that some of my family went to live in East Liverpool. Their surname was BRUNT and arrived there sometime in the 1840's, leaving Stoke on Trent in 1842. Their names were William and Elizabeth Brunt [nee Boon].

Are there any descendants of this family out there still? I have some information about William starting his own pottery manufacturing business in East Liverpool and I would dearly like to discover more.

I do hope someone can help me and I would be really grateful for any information about where East Liverpool is situated and anything else about this town.

I hope to hear from someone and if I can be of any help to anyone with ancestors from the Staffordshire area I would be happy to oblige.

Regards and thanks,

Pam

Maggie,
I am not sure what all you could look up but I will give it a shot.

Greene Co. OH: birth/death/marriage? of Jacob L. GREEN
same on Anna E. CLINE.
I dont have the actual dates but they had a son born 1/3/1917 James Wilbur GREEN.

Adams Co:
1. Noah RIGGS aprox birthdate 1841.I know for sure that his wife Martha Ann WASHBURN was born 4/18/1842 d. 5/12/1914. She was widowed at the time of her death so Noah had already died.
One of their sons John RIGGS b. 1/25/1878 d. 12/19/1962 He married Lillie INLOW( b.7/24/1879 d. 3/19/1956) they were married in 1899.
It is very possible that the other son was George RIGGS born 1879.
Married to Bertha THOMPSON. No other info on these two.
I do know a good bit after John and Lillie's marriage.
As far as I know they lived in Adams Co then to Fayette co..At least John and Lillie both died in Fayette Co but Martha was born in Adams co.Oh I do have information on Martha's family also.
I have some others but I will wait to see if I did this right before sending them...

Hi Maggie,
Your page is neat. Lots of work, there!
I'm looking for info on the Phenix family. My gr gr grandmother was Martha Ella PHENIX b. 1861 in Weston township. Her father, according to the lead I got, was Reuben, mother Anna DIAMOND. They were in the OH 1860 census, but by 1879, Martha and her brother Levi were in Knoxville IA, where she met her future husband, Nathaniel Macomb. Levi and Martha both married Macombs, Levi marrying Martha Macomb. They all eloped to Stone Co. MO, because the Macomb family disowned Nathaniel for marrying a "black" woman. Family lore has it she was Indian, stubborn family rumor has it the Phenix family was Cherokee. (I've always disagreed about the particular tribe.)
If you have any ideas on where I could look for info, I'd appreciate it. I'm in southern MO. :>)Ain't modern technology wonderful?

Thanks,

Dear Maggie,
Some of the following may be of use to you to help someone else. I'm trying to find out anything I can on Orin H. BALLARD ca 1855 (a guess). Emily Varner of the Trumbull county Archives found this data for me. There may be additional information in Hancock county. Orin is one of my brick walls. He also was a type setter (this form the Mahoning county Historical Library). Caroline Harbor, by the way was the niece of a prominent Youngstown resisdent Adm Giles Bates Harbor.
First what I know about Orin H. Ballard
m. Caroline HARBOR
child Emily Eliza Ballard b. 1/9/1878, d. /2/1923
Nothing More

Next, Facts I have gleaned
There were Ballards in Bristol, Trumbull county, Ohio
The following from the History Collections of Bristol Township
by Thomas J. Kachur
1989
pg 101

Ballard, Judge Edwin A., died at is home in fort collins Colorado., at age 72. He practiced law in Ohio and Colorado for 40 Years. He was survived by two sons and a daughter by his first marriage and a wife and daughter, Ada, four years. He was the brother of Lucretia Thompson and Harriet Kibbee of Bristol. (note see following for more of Edwins Lineage, Jim)

Ballard, Oren, m. Margaret Hillman in Gill, Mass. They left Gill, traveling by ox teams, on May 1, 1820, and arrived in Bristol in the middle of June. The farm they settled on was 100 acres located in the north east part of Bristol, later owned by Elwood Davidson. Oren served in the War of 1812. He and his wife lived in Bristol until old age compelled them to go to live in Lima, Ohio, to live with their son Edwin. Oren died at the age of 86 and his wife at the age of 87. The Ballards had twelve children, two of whom died in Gill, The Children: James, the eldest, lived in Ashtabula and was a carpenter and contractor. Later moved to Lapeer, Mich., where he died at the age of 81. Survived by one son and two daughters. Thomas was a practicing physician in Findlay, Ohio, and died at the age of 68. Survived by one son and four daughters. Philip was a practicing physician and lived in Sugar Ridge, Wood County, Ohio. He was a surgeon in the Civil War. Philip died August 16, 1905 at 88 years. He had four sons and three daughters. Alvah lived in Punxatauney, PA, and died at 41. He left a son and two daughters. Horace, a practicing physician, lived and died in Findlay, Ohio at the age of 40. Survived by a son and four daughters. Judge Ewin served in the Civil War. Had two sons and two daughters. Lucretia Thompson, Norht Bristol, no children, Caroline Ulrich of Bristol died at 43, two sons and one daughter.

