Need help from a WARFEL member who has a copy of "Warfel and Allied Families."

I just started helping another WARFEL who found 10 handwritten pages of notes in a family bible. The notes were in the 1920s and 1930s in an attempt to piece together a family. The notes are not organized in any particular order, or at least, I have not discovered it as of yet. Here is one of the pages:

Nancy (WARFEL) WESTON:

was my Grandfather Sister. (older one) -

her children all from penn.

Coates
Jessie
Jim
Adline
Livene (?)
Tom

1866

Let me know if you find this is in the Book?

These notes mostly refer to Topeka, Kansas, St Louis, Idaho, and Los Angles.

thanks,

Gary, from page 351.

Wow, if I was looking for a quiet list, this wasn't the one! I just joined this afternoon and was amazed to come home to many messages. I was actually looking for a list for Tuscarawas County but as there isn't one, I thought I would give this one a try. I am searching from afar and am wondering if any of you have some suggestions for me.

So far, I have found out that my GGGGrandfather Joseph EVERLY was married to Susan EAKINS in June of 1832. Now, my GGGrandfather, Joseph's son David was born in March of 1832. I have to think the best of Susan that she was perhaps Joseph's second wife and David's mother may have died during his birth or something. Maybe Susan was David's mother, but that sort of thing didn't happen a lot back then did it?? :) Also I have found Susan and David and another son Frederick on the census over in Illinois in 1950 and Susan is 52 years old then, that would make her 24 when she married. I have David's Civil War records from the National Archives (a well worth it expenditure if anyone is considering ordering them - Pension Record was 135+ pages long and included a photograph). David remembered his father's name but at that point, could not remember his mother's name. How can I find out if Joseph was married more than once? Does anyone have marriage books that they could look up in Tuscarawas County to see if he was? David thought he was born in Hancock County, OH (his memory was very poor though as he had taken a bullet in his head - and lived! during a battle in Atlanta during the CW). Where can I go from here? During David's attempt to get the Pension Office to give him a bit more money, he had tried to get information about his birth but reported that there was no record available as the family bible could not be found.

I will gladly help anyone who might need information from British Columbia - in exchange for some ideas on how to proceed with my problem, of course!!

Thanks in advance,
Bev Allen

To Maggie and all-thanks for this site. I have been lurking for awhile because all Lists have different protocols and just trying to get used to this one. It's a bit different from the ones I am used to. I am researching Columbiana Co in and around Salem Twp for German ancestors who came from Penn and Maryland b eginning 1805-1810 close to beginning of Statehood.

BRICKER**BRINKER**KIRCH/KARRICK/KERICH/CARRICK**BROUGH**SCHE D/SHADE and more.

Particularly Samuel Karrick married to Maria Cooper. Samuel in 1840 census but by 1850 he is gone. No death record found in Columbiana Co. Have checked cemetery records, wills, church records. Have also enlisted help of Carol Willsey Bell whom I understand is an authority on Columbiana Co--Nope, she can't find him either. I'm wondering if anyone on list is descended from Samuel. I'm beginning to think that Native Americans did him in and his bones are still somewhere in Ohio or that there's a very large sink hole in the middle of Eastern Ohio. Can anyone give me a clue???

Thanks in advance

Hi all!
I need to find a birth record for my Ggrandfather and a death record for his Grandmother, both of which took place in Ohio. I need some help as to how to go about this, the dates are so far back they aren't in the typical files. Am looking for advice.

GGrandfather was born in Van Wert Co., in 1840. His grandmother, as yet unknown, was on the census for Jefferson Twnshp, Ross Co. in 1820, but by 1827, her husband (now in his 40-50's) married again in Mercer Cty. She must have died/divorced? somewhere in between these dates and locations. The only clue would be a death/divorce of a female with the correct last name of GODARD/GODDARD.

All this is in order to track down where they came from. That's the ultimate query for me.

Thank you all, and all efforts are welcomed.

I am sorry if this query is old to you, but since I am new to the list, I am sending it again.

