In other places, such as marriage bond, Mary is listed as Mary E., so it is
possible that the E. was for Elizabeth and that she preferred to be called
that. Also, in 1880 census, Ella L. is Louisa.

The age is right for the Thomas E. to be my great-grandfather, but as of yet I
have no definite proof that he is, even though I have been unable to find any
other Thomas E. Jones in Gates County before his marriage to Laura.

PROOF!!!!! The death certificate for Thomas Edwin Jones lists Edwin Jones as
his father. The death certificate for Edwin Jones has a T. E. Jones as the
informant. He was 80 years, 1 month, and 18 days of age when he died on
February 24, 1915. His father's name was Jessie (Jesse) Jones and Monica
Blanchard. There are a lot of Blanchards in Gates. The birth date I listed,
January 9th, may not be correct - it could be the 6th. CJR 9/12/91