Hillman, Shubal, died ca 1824 in Bristol. Lydia Hillman was his wife. Other heirs of his estate were: Chester; Margaret, wife of Orin Ballard; Lucinda, wife of Alexander Knapp; Wass Hillaman; John Hillman; Amanda Hillman; Susan Hillman; William Hillman; Franklin Hillman; Marcy Hillman; Abifail Hillman; Russel Bigelow; and William Bigelow. 1870 Census
Ballard, Oren H. 14 m. PA farm laborer, 1/w Newell Maltby

From Trumbull county Probate Court, October 8, 1869
Oren H. Ballard Minor aged 14 years makes choice in open Court of Henry W. Hillman as his guardian. etc.

From Trumbull county Probate Court, February 1, 1873
Henry W. Hillman requests release of being guardian of Oren H. Ballard as he moved to live wife an uncle in Hancock county. etc.

Supposition yet to be proved.
This Oren H. Ballard is of an age to have been my ggrandfather and Carolines husband. H. could have been for Hillman. The relationship to the Hillmans through Margaret.

Alvah could have been his father Oren was listed as born in PA and Alvah died in PA young which would fit with Orin being an Orphan.

If anyone can add any pieces to the puzzle, I would appreciate it. In any event, I hope the data above can help someone else in their research.

I believe they had infants that did not survive so the marriage may have occurred a couple years earlier than that.

I can't find a record of them anywhere..........

Thanx so much

She died Feb 11, 1923 in Kenmore, Summit Co., Ohio and is buried in Lakewood Cemetery. Her husband was John Bowdle. I'm trying to determine his birth & death date by finding a death certificate. Died in 1931? Is there a way to get information from Lakewood Cemetery? Not getting any response from them to see if he is buried next to her. Supposedly he died in same area of Ohio. Can you help?

I am looking for my g-grandfather. Albert James CROMER- He was supposely b.in Iowa c.1879 -got married in Ft.Wayne Indiana to Clara Fowler of VanWert Co. Ohio. They had four children all of Ft.Wayne Indiana all in the early 1900's and then moved to Erhen,Florida where Clara died in 1913. The children were all of young ages the eldest being 10 James, 9 Twins Goldie and Ralph, and 7 Marguarite. They were split up and raised by family and friends. It was about 20 years before they found each other again.

Apparently - uncomfirmed - Goldie was raised by Clara's Sister LuLu Fowler (Sherman ) i know they were in Cuyahoga co, Cleveland 1920,Marguarite was raised by some close friends on a farm unknown where, James showed up on the census with LuLu in Cleveland but Ralph never showed up-story with him is that he went to live with an uncle - Fowler or Cromer ??

I found an obiturary for Clara Belle Fowler Cromer in the VanWert Newspaper that stated that Albert Cromer was of Lima, Allen Co. Ohio but have been unable to find anything in Lima . I can't figure out what could have happened to him. My father - son of Goldie didn't know and no has been able to find him.

Clara's father John D.Fowler married Mary Elizabeth Fox in VanWert-and Mary's father Otho Fox b1824 d1910 seemed to be in this area all his life. Mary's Mother Susan Rittner Fox came from fairfield co.- I've tried looking in all these counties to see if maybe he was ill he would have wanted to be with family but nothing. I'm lost as where I should look now. He was a young man - I checked the WW1 lists for Ohio . Does anyone have any clues.-anything would be appreciated. Lily

Hello list, I am trying to trace:

PAMELA ADELL DAVIES (maiden name) born 9th August 1946, AKRON, OHIO, - grandaughter of ISAAC DAVIES.