I am looking for information on my family. Believed to have originally been Hind. Variations of the name include HINDS [My current} HIND / HINES / HYNES / HYND, etc.

My direct ancestory was in Beaver County, PA after the Revolution, but may have been descendent from Chester, PA, -- Albemarle, Augusta Counties in VA. Family members migrated through VA, PA, KY, TN, AL, AR, IN. Early names were James, William, Thomas, John, Samuel.

At Beaver County, PA (Sewickley and N. Sewickley) John Hind - Revolutionary War [fifer] John, jr., George, Peter, and Jacob. Also Sampson and others.

Related families included PIERSOL and OLDHAM.

Descendents were known to have moved to Jennings (and surrounding) Counties, IN in the 1830/40 time frame. Included John, jr., Sampson (at least one with that name.), My great great grandfather Jason (also a John) who moved with his family into North Western Indiana. His wife Catherine (Oldham) and some Children are burried in Hemphill Cemetery. Jason died in Remington, IN. My great grandfather and some of his brothers (Includes Roark and George) served in the Civil war from that area.

I would like to know what happened to the family and where descendents now live. Also, where was Revolutionary War, John Hind burried.

I am Clif Hinds. Respond to me at my email -

Seeking census or any other listing of Ida Lillian Renfro Worman Hansard (b ca 1858 in KY)who moved from Pulaski County, Ky (23 August, 1891) to Cincinnati area, probably Hamilton County after this date when they were m, which was a second marriage for both of them. Ida was m to Henry F. Worman (aka Warman) before. John's first m was to Susan Lewis, also of Pulaski County, KY.

They may be listed on 1900 Census, tax lists, land record, etc. Ida was d/o Mary "Polly" Neal (aka Neil) Refro, my 1st. Cousin, 5X removed, and Lewis Renfro, both from KY. I believe she lived out the remainder of her life in Ohio, and is bu there. She may be listed on an obit, hopefully after 1908 as this was when Ohio Death Certificates were kept by the state I believe. I am asumming her surname would still have been Hansard (aka Hansford in some listings). Her date of death would be most useful for this purpose in ordering a certificate.

Thanks for your assistance, and I would he happy to pay you for any reasonable expenses that you such incur in your search efforts... My search has been long and difficult, and finding information on Ida would be most beneficial in helping to put all pieces of the puzzle together.

Hi Everyone:

With the hope that Santa might help out I am again posting my wish list.

Looking for parents of Arthur Andrews, born 1811 in OHio, county unknown. He married Sarah McFeely (parents unknown) on Oct. 20, 1831 in Butler Co., OH. They had the following children Eliza, John, Sarah, Susan, Lydia, Joel, Henry, Mary, David, Clarissa, Julia and James. Unable to locate Arthur and Sarah on 1840 census, but they were living on Montgomery Co., IN in 1850 and 1860. They were living in Page Co., IA by 1870. Arthur died 1876 and I believe that Sarah moved to Hall Co., NE with son Joel.

Family lore says this family originated in Maryland but I have been unable to prove this. Also I believe there is a connection with the surname of House, either on Arthur's side or Sarah's, not sure which.

Any help or wish granted would be greatly appreciated. I have been looking for Arthur's parents for over 15 years.

Thanks.

Debbie

I have not found him on a census until 1830 where the family was in Mecca Twp. By that time he was married to Elizabeth ? and had a girl Julia and boy Henry. Are there land records or tax records that wouyld pinpoint this family more exactly? Is there a way to find maiden name of Elizabeth born 24 Mar 1793 according to tombstone calculation. They went to Wisconsin before the 1850 census.

Hi Rooters.... I'm new to your list and searching for family members in and around Cleveland, etc. I just this past week found the following family in Cleveland. The son James is my great grandfather..... are there any more relatives out there, or do you recognize a tie to any of these named below? Later I will post others that I believe are family who lived in Cleveland area. this information is from the 1880 census and is from the Soundex. haven't been able to check the film yet.

