  Theodore Peter Sarris, 91, of 111 Franklin St., died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at Garden Manor Extended Care Center following a lengthy illness. He was born in Leonidion, Greece, on Aug. 24, 1908, a son of Peter and Thomai (Balabanos) Sarris, and entered the U.S. through Ellis Island in 1920. He went to work for the Revelos Brothers at the original Elite's Restaurant and Ice Cream Shop on Central Avenue. In later years, he managed Elite's stores on Crawford Street, Breiel Boulevard and in Trenton. He married Mary Botos on Feb. 27, 1937. They met when she had worked at the P. Lorillard Co. across the street from Elite's. Mr. Sarris retired in the 1970's. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post 218 where he held high office. For a time, he led the Buckeye Boys and Girls State committees. He was also a member of Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church and the order of AHEPA.
 He is survived by two daughters, Esther Rupp of Columbus, Ohio, and Helen Benziger of Laguna Niguel, Calif.; two sons, Steve Sarris of West Middletown and Jim Sarris of Fairfield; 12 grandchildren; and a sister and three brothers in Greece.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother in Greece; a son, Theodore, in 1943; and his wife, Mary, in 1991.
    ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 27, at Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 2500 Grand Ave., with Father Christos Christakis officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home, where prayers will be conducted at 6 p.m. Sunday.  Burial will be in Woodside Cemetery. American Legion Post 218 Honor Guard will provide military honors at the graveside. vcm

Nick D. notes: I have a problem with this MCD listing; namely, 1107 Central Ave is next door to the Manhattan restaurant (1105 Central).  The 1107 Central address was my father's first store.  Sometime in the very early 30s both 1105 and 1107 were demolished and a new building was build that became a clothing store.  My father and Gus Christy then opened a hat cleaning, shoe shining, dry cleaning store directly across the street from the Liberty restaurant. I remember the new store as early as 1932, so it was probably opened even earlier. Tom Stevens could NOT have been a shoe shiner at 1107 Central Ave in 1937-38.