ISAAC came from Glamorgan - probably from PORTH or NANT GARW areas. He emigrated to USA around 1878 with JOHN and ANN WILLIAMS. John and Ann settled in Tennessee before returning to Wales about 18 years later. Isaac however went on to OHIO. I don,t know whether he took a wife with him to America or married out there, however he did have at least one son ISAAC, who lived in AKRON. OHIO.

Isaac Jnr visited relatives in Wales around 1946-1950. My mother and father took him up the valleys to see where his ancestors came from, and in particular the looked for the home of Mrs MARY WILLIAMS, CHAPEL RD, NANT GARW. Mary was I think Isaac's grandmother.

Can any of you help me find Isaac Jnr, Pamela, or any other relatives, or if anyone can tell me what records are available on the net for me to try to trace them I would be most grateful.

Thanks in anticipation Pamela CampbellRon.Chris.Cruickshank wrote:

Greetings Fellow Ohio-philes!

I'm still looking for information on my NICHOLAS ancestors.
William NICHOLAS and son Abraham came to the Dayton area in the early 1800's.
According to Abraham's death certificate, he was born in Pennsylvania. He married Mary Westfall from Darke County in 1827. Their children were
Absalom W. Nicholas (8-16-1828)
Elender Nicholas (12-20-1830)
Abraham C. Nicholas (5-13-37)
Mary Nicholas (5-13-37)
Joseph W. Nicholas (3-19-40)
Elizabeth Nicholas (12-9-42) (married David WEST)
Sarah Jane Nicholas (6-27-48)

He then married Barbara (don't know what happened to Mary)
son
George Washington Nicholas (11-19-55)

They lived in Jefferson Township, Montg, Cty., and I was able to find them on the early maps of the area.

I have a copy of a letter written by a very elderly family member in 1954 which said that in Williamsburg, VA, in the House of Burgess is a history of the Nicholas family "on paper so worn that it is under glass. No one can handle it. Also - in the State Library at Richmond, Va. is the history of the family that you can read." Does anyone have any idea on how I could check any of this out? I did look in a couple of books that mentioned a Nicholas who was in the House of Burgess.

I've been out of Ohio since 1979 and also miss the fall the most of all. I get all teary just seeing pictures of changing leaves. However, I might get to at least see a little fall as I am going to my daughter's graduation from Army boot camp in Fort Jackson, SC, the end of Oct. I sure hope there are at least a few colored leaves to see there. BTW, are there any of you out there who could give me some advice on things to see for a day or so in Columbia? I will then drive her to AIT at Fort Gordon, GA. (Augusta) Again, any hints as to how I could spent the day and a half from the time I drop her off and when I fly back here? Too bad she didn't go Air Force and get stationed at Wright Patt. Then I'd probably move in with her!

I love reading all the Ohio information, and I am amazed at how often the surnames that I see are ones from children that I grew up with.

Keep up with the Ohio memories. Mine is Leo, the lion "that was never, never real" in front of Steele High School, then moved to the Dayton Art Institute.

Best wishes and good health to all. Having a friend who went to bed in perfectly good health, and then never woke up, has made me remind myself that every day is a gift. I now "think of Jack" when I start to put of until tomorrow what I should do today.

She married Samuel H Sneary in Putnam County on 6/4/1893 and she died October 30, 1941 in Putnam County. She is buried at the Clevenger Cemetary. She had one brother and two sisters, brother George E, Sisters Elizabeth and Louisa. I don't believe they were born in Ohio but not sure. She was to have been raised by a family named 'De Grife' but don't know where.

Hi,
I have two YOUNG lines that I am looking for both are from Maryland to Harrison Co W. Va by 1815 & they may be inter-related. Some family members travelled together into Ohio mid 1820's and then on to Wisconsin in the 1860's.

1) John YOUNG Sr had Elizabeth b. abt 1782 Maryland md 1802 Harr. Co. W Va to Edward WALBURN s/oJohn and Mary (MCCOLLEY) WALBURN. John YOUNG gave Elizabeth a dowry. He also had a son John YOUNG Jr b. abt 1788 md in Harr. Co. W Va in 1808 to Susannah HEADLEE d/o Samuel HEADLEE

2) Ann YOUNG b. abt 1793 Maryland md in Harr. Co. W Va. to Jacob MARK in 1814. She may be related to the following YOUNG'S who got married in Harr. Co W Va abt the same time as some of them also went to Meigs Co. Ohio.

Both Edward and Elizabeth (YOUNG) WALBURN and Jacob and Ann (YOUNG) MARK moved to Meigs Co Ohio in the 1820's where the WALBURN'S son married the MARK'S daughter.