Ohio Soundex 1880

Lynch, Bridget (L520) Vol. 13, E.D. 27, Sh 18. L. 38
white female 48 years old born Ireland
living in Cuyahoga County
Cleveland at 45 Mulberry
James son 21 NY (b. ab. 1858)
Peter son 19 NY (b. ab. 1860)
Mary dau. 17 NY (b. ab. 1862)
Bridget dau. 13 OH (b. ab. 1867)
Catharine dau. 13 OH (b. ab. 1867)
John son 11 OH (b. ab. 1869
Patrick son 9 OH (b. ab. 1871)

From information from family members' letters, John Lynch worked at the Cleveland Plain Dealer and might have worked up to editor, or some other position with the newspaper. Any information about any of these people would be greatly appreciated.

James Peter Lynch was my great grandfather. He died in Chicago, IL in 1933. Information from family indicates that John traveled from Cleveland to Chicago for the funeral. Other older family members say they remember John Lynch. Now that I know his approximate birth year, I'm hoping to find out when John may have died in the Cleveland area.

Also, from family information, John was married and had a daughter named Geraldine. It is believed that Geraldine married a man named Archdeacon. I have seen many Archdeacons in the area. If related, please let me know.

thanks for any help.....

Maggie, I have hit a brick wall and was almost feeling like giving up my Hunt research. Thank goodness I found your site. Sure hope you can help. I will try to keep this as brief as possible, but do want to give some information. I have been tring to find who my gr-gr-grandfather's parent and siblings were. Here is what I know. My gr-gr-grandfather, Ralph HUNT, was born March 19, 1810 in Ohio. That is all I know about him until he marries Nancy Agnes SMITH on March 22, 1842 in Warren Co. OH. Nancy's family lived in Warren Co., Clear Creek Twp. This family was in Warren Co. until 1866 or 67 when they went to Huntington Co. IN. I have the 1850 & 1860 census. Ralph's son and my gr-grandfather, Edward Shannon Hunt, served in the Civil War from Warren County.

I feel that Ralph's father may have been one of four brothers who came to OH around 1805 from South Carolina. One brother was John Hunt, who was in Warren Co., I tried to make him my Ralph's father. He did have a son named Ralph, but I found this John Hunt and two sons, Ralph and John, buried in the Dodds Cemetery in Warren Co. Oh. My Ralph has a little daughter buried in this cemetery also, which leads me to believe that they were closely related. One of the four brothers was Edward, Samuel and Abraham. It seem that John Hunt was always in Warren Co., but I believe Edward, Abraham and Samuel was in Butler Co. for awhile. Edward may have been in Hamilton Co. later, and Abraham may have been in Darke Co. and Miami Co. later. I just can't seem to make a definate connection. One family story, which may or may not be anything , was that Ralph was from a large family, six boys (maybe some girls). His mother died, his father remarried, the boys scattered. Two were said to have gone to Randolph Co., IN.

Other family names from Warren Co. are: Hunt, Smith, Williams, Ward, Fry and Patterson. I would appreciate any help or advice you could give.

His social security number is 286-12-6820.

He was born 10/14/1924 in Mansfield, Ohio.

I am Susan Pauline Jones Barth, his daughter, born Lucas County 2/7/54.

He may have had a son around the year of 1960. Is there anyway to find this information? This could be the years of 1959 - 1961 or so?

Also, I am interested in his marriages. I believe he had eight marriages among 5 different women. Is there a way to find the dates of marriages and divorces?

I am interested in the divorce records between him and my mother, Martha Jane BAUMBERGER JONES. This was around the year of 1960.

I am looking for his Veterans number. I believe he was in the Army approximately from 1940 - 1942.

Any other information you find would be of interest to me, also.

Thank you.

