1388 Scots defeat English at the Battle of Otterburn in the
Borders.
1390 Robert II dies andis succeeded by his son John, who
becomes Robert III. He delegates power to his younger brother, the Earl of
Fife, later Duke of Albany.
1406 James, son of Robert III, is taken prisoner by pirates on
his way from Scotland to France and is taken by ship to London, where Henry IV
of England confines him for 18 years. The news of James's capture brings on
his father's early death.