YOUNGS who may be part of Ann's family are:
Mary married Anderson DAVIS moved to Meigs.
Susannah married Joseph DAVISSON.....Ann had a daughter Susannah Lucretia married John GREGORY moved to Meigs.
William D married Matilda DAVIS
Simon married Nancy ROMINE....their son died in Meigs...Nancy the d/o Joseph and Catherine (DAVIS) ROMINE

Also in Meigs County, Ohio was Hugh YOUNG born in Maryland abt 1810. I would like to know more about these YOUNGS as Ann (YOUNG) MARK and several of her children, along with some of the WALBURN family left Ohio and went to Wisconsin. Hugh and Mary Ann YOUNG also went to Wisconsin.

Ann & Jacob MARK lived for awhile in Jackson Co Ohio, one of their children was married in Scioto Co. Ohio.

Tobias (d. 1867)
Christina (d. 1852, md. John Hanes)
Lydia (d. 1860, md. Thomas Ray)

Additionally, their child Susannah reportedly md. Christian Stern in Carroll County, but died in a different state.

She is buried in Wooster Cemetery, Wooster OH. Is there someone willing to lookup up an obituary for me, or could tell me how to write for one?

Is there a Wooster Cemetery book? Would be very interested if there are any other STONE, ROBERTS, or LILLY buried here. We were estranged from this side of my paternal line and I am trying to find why she was in this particular area. No other known family members were here.

Also, a Mrs. Robert Spencer was the informant on her death certificate. Her address in 1973 was R.D. #1 Wooster, OH. I have no idea who this person could be.

Date posted: Monday, October 19, 1998

Dear Maggie,
I hav'nt had any luck with my HARDS or MERCERS in Ohio, so I'll change my focus to the ROBINSONS : John ROBINSON was born in London in 1802, and as a young man was appointed "gilder and carver" to the crown, making many molds for the decorative ornamentation in Windsor Palace. He came to America, and settled in Ohio in March,1834. At that time he purchased a farm from William Sullivant. It was on the West bank of the Scioto River, 17 miles north of Colombus, which was then just a village. He carved the models for two large lions that were placed at the Ohio State Capititol, and carved much ornamentation for the same building as well as other public buildings. He also did carving in many of the fine homes in Colombus. For some time he painted portraits, and in about 1843 he was comissioned to make an analysis of crytogamia (non-flowering plants) of the United States, making drawings and descriptions of their place and habits of growth. He was also chosen to be a member of that scientific organization. Curiously, his neighbors thought "the old Britisher" had buried treasure, as they spied him studying the delicate mosses. However several nighttime excavations proved fruitless.
The children of John and Elizabeth ROBINSON, were William Hayes, Alfred John, Ruben William, Arthur Samuel, Mary Charlette Tuscaloosa and Guido. In 1853 the family relocated to another farm on Little Mill Creek, where he carved and painted the remainder of his life.
Questions:
* In what county were these farms? It could have been Delaware County, if it was a county at that time.
** Can anyone suggest how to locate John's drawings, portraits and carvings? We would be thrilled to have even a copy or photograph of any of these, or would be interested in purchasing them as well. I am trying to compile a photo albumn of his works.
* What could the scientific organization have been?
* Do the lions still exist at the capitol? And could the capitol at that time have been in Franklinton? If so, does the original capitol building still exist?
* Does anyone know anything about this family?

I apologizse for the length. In order to get answers to these questions I didn't know where to shorten it. If anyone has any information, our family would be ever so grateful to hear from you.
Patty

Dr. LP was a graduate of Starling medical school in Columbus in 1898. The same year he married a Grace MORRIS from Ohio City. Any information that someone can provide me with will be greatly appreciated. I am a direct descendant from one of Dr. LP's uncles and writing a family history.

Maggie this is in response to your free lookup feature. I'm looking for the birth record of my Grandfather Robert W. His mother's name was Bessie O. HOFFMAN, we do not have a name for his father. I've tried to send for a copy from the State but got no response. This is what I know. Robert W. (FOOTE was the last name he went by, but we don't believe it to be of his birth father) was born to Bessie O. Hoffman in Cincinnati, Ohio on September 20th 1911. Any help you could provide would be of great help.
Thank you for your time

I visited the Courthouse in Clinton County a few days ago to search their probate records. I was looking for a marriage record for Ann HERBERT married to James BROWN of Clinton County. I found only one Herbert (George).