(There were 2 other GAULTS who settled in Hancock County Ohio...Jacob and Abraham/Abram) They seem to be Moses' brothers. My great grandfather was Daniel and he had in addition to the above names had these siblings...Susanna, Eliza, William, Isaac, and Lydia. My great grandfather Daniel married Josephine Good. They had these Chilren: John Wesley, Mime, and William. There may be more but these are all I can find. John Wesley was my grandfather. He died fairly young in the 1930's. For many years I have searched for the parents of my ancestor Robert BRUCE who was born in Lancaster Co. PA. in 1797. I have determined that his mothers given name was BARBARA, but until about two days ago, I had no idea what her surname was. Two days about while seaching, I found some Marriage, Death, and Batism records of the FAGGS MANOR PRESBYTERIAN Church, Londonderry Twp. Chester Co. PA. The third pastor of that Church was Rev. John Evans Finley from 1781 to 1791. In the Marriage records of 1791 I found a Robert BRUCE marriage to Barbara GAVIL, Bart Twp., 10 Aug 1791.

I don't believe there is a BART twp. in Chester Co. PA., but there is in adjoining Lancaster Co.

I have found 1780 and later Tax records of Bart Twp., Lancaster Co. PA. which indicate that a Widow BRUCE, (and later identified as Barbara BRUCE), had property there.

What I need is someone who has access to the Pennsylvania 1790 and 1800 Census, or Tax Records, to look for a GAVIL family in Lancaster and Chester Counties in those years.

If the GAVIL family is found, it would give me an additional clue to my present thought that maybe Robert BRUCE and Barbara GAVIN are the parents of Robert BRUCE born 1797.

The above is long winded but I wanted to describe as best I could the avenues which may help.

Thank you,
Tom in Huntsville, AL.

He lived in Delphos, Ohio until 1898 when he moved to Defiance, Ohio. He died there in May of 1906 and was buried in Hill Cemetery, Ayersville, Ohio just about 6 miles south of Defiance. Louisa died in Fostoria, Ohio in 1909. There is no death record on Joseph, only his obituary, which does not name his parents. I also have his widow's pension records for Joseph's service in the Civil War. No parents are mentioned here either. He drew a pension due to a contaminated Measles vacine which damaged his left arm and his heart when he joined the army for the civil war. Who were Joseph N. Bennett's parents.

Hi All,
Searching for descendants of Leroy TAYLOR and Lydia KINMON Taylor.
Leroy moved his family to the St.Marys area between 1920/30.
Below is a short history of this Taylor line.
A researcher once told me, "I would not like to be a James Taylor at Judgement Day" and boy, I'd agree!!! However, you'd think that with this many James' running around it would make mine easy to spot!!

A dear family member who passed away just recently once told my mother that a picture she had was of "Old Mr. Taylor, the one who came from Wales"
I have not found this as yet.
My g-grandfather always told my father stories of them being Indian.
I've not found this either.

James B. Taylor Jr. b.1853/54 in VA married Lucy A. britton b.1848. She was born in Monongalia. They were married July 29, 1871 in Doddridge Co. WV. They had five children: Marion Columbus, Stacey F. Walter Lewark, Martin P. and Ada.

I received a copy of James and Lucy's marriage certificate. It read as such:

James B. Overfield age 18 Lucy A. Britton age 23
parents:James B. Taylor parents:John H.W. Britton
Elizabeth A. Overfield Rachel Britton
birthplace:Doddridge VA birth:Monongalia

married July 29, 1871

I contacted Doddridge Co. for birth record of James Jr.:none
1880 Ritchie Co. census:
James B. Taylor age 26 b.VA
Lucy A. age 32 b.VA
Marion C. b.WVA
Stacey F. b.WVA
Walter L. b.WVA
Martin P. b.WVA

1860 Doddridge Co. census: living in the house of Martin Overfield and Julia Ann Nutter was J.B. Taylor age 6. No Elizabeth on this census. Elizabeth A. Overfield b.1828 Harrison Co. VA daughter of Martin Overfield and Julia Ann Nutter.

1870 Doddridge Co. census: J.B.Taylor no long living in the house of Martin Overfield and still no Elizabeth.

By 1880, Martin Overfield and Julia Ann Nutter reside in Ritchie Co. in Berea, and Julia dies that year.

