From Obituary "The Times - Reporter" Dover, Ohio Aug 31, 1978:
"Lyle W. Stewart, 61, of 6085 Wiclif Rd. N.E. died Wednesday in
Cleveland Clinic after a long illness. He was founder and chairman of the
board of Appalachian Exploration, Inc. near Port Washington.
Born at Burton, W.Va., he had been a North Canton resident the past 15
years after coming from Charleston, W.Va. He graduated from Marietta College
with a bachelor of science degree in mathematics and then took three years of
graduate study in geological engineering from the University of Oklahoma at
Norman. He was a former employee of United Carbon, Inc., where he was a staff
geologist 11 years and area manager of exploration for four years. He then was
an independent consultant for oil and gas exploration in the Applachian Basin
for five years until he founded Appalachian Exploration.
He was an Army Air Corps vetern of World War II and a member of
Westbrook Park United Methodist Church, American Legion Post No. 44 and the
Veterans of Foreign Wars, all of Canton, and the American Assn. of Petroleum
Geologists, Ohio Geological Society, Appalachian Geological Society, and Ohio
Oil and gas Assn."

From a book on "Oil & Gas Corporations in Ohio":
"Mr Stewart founded Appalachian Exploration, Inc. as its President in
October of 1968. He became Chairman of the Board in January 1977.
Mr. Stewart graduated from Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio with a
B.S. in mathematics. He furthered his education at Oklahoma University with 3
years of graduate study in Geological Engineering.
Mr. Stewart spent a total of 15 years in the employ of United Carbon
Company. He was Staff Geologist for 11 years, and Area Manager of Exploration
for 4 additional years. Mr. Stewart then became an independent consultant for
oil and gas in the Appalachian Basin for 5 years, leading to the time when he
founded Appalachian Exploration, Inc.
Mr. Stewart is a member of the following professional organizations:
American Association of Petroleum Geologists; Ohio Gelogical Society;
Appalachian Geological Society; Ohio Oil and Gas Association.
Mr. Stewart is married. He and his wife, Helen, are the parents of two
children."