Ann placed a notice in the Boston Pilot in 1856 stating that she was searching for her brothers who emigrated with her from Ireland about 12 years prior to that. One of those brothers could be my great grandfather. In her notice she states that she is married to Jas Brown of Clinton County, Ohio near New Vienna.

I am following this lead because I have been unable to find anything on my Great Grandfather Edward Herbert prior to 1865. He served for a few months during the Civil War and I have copies of his service record. Other than that I cannot find anything regarding when he arrived from Ireland or where he stayed prior to settling in Cuyahoga County. I thought perhaps the Clinton County item might be a possibility.

Edward married Hanora Halloran in 1854 according to her application for a widow's pension in 1889. However, I cannot find a marriage record in Cuyahoga County for them.

The probate clerk in Clinton County said that Ann and James could have been married in another county and moved to Clinton. She suggested I write to a few other counties asking for information.

I thought this Clinton County thing might be a possibility because I located a Hanora Halloran in the Hamilton County Census records for 1850. If this is the same Hanora Halloran as my Great Greatmother, perhaps she met Edward Herbert somewhere down there and married there and then moved to Cuyahoga County. I realize that is probably stretching the imagination quite a bit, but I am opting for any lead at all.

Sorry this is so long, but this is my first visit to this sight and I didn't know quite what to say.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks

Sue

'Any advice on the best method??? I would be very grateful for an 1870 Athens County Census lookup for Thomas J. MERCER, Sr., married to Eliza Frye. He was born in Va., and would have been 70 years old at the time. I don't know if he lived in a town, but suspect he was a rural resident. I've been trying to peace his puzzle together for several years, trying to find when and where he died and who for certain his parents were.
Much thanks to anyone who can help.

David H. Hancock was suspose to work for the Erie Canal as supertendent for many years. I do not have any more information on them. My great grandmother was Mary Jane Hancock and she married a Daniel A. Mohn in Ohio. Had a daughter in Huntington, Ind. in 1887, named Ella Mae Mohn, who was my grandmother. I am looking for information on the George and Mary Cook family from Delphos Ohio, late 1800's early 1900's. Emma Cook was a daughter who died in 1908. We have reason to believe she was the unwed mother of my husbands father, Arthur Leo Busch, dob 10/09/1888 and assume believe Arthurs father was Charles or possibly Henry Busch. Emma lived in Indianapolis for about 15 years prior to her death. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Audrey

Hello,
I am very new at this. Became very interested in finding my husband's family heritage. Especially since our doughter seems to be the only linkage to carring the name and blood line on. In particular, What we know is that James Herbert JACOBS was from Ohio. (we believe from Canton,OH) We heard that there was a Frank Jacobs whom is believed to have been either James herbert Jacobs brother or father. It is believed that Frederich w. ECKERSBERG and Grace E. Eckersberg were James Jacobs maternal grandparents. We believe that a Harold E. MEMMER is also somehow related. We do know that the family resided in Ohio. James Jacobs for unknown reasons moved to Baltimore, Maryland where he married a Dolores E. SCHMIDT. I know that this is practically nothing to go on. Do you know of anyother inexpensive ways to find any further infromation? Can you help?
I greatly appreciate any help and assistance in this search.
Thank you,

I am also trying to find someone to look up a burial at Calvary Cemetary in Clark County for a Thomas Donnelly and Katherine (Kate) Hanahan Donnelly. My father in law was the caretaker at St. Bernard's Catholic Cemetary for 21 years until June 9, 1976 at that time we left Clark County and moved to Stark County. Unfortunately due to my husbands disability I am unable to go back and search the cemetary records for relatives. Most of them are at : Calvary, Rosehill, Ferncliff, St. Bernard's, or the one on Route 40 which I cannot remember the name of but it is just past Donnelsville, OH. We have McCampbell's buried there I know for sure but need lots more information to find them.

Thanks for any help anyone can give. And I hope my websites help someone out there.

Hello Ohio Listers!

I have been researching my paternal lineage and I just found out that my ggrandfather's family came from Ohio. No, I don't have any idea ~~where~~, but he was possibly born in Culpeper Co, Virginia, or came there as a young child from Ohio. Here is what I have and if anyone has any info on him or these BOWENs, I would greatly appreciate it.