I do not have a death date for Lucy A. Britton.
Doddridge Co. Marriage book: James B. Taylor age 28 married Mary C. Bennington on Dec.17, 1882.
Three children were born to James and Mary: Leroy, William and Orphia (she is unconfirmed).
Family history states that James also married a Molly Stinespring, this is unconfirmed.
I know Lucy, Mary, and Molly to be the correct woman as all three show up on various family documents.

As for James B. Taylor SR.: I can not find anything on him period.
I can not find a marriage of James B. Taylor and Elizabeth A. Overfield.
What happened to these two?
there is a James B. Taylor on the 1870 Ritchie co. census but have been unable to look at it yet to see the household listing.

The family spreads out from there:St.Marys Ohio, Pleasants Co. WV, IN, ILL, and MI.
do have more info. but this is long enough already.
Can ANYONE help?

Dear Sir: I am attempting to trace my 3rd greatgrandfather William LOOKADOO who was born in Virginia, married Elizabeth KIDD, then married again and moved to Meigs Co. and then to Gallia Co. WV by the l880 Census. His son Richard H. LOOKDOO was born June l857 in VA and appeared on the l880 Soundex with Mary E. 33, Clara B. l5, Nora B. l3, Anna L. ll, Franklin s. 7, Isaac C. 4, and an infant 9/l2 in Galliopolis Twp., Gallia Co. His brother Wade was born in l854 and appeared with Mary 46, Dallas l9, Clodius l4, and Enos l0. They continued to live in the county through the l9l0 census and I found many births and deaths in the records. I am attempting to find when William LOOKADOO died in Gallia Co. Perhaps a newspaper record exists or church record. I appreciate contacting relatives or others with additional information. Carolyn Lucado Griffin CLGriffinY@aol.com

Maggie,
I am looking for any information you can provide regarding Ralph HUNT born 1810 in Ohio. I believe the family was in the Miami Valley Counties. He married Nancy Agnes SMITH in 1842 in Warren Co., OH. They had three children, Edward Shannon, Martha E. & Alexander. I have 1850 & 60 Warren Co. census, they are on these census. They left OH in 1866 or67. Martha E. died before she was two years old & was buried in the Dodd's Cemetery between Waynesville & Lebanon. I beleive Ralph may have been the son of one of four Hunt brothers, John, Edward, Samuel & Abraham, who came to OH in 1805 from SC. They were Quaker's and came to the Miami MM Meetings. The John Hunt & two of his son's are buried in the Dodd's Cemetery but he is not my Ralph's father as he had a son named Ralph & this Ralph is one of the son's buried in Dodd's Cem. Is there a centeral location where I could go to do research on all Miami Valley Counties, as my time would be short, I am out of state. Also, do you know of any Miami MM rercords other than the Henshaw Ency.? I don't find much on the Miami MM in this Ency.
I would appriecate any help you could give me. I have found my Hunt's very difficult to research.

I have written to the OHS, Belmont Co & Guernsey Co Vital statistics and they have no information. Does anyone have any ideas? I read your posts daily, & although it does fill up my mailbox, I have learned a lot.

Fredrick GODWARD was born April 25, 1876. His parents were George GODWARD and Catherine EVERHART. His wife was Alta OSBORN or OBORN. He had one child, Dorothy GODWARD, born July 26, 1907. He walked out the door about the time that Dorothy was 4 or 5 years old and nothing has been heard of him since. There was a rumor about 1920 or so but no one alive today know what it was.

To the best of my knowledge this took place around the Canton-Salem area of Ohio.

Alfred and Anna are my Great Great Grandparents.
I have no idea on Anna's Maiden name and as far as I know I can not find any SSN for Alfred. We think that they had immigrated from Sweden. I know my family used to Have Hammar/ Johnson Reunion's every year but they have ceased to happen over the last couple of years.

The other people I would like to know about are:
Frank J MCCARTHY: (Born, 4 Aug 1882, Oak Street, Youngstown, Ohio. Died Either Mid or late 1940's in youngstown)
Elizabeth Margeret GRASINGER: (Born, 7 Nov 1881, Where?? Died July 1975, Youngstown, Ohio) According to my grandmother before she passed away their Parents were already in the states.

Frank was also the owner/ President of a Ornamental Iron Business called which I think was called YS&T or Federal Iron Works Co. Which he worked with in the early 1920's.

Prior to 1920 Frank worked the Erie RR and Yo Iron Sheet and Tube Co.

They had children: baby girl, buried in or near Westbranch, Iowa; Nathan Theodore, b. 16 Sept. 1905 in Wetmore, CO; Frederick/Fredrick J., b. 24 June 1910 in Kersey, IN. I believe his father was Charles J. GRIBBELL, and was born in France, and his mother was Hannah Baker, from near Toledo. Her mother may have been a Decker. I am looking for Charles' birthdate and birth place, and confirmation of his parents' names and hopefully information on their birthplaces or places of residence. Thank you for your help.

Hi Maggie:

I know there is a churchyard/cemetery named Mt. Ephraim Churchyard at Lower Salem, Washington Cnty. Ohio. I have written to the trustees of this churchyard and am told it is rundown and dilapidated, with stones crumbled, dissolved, and stored under the a part of the church.

The church was established by my gr. gr. grandfather (Ephraim Gould) who donated a section of his land to build his church and to make a cemetery at the churchyard. Members of the family such as Noyes, Gould, and Brady are buried there. I have looked so very long for any information about JOHN IRWIN BRADY (great grandfather) Ephraim Gould was the father of John's wife MARY MELISSA GOULD.

I know, of course, many years have elapsed and things don't stay the same, but I am curious to find someone who might have come in touch with some knowledge about it, other than what I already have. material such as pictures, a little history, etc., would be great.

You are so great in finding information in such a very short period of time, I thought my best bet is to e-mail you. I have been searching for anything about John Brady for about five months. NOTHING !!

I thank you for any material you may find and I am more than willing to share what information I might have.

Thank you again,

Evalyn, elgen@fidalgo.net

Hello Friends,
I am searching for information on any GOGGIN Family in Ohio, especially John Goggin born in Ireland in 1844. John was married to Mary O'Day. Several of their sons were Cleveland City fire fighters and their youngest son Frank James Goggin (Jimmy) was a Cleveland City Policeman killed in the line of duty in 1939.

John and Mary are buried in Calvary Cemetery in Cleveland, but I have been unable to find the dates of death. Dates from census records and death certificates vary considerably. Does anyone know if there is a published record of this cemetery?

I am especially interested in dates of birth and death to help me research a genetic medical problem that is in my family.

I would greatly appreciate any information or hearing from anyone that may be related to any Goggin Family. Many Thanks.
Kind Regards,
Karen Goggin

Hi Maggie,
I've been trying to find out where my great-grandmother is buried. I've been told it was in "potter's field" but don't know if this is true. Her name was Evka KOVACSVICH JAKOBLJEVIC and she must've died around 1913-14 in Akron Ohio. My grandmother listed her address on her wedding certificate as 855 Washington St., Akron and this was Jan 24, 1915.

I'm happy to have discovered this site. I have been interested in finding out about my grandmother's parents for many years. Recently my great aunt died (Nov. 8, 1998) and she gave me as much information as she could. But she was put into an orphanage as a toddler after her mother died. I also need to find out where my aunt is buried as her son didn't notify any of us of her death. I've never met him, but my great-aunt assured me that someone would notify us upon her demise. He lives in Europe and she didn't know much about what he does-possibly CIA!

thanks for your help.

Amanda and Clayton divorced sometime after his birth, and Amanda remarried a Mr. Klein, and settled on a farm near Wauseon. Amanda died sometime after 1960.

Please let me know if Amanda shows up in your list of Rhodes family members from northwest Ohio.

Dave Gubanc.