James William BOWEN, b 28 May 1858, d 29/30 Apr 1918; mrd 10 Jun 1891 to Savilla Nethers, b 27 Dec 1872, d 24 Oct 1935; their children:
-Arnold BOWEN;
-Beaulah Mae & Julia May...twins, b 21 May 1893, died 23 May 1893;
-Lucien Walker BOWEN, Sr. (my grandfather), b abt 1896, d?;
-Nethers BOWEN, b. 05 May 1899, d?;
-Edward Everh(e)art BOWEN, b. 06 Jul 1902;

-Kermit BOWEN, b? ;
-Ray Horner BOWEN, b 01 Mar 1901;
-Roger BOWEN, b?;
-Warren BOWEN, b?

My father is Lucien Walker BOWEN, Jr, b 30 Jun 1919, d 22 Jul 1989

I find the names interesting, somewhat unusual...I suspect that the middle nmaes may represent maternal surnames (or at least I hope they do....that would be a lead), so I am also on the lookout for WALKER, HORNER, EVERHEART, EVERHART....

I have additional information on the Nethers line back from Savilla to the Germanna Colonies of Va...but nothing on my Bowen side. If this rings a bell with anyone, please contact me!!!

Who is Samuel G. BALDWIN??

He is NOT mentioned in the 1878 will of John BRASIE of Lorain County, OH, but is listed on a 'Next of Kin' distribution form for probate as as 'son' (with 'Brasie' inserted between his first and last name) in 1891. He had not been on previous census records and the recorded children bear the BRASIE/BRAZEE name.

His name comes after the birth order of his natural children, but before the one grandchild that is listed to inherit.

Possible step-son of:
John BRASIE (1816 NY -1891 OH)
m (1) Almira LAMBERT (1823-1862) 1842 in Elyria, Lorain Co., Ohio;
m (2) Julia BRENT 1864 Lorain Co., Ohio.
Is Julia BRENT his mother? He is mentioned as living on St. Clair in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, in 1876 and 1891.

Any information or any thoughts on this?

Hopefully, someone will be able to help me with this question.

Does anyone know anything about the descendants of William and Deliah (Snook) Brish?

William and Deliah (second wife-first died) married in Seneca Co. in 1829. They both came from Frederick Co., MD shortly before getting married in OH. William was the brother of General Henry Colgate Brish, who fought the Seneca Indians and drove them west of the Mississippi.

Henry Colgate had no children. William and Deliah had nine children supposedly. Supposedly because they were supposed to have had four boys and five girls. We can only find the names of three boys and five girls: Mrs. Elizabeth JOHNSON, Charles D. BRISH, (Henry) Colgate BRISH, Mrs. Cornelia COX, Mrs. Anna MccDONALD, Mrs. Harriet LAMBRIGHT (mine), Mrs. Rachel MATSON, and John BRISH. It appears that John Brish died in the Civil War at Pickett's Mills, per a newpaper article, letter from Capt. patterson to Mrs. Wm. Brish.

So that leaves Charles D. and Colgate to carry on the Brish surname. Does anyone know anything about these men or if there was another brother? Of course, if someone knows something about the women, we would appreciate any information.

According to our 92 year old new-found MD Brish cousin, the name Brish was once Breisch. He strongly believes that the Breisch was once Preusch, when the family lived in PA. The Breisches moved from PA to MD in the late 1700s and then to Seneca Co. in the 1820s.

In the 1850 census, Carroll Co., Lee twp., a Mariah WHITEFORD (age 7) born OH, is living with John RICE (age 76) and Rebecca (age 77), both born MD. Also in the household is a Thomas WHITE (age 40) born OH.

In the will of John RICE Sr. (probated 1858), now living in Brown twp, Carroll Co., he leaves a share of his estate to Rebecca WHITEFORD and Mariah WHITEFORD (would be about age 15). I do not know how these two women are related to John RICE.

On the 1830 census, there is a David WHITEFORD in Jefferson Co., Springfield Twp.

Is anyone working on the WHITEFORD family in this area?

Cindy

Hallo from England,

I am looking for anything on James VAUGHN or VAUGHAN, but particularly on his emigration or naturalisation.

James emigrated to the USA from South Wales in 1897. He ended up in New Castle, Penn. but is not to be found there before 1920.

His son David lived in Niles at least from 1910, and son Ivor lived in Ravenna at least from 1921.

James was a tin plate worker, and born around 1855.
